The osteogenetic ability of this new complex were detected both in vitro and in vivo. Mouse bone marrow stroma cells(mMSCs) were primarily cultured and seeded on either boneBMP-2 modified HCC(BHCC) or unmodified HCC. All the cell seeded scaffolds were cultured in osteoinductive medium, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and osteocalcin (ocn) gene expression were evaluated at different time, cell morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM) at 5 days culture and in vito calcification was detected at 14 days culture. To further detect its in vivo osteogenetic capability, mMSCs seeded scaffolds were implanted into athymic mice backs subcutaneously, ectopic bone formation was verified by X-ray examination and histomorphological staining. As a result, compared with HCC, cells on BHCC showed markedly increased ALP activity and ocn gene expression thought out the experiments, more proper and functional cell morphology could been seen by SEM, larger area of calcium deposition was revealed by Alizarin red S staining. At eight weeks implantation apparent new bone formation was supported by X-ray images and H&E stained slides. The findings of this study indicate the potential of BHCC as an ideal bone tissue engineering scaffold.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"11 1","pages":"888-892"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82949344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the characteristics of Se-GL-P were identified further, in which the contents of selenocysteine (Se-Cys) and selenomethionine (Se-Met), isoelectric point (pi), and peptide mass fingerprint (PMF) were involved. Moreover, in vitro, the effects on multiplication of T and B lymphocyte cell and killing activity of NK cell were determined by method of MTS. The effect on secretion of TNF-alpha was determined by method of ELISA. Results showed that Se-GL-P was a kind of new selenium-containing protein proved by method of peptide mass fingerprint. 31.275 % of Selenium in total selenium amino acids was in form of Se-Cys, and 68.725% of that was in form of Se- Met. All groups with different doses of Se-GL-P could promote the multiplication of T and B lymphocyte cell of mouse as well as promoting the killing activity of NK cell. However, Se-GL-P had no better effect on TNF-alpha secretion by macrophages in mouse. At the same concentration, the immune regulation activity of Se-GL- P was higher than crude protein from Se-GL (SeGLPr). The immune regulation activity of the former was almost 1.5 times of the latter. Consequently, the results indicated that the Se-GL-P could be studied further, as a kind of bioactivity component with high immune regulation activity.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"156-162"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86733694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The major problems for simulation and assessment are due to the uncertainties inherent in land use change, which cannot be eliminated by relevant land use plan or urban development plan. On this account, this paper develops an integrated simulation and assessment methodology for surface water by application of uncertainty analysis technique on land use change. It consists of three main stages: (1) scenario design for land use structure, (2) simulation of possible land use change in spatial, (3) and assessment of surface water quality associated with land use change. The proposed methodology can provide probability distribution of water quality and composition of pollution contributors, and can help decision makers identify critical factors and potential environmental risks with sufficient considerations on uncertainties of land use change.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"3115-3118"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88884222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But after filtering processing, it will get blurry especially at the boundary of the region. Almost all of the traditional image contrast enhancement approaches can't preserve the gray values and introduce distortion into the image. In this work, we introduce a nonlinear local contrast enhancement method. This method utilizes the Munsell value scale which is based on human visual perception. Munsell value scale partitions the gray scale into ten discrete subintervals. Then inside each subinterval, we consider the mean edge gray value as the point of the segmentation, and construct an appropriate function to mapping. In this way, the contrast of the image has been enhanced and the shades of the gray value are preserved. Experiment proves that it's an effective medical ultrasonic image contrast enhancement approach.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"71 1","pages":"2620-2623"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88964911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Six adult cadaveric specimens were tested. The iliac subtotal resection models were established according to Ennecking' s type I resection. Markers were affixed to the key regions of the pelves. Axial loading from proximal lumbar was applied by MTS load cell in the gradient from ON to 500 N in the double feet standing state. Images in front view were obtained using CCD (charge coupled device). Based on Image J software, displacements of SI (the first sacral vertebrae) of the resected pelves and the intact pelves were calculated respectively using digital marker tracing method with center-of-mass algorithm. Serious instabilities were found in the resected pelves. The rotational movements SI around the normal side femoral head of the resected pelvis were found. The average vertical displacement of SI of the resected pelvis was 6.951plusmn3.384 mm under vertical load of 500 Newton, which were 8.34 times compared with the intact pelvis. The average rotational angle of SI around the normal side femoral head of the resected pelvis was 4.055 plusmn 1.843deg, which were 12.5 times compared with the intact pelvis. Biomechanical model of type I resection of iliac tumor was established. Essential pelvic reconstruction must be introduced because of the serious instability of the pelvis after tumor resection. Digital marker tracing method with center-of-mass algorithm based on Image J software has good perspective for application in biomechanical research, which is a simple method with high precision.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"1836-1839"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89069818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two parameters of ridge heights (HR) and ridge-furrow ratios (RH/W, ratio between HR and furrow width, WF) were defined to determine the configuration of ridge-furrow tillage. The results indicate that relative to conventional field tillage (CT), ridge-furrow tillage increased volumetric soil water content of the plow layer (0-30 cm) and crop yields. And the practice with 25 cm HR (ridge height) and 1/24 RH/W (ratio between HR and furrow width) was the most optimal configuration of ridge-furrow tillage for rainfed agriculture in semiarid region.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"37 1","pages":"3571-3574"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91518949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our synthesized CaCO3 co-precipitation multi-elements discs as the solid matrix- matched standards for calibration, and 42 bCa was selected as the internal standard to compensate the draft of signal. The results also demonstrated our co-precipitation matrix matched calibration method was more appropriate than the commercial NIST610/612 glass standards calibration method. Validation of the matrix- matched LA- ICP-MS technique indicated that the method provides accurate and reproducible (RSD<10%) analysis of trace elements in shells (0.01~3000 mug/g). The detection limits of this method for these elements were obtained in the range of 0.103 to 0.709 mug /g with correlation coefficients (R) better than 0.993. The proposed method was successfully applied to determine the trace elements in the two shells. The high-resolution trace element profiles could be as an environmental proxy and biogeochemical cycling for the area in which the fish or mussel lives.","PeriodicalId":6399,"journal":{"name":"2008 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"4480-4483"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91529873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
