We studied relative densities of the pica using pica holes in roadside habitats in 15 locations along the parallel Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Highway by strip transect method in summer 2009. Five transects (3m*150 m) were censused according to the distance levels from the two roads (D=0 m, 300 m, 600 m, 900 m, 1200 m) in each location. Snow finches which were previously considered as neighbors of the pica living in the same hole were also counted in each transect. Our results showed that no differences in density of pica holes were found among the five distances, but there was a positive relationship between pica holes and snow finches. Our results suggested the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and Highway have no effects on the plateau picas.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89872881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Acid Yellow 99 (AY99), a chromium monoazo dye, used as a model organic compound, could be quantitatively recovered at pH 5 with low recoveries of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) (below 5%). After Cr(VI) being converted to Cr(III)-diphenylcarbazone (Cr-DPC) by 1, 5-diphenylcarbazide, Cr(VI) was quantitatively recovered at pH 1 with the recovery of Cr(III) below 5%. The recoveries of AY99, Cr(III) and Cr(VI) by the newly developed method were 94.7±1.7, 103.0±2.5 and 96.7±3.6%, respectively. In addition, the recoveries of organics (i.e. proteins, amino acids, and organic acids) complexing with chromium ion were all below 5% at pH 1 and had little interference to the selective determination of Cr(VI) concentration. The adsorption capacity and detection limit of XAD-4 for Cr(VI) was 281.6±2.8 μg g-1 and 1.37 μg L-1, respectively.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89967633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surfaces designed should match the existing jaw articulation and preserve the anatomical characteristics of the generic teeth. In addition, to be suitable for clinical applications, the design process must be highly efficient. In this paper, we describe an interactive framework based on Laplacian coordinate translation-invariant to edit the dental surface freely in a user-specific region. The deformation operation can be accomplished with a little user interaction. First, a region of interest(ROI) is fixed, and a handle (composed by some points in ROI) is chosen, then drag the handle freely, the whole ROI is deformed simultaneously. The error engendered by operating the handle is gradually diffused to the whole dental surface, which enables dental surface to be naturally smooth and continuous. The main computation in this framework is to solve a sparse linear system. By employing the most advanced solvers, our framework performs efficiently to guarantee interactive response time. Experimental results show that the presented algorithm is effective. Several examples are given to demonstrate that the deformation operation changes the shape of the models but preserving the geometrically fine details well.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87892610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cell walls and cytoplasm extracts from lactobacillus strains were tested for anti-proliferative activity and induction of apoptosis. The results showed the cell walls showed significant direct anticancer activity. 16S rRNA gene sequences of probiotic strains indicated that M5 and X12 were L. paracasei subp. Paracasei, K11 and K14 were Lactobacillus fermentum, X11 was Lactobacillus casei strain respectively. After exposure to the colon cancer cells for 72 h, strong anti-proliferative activity of cell walls from M5, K11 and K14 was efficiently induced through S-phase accumulation in HT-29 cells. Together, these results suggested the cell walls from M5, K11 and K14 to be good probiotic candidates and had potential application in functional products.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86599878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The seed of greengrocery were cultureed in Hoagland nutrient solution with 50mg·L<sup>-1</sup> NaCl and 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 150mg·L<sup>-1</sup> Lanthanum. Then the treatments cultured in Hoagland nutrient solution with 50mg·L<sup>-1</sup> NaCl, 20mg·L<sup>-1</sup> lanthanum as control. After continued for two weeks, seed germination rate and super oxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase ( POD) activities, malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured. The results showed that salt stress could inhibite seed germination and seedling growth of greengrocery, fresh weight marked reduced, dwarf seedlings. Low concentration LaCl<sub>3</sub>(20~80mg·L<sup>-1</sup>)could promote seed germination and seedling growth of greengrocery, fresh weight marked increased, high seedlings. Salt stress significantly reduced the chlorophyll content of and adding suitable concentration LaCl<sub>3</sub> (20~100mg·L<sup>-1</sup> )could improve of chlorophyll content of the greengrocery seedlings under salt stress and enhance its light transformation ability. But under hoagland nutrient solution with 20mg·L<sup>-1</sup> LaCl<sub>3</sub> processing, chlorophyll content of the greengrocery seedlings had marked reduced(P<;0.05 ). Salt stress can induce the generation of protein. The treaments with proper density LaCl<sub>3</sub> (40~80mg·L<sup>-1</sup>) were able to alleviate the pressure of salt stress, and improve the soluble protein content of greengrocery seedling. High concentration LaCl<sub>3</sub>(100~150mg·L<sup>-1</sup>) under salt stress marked inhibited the the soluble. protein produce of greengrocery seedling. Salt stress could stimulate greengrocery seedlings induction their antioxidant enzymes protection system, make antioxidant enzymes of greengrocery seedling increase, MDA content reduced, Suitable concentration LaCl<sub>3</sub>(40-80mg·L<sup>-1</sup>) under salt stress can promote antioxidant enzymes relieve the damage of salt stress on seedling, then MDA content reduced. but high levels of LaCl<sub>3</sub> (100~150mg·L<sup>-1</sup>)is likely to produce poisonous effect on cells leaded to antioxidant enzymes activity abate, MDA content increased. In brief, salt stress(50mg·L<sup>-1</sup>) could inhibited seed germination and seedling growth of greengrocery, and induction antioxidant enzymes emerge, MDA content increased. The treatment with optimum concentration of LaCl<sub>3</sub> could significantly increase antioxidant enzyme activities of greengrocery seedlings, enhance its scavenging reactive oxygen species, reduce lipid per oxidation under salt stress, in order to effectively alleviate the salt stress injury and increase their salt tolerance, and promote greengrocery seedling growth, The optium concentration was 40~80mg·L<sup>-1</sup>.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86390840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And it encounters an even worse situation because of its brackish water which affects the utilization of the water. The feasibility of desalination of the brackish water is analyzed and then a new harnessing strategy is proposed, based on a longtime monitoring of the water quality of the river as well as a reference to previous treatment schemes. Firstly, the brackish water in non-flood period is supposed to be intercepted by the regulation and storage engineering, second, the brackish water will be desalted, and last, the concentrated water will be disposed in an effective, environment-friendly method. Factors of resources, technology, economy and safety have been taken into account in the new strategy. In this way, the brackish water of upstream could be treated, and the middle and lower reach could be used more efficiently. Analysis of the potential of the new harnessing strategy promises an ultimate solution to the brackish water problem of Malian river, and consequently a good utilization rate of the river basin.","PeriodicalId":6374,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79984529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
