As commercialized EEG sensors can be used commonly, the services that could be provided using EEG and interactions that can be achieved by EEG are needed to be studied. In this paper, we show the feasibility of integrating EEG based services and interactions into consumer electronics using commercialized EEG sensors. We use support vector machine (SVM) classifiers to classify the user's status using EEG data gathered from objects of interest and noise. The results show that EEG gathered from commercialized EEG sensors can be used to classify the user's status.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"21 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90030244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm boosts the visibility of darker regions by attenuating the dynamic range of the low frequency plane and simultaneously enhances the image details. From a camera's image, we select left and right ones with an adaptive threshold based on an amount of light entering the camera. As statistical analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, multiple regression and principal component analysis were performed to estimate emotional state. Our results indicate that near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), which represents one aspect of nervous system activities, is a potentially useful index for evaluating the emotional states of “stressed-relaxed” and “feeling of involvement-of boredom.” Moreover, LF/HF and HR are affected by complex emotional states in each subject for evaluating emotional states.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"11 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80635246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is based on a local gamma correction piloted by histogram analysis. First, the image histogram is partitioned based on the local minima and the mean gray-level of each partition is calculated. Then, gamma correction is performed using the resulted mean gray-levels. By analyzing the partitioned histograms, the parameters are automatically adjusted. Experimental results show that both good contrast enhancement performance and image brightness preservation can be achieved by the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"468 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79900921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the restricted detection angle of our previously proposed system, unstable detection can be encountered when patients turn the body over. Our new REHCID placed on both sides of the bed allow the system to detect the patient's breathing regardless of his posture. Our design uses both an Infrared (IR) illuminator projected onto the patient's chest and an IR camera to detect the location of the IR LED. We then transport the IR location to the computer by means of Bluetooth. As the infrared rays are invisible, this design can still detect effectively in a dim environment, without at all influencing the quality of the patient's sleep.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"365 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80345504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An embedded compression algorithm is a technique that can compress the frame data when stored in memory. It is possible to reduce memory requirements. In this paper, we propose a lossless embedded compression algorithm with context-based error compensation to reduce the memory bandwidth requirement. Experimental results have shown at least 50% memory bandwidth reduction on average and the data reduction ratio of the proposed algorithm is up to 5% higher than previously proposed lossless embedded compression algorithm [2].","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"25 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82237750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventionally, the transfer function (TF) of the channel to be de-embedded could be obtained independently without capturing its interaction to the DUT. However, as data rates increase and channels become more complex, the errors due to discontinuities at the channel to DUT boundary need to be given due consideration. This paper provides simulation and measurement examples to illustrate this effect and proposes a modified approach of generating the channel TF to compensate for those errors. The proposed approach effectively improves the accuracy of the de-embedded result. It can also be used as a validation scheme to correlate the de-embedding accuracy for a given application.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"116 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79172357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
