The main focus of this research is on the feedback technique via channel quality information (CQI) in order to optimize the performance of Multi-User-MIMO (MU-MIMO) transmissions in both the ideal and the measured transmission channels, using a simulation application to compare the capacity of MU-MIMO performance and Single User (SU)-MISO. The simulation shows the advantage of MU-MIMO technology in terms of optimization of the capacity of MU-MIMO performance due to feedback. This is that the best-companion PMI can be helpful with MU-MIMO precoding. The advantage of the Zero Forced Precoder technique via the feedback is that there is no interference from the other user at the receivers.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"170 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79388520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Control messages are sent over Wi-Fi network from a Wi-Fi device to the microcontroller which then couples the messages to the power lines. Ubiquitous power lines are used as physical media to transmit data over 220V/50Hz signal to control appliances/equipment. The data from the microcontroller is coupled onto the power lines using a PLC (Power Line Communication) modem and DCSK (Differential Code Shift Keying) modulation technique is employed to transmit data. Each receiver unit consists of PLC modem plus microcontroller and can be connected anywhere in the power line network. The receivers have addresses assigned to them and only respond to the commands sent to them by the transmitter PLC modem. The receiver unit controls the flow of electricity to the socket. The entire system is devoid of a computer to save power and make it low cost. Use of open source hardware, Power Line Communication and micro-controller collectively reduce the cost of controlling appliances remotely.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"28 7 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81870912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although some of beloved television programs supply best one-minute clips, the clips reflecting ratings may be irrelevant to the interest of each viewer. Under the television viewing environment, it is difficult for the users to make personal clips by using video editing tools due to the nature of the passive viewing habit and the user interface using remote controls mainly. This paper proposes an automatic clip generation system that extracts interesting parts of viewed content especially to a user by using the EEG-based response data. The system provides the clips, which can be the valuable summaries of what the user viewed with attention, without active human intervention during watching television.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"83 1","pages":"1-2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82752194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SoC integrates 32-bit RISC and 16-bit DSP processor core, camera interface, and a number of peripheral blocks necessary for the implementation of virtual keyboard system. This paper presents also the finger motion recognition algorithm embedded in the SoC. The SoC is tailored to the requirements of the virtual keyboard system which are low power consumption, low computation, and system interfaces. The implementation of the SoC introduces some hardware and software features to meet these requirements. The cal-DMA is the special DMA which is able to calculate simple arithmetic operation with normal DMA function and reduces the computation of the algorithm performed in the SoC. The SoC was fabricated by using 0.18 um CMOS process and it was evaluated successfully on the real-time test board.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"215 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86772799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the proposed method adopts local process by using multi-scale mask. The coefficients for each multi-scale mask are obtained to apply the gray world algorithm. Then, integrating the coefficients with weights is performed to calculate correction ratio for red and blue channels in the gray world assumption. Finally, the corrected image is obtained by applying the integrated coefficients to the gray world algorithm. In the experimental results, the proposed method reproduces better colors for both wholly and partially faded images compared with the previous methods.","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"48 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83413015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those non-invasive BCI systems rely on large number (up to 128) of wet (using conductive gel) electrodes for higher detection accuracy and good signal to noise ratio (SNR). They are studied and designed primarily with focus on medical applications. The electrodes are usually mounted on a special cap and connected through multiple wires. The proper positioning of the cap requires assistance and takes significant amount of time. In this work we review the principles for EEG signal processing and feature extraction most suitable for applications in consumer electronics. Further, we propose a motor imagery brain-computer interface (BCI) based system, using only two active easy to set dry electrodes connected wirelessly with a consumer electronic device. The proposed system relies on the optimal use of event related synchronization (ERS) and desynchronization (DRS) across three distinct EEG frequency bands in order to improve the detection and reduce the training time to only 10 sec. We present our ongoing research investigating the detection accuracy with different signal preprocessing techniques and feature extraction methods. The proposed system aims at making brain-computer interfaces popular with consumer products, providing a more natural human computer interaction (HCI).","PeriodicalId":6297,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Consumer Electronics","volume":"21 1","pages":"1-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84582751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
