Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby. This research uses analytical approach of post-colonial literature in the form of colonial behavior passed down to the weak, namely the colonized who consciously or unconsciously becomes the object of ideological oppression and power hegemony. The data collection techniques were reading, identifying, classifying, interpreting, inferring. The results of the analysis of events in the novel suggest that the descriptions of the colonized ideology are in the forms of hybrid ideology, mimicry, ethnicism, racism, sexism, and classism. The author describes that Gatsby has reflected ideology of hybrid, mimicry, racism, and ethnicism in his struggle to change his social status to be a rich man designated as the Jazz to attract Desy, his former girlfriend who has left him to marry Tom who has reflected ideology of classism and sexism to the colonialized native inhabitant.","PeriodicalId":55790,"journal":{"name":"Atavisme","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43773947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The acts of bullying are conducted by female characters towards her female peers. The bullying caused by envious feeling among characters takes forms of discrediting, insulting, and name calling. Narrative strategy theories proposed by Mieke Bal (2009), Fludernik (1997), and Priyatna (2010) were used to discuss the issues of bullying. The focalisator’s analysis shows the existing issues of bullying represented through the attitudes of female characters as the perpetrators and victims of bullying. The results of this study indicate the presence of harassment that is portrayed specifically through female characters. The acts of bullying described are parts of the verbal, physical, and social categories of bullying. This research also found that the narrator takes neither sides, the victims nor the perpetrators. Thus, it can be argued that the novel takes a passive stance against bullying in a way that it even lets bullying to occur.","PeriodicalId":55790,"journal":{"name":"Atavisme","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45340775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the ethnographic method, the research begins with an inventory of library data and is equipped with field data collected through interviews, observation, and participation. The story of Sri Tanjung Sidopekso becomes the janger play and theme of Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival. The mantra of jaran goyang is transformed into dance and song. Various creative industries have the potential as a source of reconstructing oral literature. In coastal societies, there has developed oral literature related to maritime culture. In Muncar Banyuwangi, the rituals of petik laut use spells and maritime cultural symbols, such as mantras, pilgrimages to the tombs of the founders of the Muncar fishing village. While in Payangan Jember, the story of the founders of the fishing village is respected by singing macapat Babad Marsodo. All of those are meaningful when they become action, knowledge, experience, and appreciation of the supporting community. The results show that oral literature has the potential to inspire the creative industries. Re-versely, creative industries have the potential as a source for reconstructing oral literature that enriches their forms and versions.","PeriodicalId":55790,"journal":{"name":"Atavisme","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42038354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, this study has two main problems: (1) how deconstruction works on the existentialism of the characters in the novel, (2) what are the inherent values contained in the novel as a result of the deconstruction study of the concept of character’s existentialism. This study employs the theory and method of deconstruction as a framework of analysis and existentialism as a concept. The result of this study indicates that the existentialism echoed by the author as the primary value is deconstructed into character’s dehumanization who deals with the non-freedom of choice of life.","PeriodicalId":55790,"journal":{"name":"Atavisme","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46472464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
