With regard to the population, increasing importance is being put on the social determinants of one’s health status, because these determinants generate social and health inequalities. The latter may be defined as “potentially avoidable health differences between groups of people who are more or less socially privileged”. They occur worldwide and have a universal and persistent character. Health inequalities have recently become a major public health problem. To understand them, it is necessary to analyze the social determinants of health, as well as the perspective going beyond the so-called standard risk factors (i.e., cause of causes). Poverty, level of education, the type of work performed, and the social and political situation of state may shape the health profile of individual populations. The impact of these factors will be palpable in epidemiological factors such as mortality, including infant mortality, and life expectancy. The article discusses the concept of health inequalities. Particular attention has been paid to selected social determinants of health, such as poverty, level of education and work.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41992764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In people with normal body mass and increased content of visceral fat, the same metabolic disorders occur as in obese people, including insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome features. Objectives. The aim of the study was to analyze the components of the body composition of young adults, the occurrence of so-called normal weight obesity (metabolic obese normal-weight – MONW) and the presence of excessive body fat in individuals with normal BMI. Material and methods. The survey and anthropometric measurements (TANITA MC-780) were conducted in a group of 100 students of Wroclaw Medical University (48 men, 52 women) aged 18–26. Results. In the study group, the average BMI of women was higher than men, but the difference was not statistically significant ( p > 0.05). There were no dif-ferences in the incidence of underweight, normal body weight and obesity depending on sex ( p > 0.05). The occurrence of overweight (BMI from 25 to 29.99) was significantly higher in female students ( p = 0.0039). The average percentage of adipose tissue was statistically insignificantly higher in women ( p > 0.05). Among 7 people in whom the percentage of adipose tissue was higher than desired, the correct BMI was found in 2 people and BMI indicating overweight in 4 people. In 100% the participants of the study had the medium level of visceral fat (0–13). Conclusions. Most of young adults (73%) have a correct BMI. Overweight is more common in women. The percentage of adipose tissue was higher than desired in 7% of respondents. Identifying the people with an increased risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome enables the development and planning of preventive measures addressed to young adults.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43155164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To a significant extent, her nursing work was innovative, which resulted from the fact that she was able to recognize the need to care for the ill outside hospitals and nursing homes. An accurate diagnosis of the family environment and local community resources was the first step to provide support. The next step was to assess the needs of an ill person and offer appropriate support. Chrzanowska organized teams which consisted of both professional nurses and the ones in training. She based teamwork on their voluntary and professional involvement. One of her greatest achievements was organizing spiritual retreat for ill people. She helped them overcome physical and social barriers to integration. Nursing home care initiated by Chrzanowska was deeply rooted in religion. It also reflected her willingness to help people regardless of their faith or financial resources. The work of home hospices in Poland may be regarded as a continuation of Chrzanowska’s activity. However, the origins of hospice care are more complex. It seems necessary to present theoretical assumptions and practical solutions to the problems of the terminally ill in home hospice care. Chrzanowska’s legacy may help to overcome obstacles in the process of providing hospice care.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41715249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted among 160 children aged 12 years from Koszalin. Children were divided into 2 groups: a group subjected to nutritional education and a group not subjected to such a program. The research was carried out twice: before the educational program was started and 6 months after its completion. The tool was the author’s questionnaire, which asked about the frequency of consumption of food products, the frequency of meals consumed during the day, the frequency of consumption of selected beverages, and the habit of snacking. In addition, the height and weight of children were measured and the Cole index was calculated, and then on this basis the nutritional status of the children was determined.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41859136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are used in didactics, for scientific purposes, in scientific publications, in specialist databases, as well as for marketing and educational purposes. Very often such photos can be found on the websites of specialized medical offices and social media, on such websites as Facebook or Instagram. The development of the communication channels of the modern world, combined with the increasing availability of the Internet, leads to postulates to safeguard the patient image, which is not always adequately legally protected, among others, due to the absence of separate regulations. An overview of selected rulings and doctrines shows the differences that exist in the definitions of a human image. The lack of a legal definition of image results in the lack of clear guidelines on how to understand the patient image. By introducing appropriate regulations or recommendations that would determine what exactly the patient image is, as well as when and under what conditions the patient image can be published, it would be possible to avoid uncertain situations and limit possible future claims and legal issues.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49172486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Z uwagi na wciąż niezadowalające wyniki leczenia kluczowe znaczenie ma profilaktyka. Celem pracy było zaproponowanie możliwych działań profilaktycznych zapobiegających oparzeniom u dzieci z użyciem matrycy Haddona. Poddano analizie czynniki ryzyka oparzeń u dzieci, wyodrębniając zgodnie z matrycą Haddona 4 ich grupy: związane z osobą, czynnikiem oparzającym, środowiskiem fizycznym oraz środowiskiem socjoekonomicznym. Następnie podzielono je w zależności od przedziału czasowego na mające znaczenie przed, w trakcie oraz po zdarzeniu. Z uwagi na to, że większość oparzonych <18. r.ż. w chwili urazu znajduje się pod opieką rodziców, działania profilaktyczne w fazie „przed zdarzeniem” powinny być ukierunkowane na edukację opiekunów małych dzieci i zmiany w środowisku fizycznym oraz socjoekonomicznym, które zminimalizują ryzyko oparzenia. W fazie „po zdarzeniu” ważne jest poprawne udzielenie pierwszej pomocy, która w większości przypadków przeprowadzana jest nieprawidłowo (brak schładzania rany, nakładanie różnych substancji na ranę, niestosowanie leków przeciwbólowych). Personel medyczny powinien być przeszkolony w zakresie specjalistycznej opieki zarówno nad oparzonym małym pacjentem, jak i jego rodziną. Matryca Haddona może być zastosowana w celu skuteczniejszego planowania działań profilaktycznych, aby zmniejszyć liczbę oparzeń u dzieci.
