The phenomenon of self-care in chronic diseases on the example of patients with multiple sclerosis

Abstract

Background. The increasing number of people suffering from chronic diseases constitutes a challenge for public health specialists. Due to the limitations in the treatment of diseases of unknown etiology, patients become prone to undertake self-care. Depending on the policy, education and culture of a given country, the phenomenon may become a chance or a threat in the context of the functioning of healthcare.
