Antibiotics are a group of drugs which, when taken not according to doctor’s recommenda tions, may contribute to the increase of antibiotic resistance. Wide use of antibiotics in the fight against pathogenic strains of bacteria has contributed to the resistance of bacteria. An important problem related with the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance is the spread of acquired resistance, which is associated with the unreasonable use of antibiotics by humans, i.e., their abuse.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47467181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overweight and obesity have become epidemic diseases in Egypt. The first step to combat overweight and obesity is to study their immediate and underlying causes. Objectives. To evaluate the prevalence of overweight/obesity among Egyptian children and adolescents in correlation to food consumption patterns and other risk factors. Material and methods. This study was conducted in 369 children and adolescents, age ranging 3–18 years. Sociodemographic data and food consumption patterns were recorded using a food frequency questionnaire. Body mass index was calculated and the World Health Organization (WHO) age- and gender-percentile charts were used to determine overweight and obesity. Results. We found that 147 (39%) of the children and adolescents studied were overweight or obese. Age was inversely correlated to overweight/obesity prevalence and male gender was positively correlated. The highest rate of overweight/obesity was at the age of 3–4 years among boys. Parental education levels and socioeconomic status revealed no correlation with overweight/obesity. Carbonated soft drinks were the only dietary element positively correlated (Spearman’s rho = 0.129; p = 0.017). After adjusting the effect of age and gender; carbohydrates, eggs, sugar (either added by the consumer to drinks and food or eaten on their own), crackers, junk food, chocolate, carbonated soft drinks and juices influenced overweight/obesity among children and adolescents ( p < 0.05). Conclusions. High percentages of overweight/obesity have been reported among Egyptian children and adolescents. Prompt action needs to be taken to prohibit unhealthy food items including carbonated soft drinks, crackers, juices and chocolates in schools as well as to advocate for increasing taxes on them.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43661927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent decades, there has been a dynamic increase in the number of suicide attempts and suicides in the group of young people. Adolescents are predisposed to suicidal behavior more than adults due to developmental changes occurring in their organisms. However, there are difficulties in accurately identifying predictors of suicide. Depression, anxiety, the use of psychoactive substances, and eating disorders are important risk factor for suicide death, but they can also co-occur with other psychopathological, sociological and psychological predictors. There is a need of greater sensitivity of medical teams, especially in general pediatric wards, as well as widespread awareness of the risk of suicidal behavior during adolescence for effective prevention of this phenomenon. It is a multifaceted task for the entire medical community, not just the domain of psychologists and psychiatrists. The pur-pose of the article is to present the causes of suicidal behavior of adolescents, such as depression, anxiety, the use of psychoactive substances, and eating disorders, based on the analysis of scientific reports in the field of suicidology.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41420766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper is devoted to an analysis of these challenges from the perspective of the la-test trends in the theory of deliberative democracy – specifically, the deliberative systems theory. The paper presents an analysis of selected actions and statements of the main stakeholders of the dispute. The starting point for the analysis is (within the deliberative systems theory) a comprehensive rehabilitation of self-interest in deliberation and appreciation of the systemic role of strikes. The article contains a summary and theoretical synthesis of challenges for deliberative consideration of self-interests in policy-making. Three main challenges – i.e., the typical non-deliberative strategies regarding self-interests – are distinguished: 1) compartmentalization – reducing the problem to a narrow bargaining of these interests; 2) instrumentalization of other inputs (such as emotions) to suppress self-interest; and 3) too rigorous standard of public deliberation that leads to the exclusion of self-interests as contrary to the common good. The article discusses the criteria for as-sessing these strategies from the perspective of functionality of the deliberative system. The use of the deliberative democratic theory in the analysis of the discourse surrounding the nurses’ strike indicates the usefulness of applying this research perspective in the area of public health.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44425414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to being the most frequent cause of female infertility, PCOS is also said to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, glucose intolerance and type 2 diabetes. Other risk factors such as obesity, a positive family history of type 2 diabetes and hyperandrogenism may also contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease among women affected by PCOS. The risk assessment of metabolic disorders should be commonly recommended for PCOS patients in everyday medical practice. It makes possible to precisely determine the goals of nutritional interventions among PCOS women. The following work constitutes a review of articles from 1996–2019 available in the PubMed (National Center for Biotechnology Information) database and the Polish Medical Bibliography (Polska Bibliografia Lekarska). For this purpose, the following controlled vocabulary has been used: “PCOS”, “overweight”, “obesity”, “insulin resistance”, “hyperandrogenism”, “hypertension”, “lipid disorders”, “diabetes”, “cardiometabolic risk”, “cardiovascular disease”, and “lifestyle modifications”.","PeriodicalId":52931,"journal":{"name":"Pielegniarstwo i Zdrowie Publiczne","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46163768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
