In the past decade, numerous Polish cities hoping to increase the modal share of cycling have also adopted bike-sharing. Such systems continuously register user movements through installed sensors. The resulting database allows a highly detailed representation of this segment of urban mobility. This article illustrates how a database accessed via a Web API (Web Application Programming Interface) could be used to investigate the spatial distribution of trips, using the case study of Poznań, the fifth-largest city in Poland. Using geographical information systems, we identify the hot spots of bike-sharing as well as areas with low usage. The research procedure outlined in the paper provides knowledge that allows better responding to users’ needs.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70998211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a witness of their development in Central Europe, and at the same time a geographer – professor at the Jagiellonian University, he saw the advantages of the new mode of transport for the economy, society and sightseeing. The paper analyses episodes from W. Pol’s biography with a reference to the stages of the process of spatial diffusion of railways in the world. An attempt was made to indicate the places and circumstances of his direct contact with railways, especially during his travels. Elements of his scientific output related to the geography of rail transport were also indicated. The research was based on his writings, including the mail, and other literature, iconographic and cartographic sources. The most important result of the analyses is a spatial reconstruction of the routes that W. Pol could have travelled by train between 1845 and 1872.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70998139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spread of the epidemic caused the introduction of an epidemiological emergency in Poland in early March (on March 12). This resulted in reduced public transport, including regional rail transport. In Lower Silesia, this concerned regional and fast connections. The conducted analysis concerns regional connections and is based on exploration of the spatial and the quantitative aspect of these changes. The transport offer before and after the announcing of the epidemic was analysed. The results showed that most of the transport restrictions concerned the peripheries of the voivodeship (local routes). Agglomeration routes were much less affected by the restrictions. On some lines a decrease to less than 5 pairs of connections per day was recorded. Once the restrictions are removed, it may be a challenge to encourage passengers to use railways again. Despite the low number of connections on many routes, rail transport can still be considered as the basis of the transport system. This is due to the lack of an alternative bus service.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70997501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Poland joined this group very quickly. The growing isolation of society also had an impact on non-urban public transport, especially one that was operated at the carriers’ own risk. The author of the article had a database, current as of spring 2019, with the number of bus connections in the area of six counties covering the ranges of the Low Beskids and the Bieszczady Mountains. This was an ideal starting point for trying to answer the question what the situation is like almost exactly a year later. Based on a study conducted in early April 2020, a catastrophic picture of public transport in the area has emerged. In the case of Bieszczady and Lesko Counties, there was a total lack of local bus connections. In Sanok, Krosno, Jasło and Gorlice Counties, the network of connections serving mainly the capitals of these units of administrative division has been severely limited. One of the main reasons for the observed process is suspension of school activities. This is also accompanied by a reduction in adult mobility resulting from a fear of a serious disease and a greater tendency to use other means of transport, as well as resignation from commuting by people working in jobs where remote work is possible or in companies that suspended their activity. Maintaining this situation poses a threat of huge economic problems for carriers. If it continues for many months, it may result in difficulties in traveling to schools that may appear after the holidays.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70997783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first complex traffic survey were conducted in 1969, so 50th anniversary of such researches seem to be a good occasion to the summaries. In analysed period important socio-economic and political transformations could be observed. Such critical junctions as the fall of communism, accession to the European Union, etc. had important role in changing mobility patterns of inhabitants. In our article we collected and compared the results of traffic surveys conducted in Polish cities in the last 50 years. Based on this database we were able to identify the most important transformations of travel behaviours. Also the origins of these changes were investigated. Finally, we discussed the possibilities of the use of mobility data and advantages of regular monitoring of travel behaviours in urban areas.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70997409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This was the result of both increasing the purchasing power and the changes in legal conditions. An important factor influencing the popularity of two-wheelers are also changes in communication preferences of Poles, caused by the increase of mobility needs and growing communication problems in cities. The changes in the number of PTW vehicles and their structure are clearly differentiated spatially compared to the country. This is mainly due to socio-economic and cultural conditions. The market for PTW vehicles is different in urban areas, where motorcycles dominate with a relatively low number of vehicles per number of inhabitants. In rural areas, saturation with PTW vehicles is higher than in cities, with the majority of mopeds and motorcycles of smaller capacity. The aim of the article is to present the changes of the PTW market in the years 2000-2017 in districts. The research was based on the data from the central register of vehicles and drivers (CEPIK), the Central Statistical Office and the Polish Automotive Industry Association.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70997421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is why new propulsion systems are being improved – mainly hybrid and electric ones. In the last five years, they have been increasingly used on ferries on ports and coastal waters. The short route and the use of the same ferry ports facilitate the use of hybrid or electric propulsion. The basis of this article is the assumption that the technical and operational features of these ferries are optimized considering geographical and economic conditions. Its purpose, however, is to identify these con- ditions based on 15 case studies of hybrid or electric ferry implementations on port or coastal routes. Five main geographical conditions of the electrification of ferry shipping are indicated: the shape of the shoreline and nautical conditions, the level of development of transport system, the structure of primary energy consumption and the level of development of the electricity production and distribution system, the policy of electromobility development as well as electric or hybrid ferry design and production capabilities. The final solutions for each ferry crossing are the result of a specific configuration of these interde-pendent conditions. Most case studies concerned Europe, which is why there is a need for further research into this type of investment. Along with their spread in other parts of the world, it will be possible to verify the identified catalog of conditions.","PeriodicalId":52611,"journal":{"name":"Prace Komisji Geografii Komunikacji PTG","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70997580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
