Kengatharan, Sorubiga Kunatilakam","doi":"10.1504/ijwoe.2020.10032041","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1504/ijwoe.2020.10032041","url":null,"abstract":"The research drew on gender role ideology, conservation of resources and social identity theory to explore the relationships between work-family conflict, emotional intelligence, leader-member exchange, employee engagement and job performance. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 169 female nurses working in three major hospitals in Sri Lanka. The study found that work-family conflict was negatively related to employee engagement and job performance. However, the negative relationship between work-family conflict and job performance turned out to be positive at a higher level of emotional intelligence. The study further found that the negative relationship between work-family conflict and employee engagement was weaker for those reporting a higher level of leader-member exchange. The study contributes to the extant literature by unearthing theoretical relationships in the healthcare sector. Among all others, Argentine submarine ARA San Juan, Malaysia Airline flight MH370, Canadian MM&A Train explosion and British Airways Boeing 777 left the world and its people under shock. Nonetheless, the immense mental trauma through which the victim families went was unimaginable. The way some authorities managed the emotions of the victim families during these crisis were really appreciable. This paper assessed the ways through which these disasters were managed by respective authorities from two perspectives, effective management of emotions of the victim families and cultural differences in crisis communication. The present study aimed to investigate the linkage between emotional work (surface acting and deep acting) and employee wellbeing of civil aviation industry by drawing a sample of 600 employees of civil aviation industry of North India. The findings of the study have revealed that there is significant positive impact of emotional work on employee wellbeing. Results of present study have presented a different facet of emotional work which determines that emotional work does not impact employee wellbeing in adverse manner. The sample size of the study constitutes 255 textile managers/executives. Partial least squares-structural equational modelling (PLS-SEM) has been applied for testing the research hypotheses. As per the results, conscientiousness has shown a significant indirect effect on procrastination among the respondents through self-efficacy. Conscientiousness stimulates self-efficacy; where this finding corroborates with the one produced in many previous research works. The study has academic as well as practical implications.
