{"title":"Nutritional status of preschoolers in the public school system of Macaé: a panel study conducted between 2012-2014 and 2017-2019 in the context of the oil crisis and the implementation of educational actions based on the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population.","authors":"Ana Eliza Port Lourenço, Thácia de Araújo Amado Coutinho, Luana Silva Monteiro, Laís Vargas Botelho, Priscila Vieira Pontes, Naiara Sperandio","doi":"10.1590/S2237-96222025v34e20240386.en","DOIUrl":"10.1590/S2237-96222025v34e20240386.en","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To assess the nutritional status of preschool children in the public school system of Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, at two apart times, separated by an interval of five years.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This is a panel study conducted between 2012-2014 and 2017-2019, including five schools, located in regions with different socioeconomic conditions. The samples covered 15.0% of the total number of students in the public early childhood education network in Macaé. Indicators of height-for-age and body mass index for age were evaluated. Summary measurements of anthropometric variables were calculated, with stratification by sex and age group. For comparisons between groups and surveys, Student's t-test or Mann-Whitney and chi-square tests were used.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>1,028 and 1,005 preschoolers were evaluated in each period. The average age was 55.3 and 54.7 months, with 50.6% and 51.6% being girls. Height deficit was identified in 1.9% and 2.1% of the children, with no significant difference by sex, age group or between surveys. The prevalence of obesity was 5.1% and 4.7% among those under 5 years old, and 10.1% and 11.0% among the oldest, also with no difference between the surveys.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>At both moments of the panel, the prevalence of nutritional deficit was low, and of obesity, relatively high. Despite the context of crisis in the local economy, the frequency of anthropometric indicators did not deteriorate between the surveys. {"title":"Temporal trend and epidemiological profile of notifications of violence against women in Brazil: 2014-2023.","authors":"Geovanna Carvalho Cardoso Lima, Camila Mendes Dos Passos, Alba Lúcia Santos Pinheiro, Ícaro José Santos Ribeiro, Emanuella Gomes Maia","doi":"10.1590/S2237-96222025v34e20240475.en","DOIUrl":"10.1590/S2237-96222025v34e20240475.en","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>To analyze the temporal trend and epidemiological profile of notifications of violence against women in Brazil between 2014 and 2023.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This is a time series, conducted using the National System of Injuries and Notifications (SINAN) for interpersonal and self-inflicted violence. Descriptive statistics and Prais-Winsten regression were used to analyze the data.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Notifications of violence against women showed an increasing trend between 2014 and 2023, especially after 2020 (from 9.8 to 19.2 cases per 100,000 women per year). Proportionally, self-inflicted injuries stood out over interpersonal aggression. The majority of notifications referred to adult women (54.0%), with incomplete elementary school from the 4th to the 8th grade (17.4%) and of brown race/skin color (43.0%). Bodily force/beating prevailed as a means of aggression (31.9%), carried out by the spouse (17.3%) and in the home environment (73.4%).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Violence against women has increased in the last decade, with such increase intensifying in recent years. The response variable was dental loss of 13 or more teeth, the exposure was the intersectionality of gender, race/skin color, and the association was analyzed using logistic regression. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were calculated. Sequential adjustments were made for age, education and macroregion of Brazil.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Among the 73,813 adults, higher odds of dental loss were observed in white women (OR 1.38 [95%CI 1.21; 1.56]) and Black women (OR 1.70 [95%CI 1.53; 1.89]) compared to white men, even after full adjustment. Among Black men, no significant differences were observed compared to white men regarding dental loss.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>Dental loss is associated with the intersectionality of gender, race/skin color. White and Black women appear to be more susceptible to dental loss.
