Three aspects of same are examined including its distribution across genres, its functional description and its position in discourse. Two comparable samples were extracted from the reference corpora of these two sign languages. An annotation protocol and a segmentation model designed for the study of discourse relational devices in the spoken modality were used with the necessary adaptations to the signed modality. The results show a different distribution of same across genres in each sign language and several possible positions. Although same is polyfunctional in the two datasets, the most frequent function in the French Belgian Sign Language dataset (i.e., addition) is not found in the Catalan Sign Language dataset. This finding indicates that equivalent discourse relational devices in the signed modality also have language-specific functions as their counterparts in the spoken modality do.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2019-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41415176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we examine the co-occurrence of discourse markers and other relational signals when they are used together to mark a single relation. With the goal to identify the source of the usage of multiple signals, we postulate a two-fold hypothesis: the co-occurrence of discourse markers and other textual signals can result from the type of the discourse markers themselves, or it can be triggered by the semantics of the relations in question. We conduct a corpus study, examining instances of multiple signals (co-occurrence of discourse markers and other signals) in the RST Signalling Corpus (Das et al., 2015). We analyze discourse markers that appear as part of multiple signals and also relations that frequently employ multiple signals as their indicators. Our observations suggest that the signalling of relations by multiple signals is a complex phenomenon, since the co-occurrence of discourse markers and other textual signals appears to arise from multiple sources.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2019-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49517921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these models target written language and the discourse relations that hold between sentences. In this paper, we present, assess and apply a new annotation taxonomy that targets discourse markers (instead of discourse relations) in spoken language and addresses their polyfunctionality in an alternative way. In particular, its main innovative feature is to distinguish between two independent layers of semantic-pragmatic information (i.e., domains and functions) which, once combined, provide a fine-grained disambiguation of discourse markers. We compare the affordances of this model to existing proposals, and illustrate them with a corpus study. A sample of conversational French containing 423 discourse marker tokens was fully analyzed by two independent annotators. We report on inter-annotator agreement scores, as well as quantitative analyses of the distribution of domains and functions in the sample. Both powerful and economical, this proposal advocates a flexible and modular approach to discourse analysis, and paves the way for further corpus-based studies on the challenging category of discourse markers.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2019-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43963287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La democratisation de l’ecriture – tout locuteur ecrit et tout locuteur peut rendre ses textes publics sur Internet – est supposee etre le catalyseur de changements des normes du francais ecrit. Pour travailler sur la question, nous etudions un echantillon de lettres provenant d’un site Internet d’aide juridique, ecrites par des internautes et destinees a des professionnels du droit. Les lettres etudiees presentent une coherence claire qui suit un certain modele. Nous constatons la presence de phenomenes appartenant au francais ecrit conventionnel mais aussi celle de caracteristiques qui s’en eloignent. Nous nous sommes particulierement concentrees sur l’etude des jonctions entre propositions qui ont un role cohesif. En utilisant les notions proposees par Raible (1992 ; 2001), nous avons etudie le degre d’integration du texte et sa densite. Il apparait que le genre discursif en question est a la charniere de tendances presque opposees : la densite du francais ecrit conventionnel est confrontee a de multiples moyens linguistiques plus lâches, temoins d’un desserrement textuel.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48304157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our case study (24 learners, 3 productions per learner in the course of 3 months) deals with a semi-longitudinal corpus, where each of the productions is supposed to be more complex than the previous one. Random forests (Breiman, 2001; Hothorn et al., 2019) are used in order to see whether lexical diversity metric scores capture enough vocabulary diversity progression to predict the production wave. We report that lexical diversity metrics capture lexical progression through the three productions of each student. Nous etudions en particulier l’influence du japonais langue premiere dans l’acquisition des constructions verbales auxiliees (CVA) en francais L2. Une premiere etude (etude 1) compare les formes verbales employees dans le francais L2 parle par sept locuteurs de L1 japonais et celles produites par sept locuteurs d’une autre L1, l’allemand. L’analyse contrastive des formes verbales employees en contexte pluriel par des apprenants nippophones montre une nette tendance a privilegier des CVA. L’etude suivante (etude 2) verifie ce phenomene a travers l’etude qualitative de quatre autres recits en francais L2 (japonais L1) et explore deux nouvelles hypotheses explicatives de l’emergence des CVA dans les narrations d’apprenants nippophones : une influence du discours narratif de la langue premiere (moyens linguistiques de structuration informationnelle et d’ancrage temporel du recit) et une influence de la structure prosodique du japonais L1, au moyen d’une comparaison entre les recits en francais L2 (japonais L1) et ceux produits en francais L1 et japonais L1. Dans cette serie, la digression coexiste avec l’exemplum et l’illustration. C’est l’effet de deviation mis en place dans le tissu textuel qui justifie ce regroupement. Dans cet article, nous montrons que la digression releve toujours d’une strategie qui contribue a l’instauration d’effets de cohesion et de coherence ; elle s’inscrit dans le mouvement de complexification des structures textuelles et sequentielles observable dans le parcours diachronique du francais. Le cadre diachronique mis en place dans notre etude est construit autour de la periode du moyen francais, caracterisee par l’apparition de textes a dominante explicative ou argumentative. Le developpement de ces nouveaux modeles textuels va de pair avec une nouvelle conception de la coherence discursive. C’est dans ces nouveaux types de textes representatifs de domaines de savoir varies (par exemple medecine, philosophie, agriculture) que nous etudions les modalites d’inscription de la digression. Ces dernieres peuvent etre de nature implicite et explicite (marqueurs permettant de cerner le debut et / ou la fin d’une digression). Nous avons retenu pour l’analyse les unites suivantes qui peuvent fonctionner comme des marqueurs de changement de topique du discours : altfel (« sinon », « par ailleurs »), de altfel (« d’ailleurs »), de asemenea (« d’ailleurs », « en outre »), (de) altminteri (« par ailleurs », « d’ailleurs »), pe de altă parte (« d’un autre cote », « d’un autre point de vue »), in altă ordine de idei (« par ailleurs ») et apropo (« a propos »). Comme la plupart des marques pragmatiques dans les langues romanes, ces unites sont polyvalentes, pouvant combiner plusieurs fonctions discursives et modales au niveau du discours. Elles contribuent a l’orientation du topique de discours, ayant en meme temps une valeur argumentative. Notre analyse prendra comme point de depart l’etymologie des marqueurs susmentionnes et leur evolution semantico-fonctionnelle, pour tenter d’expliquer l’apparition, dans certains contextes d’emploi, de leur valeur pragmatique de marqueurs de changement de topique de discours (c’est-a-dire leur pragmaticalisation). Nos arguments seront illustres par des exemples tires d’un corpus forme de textes litteraires (fournis par les bases de donnees textuelles du roumain Archeus.ro, CORV [Corpus de română vorbită] et IVLRA [Interacţiunea verbală in limba română actuală]) aussi bien que d’echantillons de langue ecrite et parlee preleves sur le web a l’aide du moteur de recherche Google ou des dictionnaires en ligne Reverso et Linguee.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44330601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyzed the short narratives of school-age Quebec French-speaking children: bilinguals with and without ASD, and monolinguals with and without ASD. Children were given sets of three picture cards depicting a scenario, and were asked to sequence the cards and tell a story. We measured: (1) language production (number of utterances, total number of words), (2) macrostructure (appropriate sequencing of events, number of events mentioned, coherence), (3) microstructure (character introductions, maintenance of referential terms, use of grammatical gender, use of connectives), and (4) evaluative devices (both linguistic and non-linguistic), and mental state terms. With respect to language production, bilinguals produced more utterances than monolinguals, despite having marginally lower receptive vocabulary scores in French. With respect to macrostructure, typically-developing children provided more coherent narratives. No significant differences were found on microstructure or evaluative devices, but evaluative devices were infrequent for all groups. There were no decrements in the narratives of bilingual children relative to monolingual children, both with and without ASD; in fact we found an increased number of utterances in the narratives of bilinguals. The current findings suggest that bilingualism does not negatively affect narrative skills in children with ASD.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2018-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47047127","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nous defendons l’hypothese qu’en hongrois, le focus discursif local vehicule l’information placee au centre d’attention (Rickheit et Habel, 1995) et se trouve toujours en position initiale de la proposition. Le topique discursif local relie l’information au contexte (Cornish, 2004) et n’est pas toujours place en position initiale. Ce phenomene aboutit a des associations (topique focalise en position initiale) et a des dissociations topique-focus (le focus et le topique sont deux arguments differents) dans les textes hongrois. Afin d’observer la trajectoire developpementale de celles-ci, nous avons collecte des narrations orales aupres de locuteurs hongrois natifs appartenant a 5 groupes d’âge (3, 5, 7-8, 11-12 ans, adultes). Le stimulus utilise etait le livre Frog, where are you ? (Mayer, 1969). Nos resultats confirment le consensus general sur la preference des locuteurs pour les topiques focalises en position initiale dans les textes narratifs. Toutefois, nos observations montrent que le taux des dissociations augmente avec l’âge. Les topiques dissocie et associe sont utilises pour le maintien des personnages recurrents a l’aide des suffixes verbaux. Les enfants attirent l’attention surtout sur les actions jusqu’a l’âge de 7-8 ans alors que les adolescents et les adultes recourent au role de focus dissocie pour introduire des entites inanimees et pour reintroduire les personnages primaires.","PeriodicalId":51977,"journal":{"name":"Discours-Revue de Linguistique Psycholinguistique et Informatique","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45543215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
