In the context of cancers, autophagy has a significant impact on tumor occurrence and tumor cell growth. On the one hand, autophagy limits the transformation of precancerous cells into cancer cells at an early stage. However, on the other hand, it promotes cell survival, cell proliferation, metastasis and resistance to anti-tumor therapies in more advanced tumors. Autophagy can be induced by a variety of extracellular and intracellular stimulus. Viral infections have often been associated with a modulation of autophagy, with variable impacts on viral replication and on the survival of infected cells depending on the model studied. In a tumor context, the modulation of autophagy induced by the viral infection of tumor cells seems to have a significant impact on tumor progression. The aim of this review article is to present recent findings regarding the consequences of autophagy disturbance by viral infections on tumor behavior.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 2","pages":"159-167"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39796302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability to become invisible to the immune system effectors is a complex process resting on a variety of stealth approaches. Among these, human herpesviruses-6A and -6B (HHV-6A/B) have developed the unique ability to integrate their genome within the ends of chromosomes allowing viral persistence in the absence of viral protein expression. This aptitude, unique to HHV-6A/B among human herpesviruses, requires close interactions between the telomeric regions of chromosomes and the viral genome. In this review article, the biology of telomeres and the mechanisms responsible for viral integration are discussed. In closing, the possible biological consequences of HHV-6A/B integration into chromosomal DNA are discussed.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 2","pages":"168-176"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39796303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In humans, information is mostly visual and is conveyed to the occipital cortex. MRI techniques suggest that it is deciphered in different areas of the temporal cortex, depending upon the observed scene. The neural codes used by neurons of these areas will be discussed in two instances: Recognition of written words and of faces. In the first case, an hypothesis using basic properties of neurons and hierarchy of local combination detectors, accounts for the invariance of their visual form. That it is relevant is emphasized by its successful application to reading mechanism. In the second more recent instance, recognition of human faces by macaques is shown to reside in neuron patches in the inferior temporal cortex, forming a system identifying faces with view invariance. The code allowing facial identification using the electrical activity of 200 neurons was cracked.","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 2","pages":"191-197"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39796306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In West Africa, the circulation of this virus in human populations was first reported in the 1960s in Nigeria. Clinical diagnosis of dengue in West Africa is made difficult by the existence of other diseases with similar clinical presentations. Biological diagnosis remains therefore the only alternative. This biological diagnosis requires high quality equipment and well-trained personnel, which are not always available in resource-limited countries. Thus, many cases of dengue fever are consistently reported as malaria, leading to mismanagement, which can have serious consequences on the health status of patients. It is therefore necessary to set up surveillance systems for febrile infections of unknown origin in Africa by strengthening the diagnostic capacities of national laboratories.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 2","pages":"152-158"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39796301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Better knowledge of these risks has led to a strong mobilization of pediatricians and medical teams for adult care over the last ten years, and the notion of health care transition from childhood to adulthood tends to replace simple care transfer. Transition is a step-by-step well-planned process, over several years, aimed at preparing an adolescent to become an independent empowered young adult, and at accompanying him after the change of healthcare team. Chronic renal diseases beginning in childhood have a very different etiological distribution from those occurring in adulthood. They are often rare diseases benefiting from the care of specific reference centers. It is especially for severe renal failure, and more specifically for young transplant recipients, that transition programs have been developed. We describe here the main recommendations and current transition programs.</p>","PeriodicalId":519512,"journal":{"name":"Medecine sciences : M/S","volume":"38 2","pages":"182-190"},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2022-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39796305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
