As part of our studies in central and southern San Juan, we recently surveyed the eastern side of Calingasta valley to find evidence linked to the preservation of the Qhapaq Nan, and to determine the location of this branch of the Inca road on its way towards the north of Mendoza. The search spanned from Calingasta town (ca. 31°20’S, 69°25’W) to approximately 32°04’S. The results obtained indicate the absence of evidences of the path in the north of the valley, clear visibility of the road from the east of Barreal locality (ca. 31°38’ S, 69°28’W) to ca. 31°55 S, and the absence of major Inca structures in the surveyed area.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"26 1","pages":"219-230"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48439475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Para ello, se analiza la circulacion de materias primas liticas utilizadas para la elaboracion de instrumentos, asi como el uso de los recursos simbolicos organizados por medio del estilo de las puntas de proyectil. Se considera que las interrelaciones sociales poseen una importancia vital para el mantenimiento de la continuidad social y el exito de los procesos de colonizacion inicial de una determinada region. En toda el area de estudio, el cuarzo es la materia prima litica de mayor disponibilidad; sin embargo, se destaca el uso de rocas siliceas para las puntas de proyectil y algunos otros artefactos. Fuentes potenciales de estas rocas fueron identificadas en las Sierras Centrales (provincias de Cordoba y San Luis). En base a estas evidencias, y al modelo de yacencia de rocas para la region, se discuten las implicancias del uso y circulacion de las materias primas liticas para definir el modo de vida y el paisaje social de los primeros pobladores durante la colonizacion inicial del sector central de Argentina. EnglishThe archaeological record corresponding to the Pleistocene-Holocene Transition in Central Argentina (ca. 11,000 - 9000 BP) is evaluated from the perspective of Network Analysis and Landscape Learning, to understand the Social Landscape in which the individuals interacted with other groups that were socially and/or spatially apart. We analyze the circulation of lithic raw materials used for manufacturing tools, as wel as the use of symbolic resources organized according to style in projectile points. We consider that social relationships have a major importance in maintaining social continuity and in the success of the initial colonization processes of a certain region. Quartz is the most abundant raw material in the study area, but siliceous rocks were preferred for the manufacture of projectile points and some other artifacts. Potential sources of these rocks were located in the Central Mountains (Provinces of Cordoba and San Luis). The implications of lithic raw material use and circulation are used to discuss the way of life and the social landscape of the first settlers during the initial colonization of central Argentina.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"26 1","pages":"109-126"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45078916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Concretamente, a partir de su tratamiento desde una perspectiva relacional, busco bosquejar modalidades generales de vinculacion, inherentes al ambiente y a los modos de habitar indigena. Con este objetivo, analizo antecedentes historicos, arqueologicos y etnograficos utilizando tanto las propuestas interpretativas, como las fuentes y datos alli presentados. Observo esta informacion siguiendo el procedimiento de re-ensamble de colectivos, razonado desde una comprension indigena, lo que implica entender el problema por fuera de la dualidad sociedad-ambiente y mas especificamente en terminos de sociabilidad. Esto permite redescubrir asociaciones y modos de vinculacion, asi como construir problemas y perspectivas generalmente no contemplados en los trabajos historicos y arqueologicos regionales. EnglishIn this paper, I propose to question the concept of environment to study indigenous societies in the north of Mendoza. Specifically, using a relational perspective, I intend to outline the general modalities of linkage inherent to the environment and the indigenous ways of dwelling. With this aim in mind, I analyze historical, archaeological, and ethnographic backgrounds using both interpretative proposals as well as the sources and data there presented. I observe this information following the procedure of re-assembly of collectives, reasoned from an indigenous perspective, which involves understanding the problem from outside the society-environment duality, and more specifically in terms of sociability. This allows rediscovering associations and ways of relating, as well as to construct problems and perspectives not usually considered in the historical and archaeological regional bibliography.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"26 1","pages":"87-108"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43255372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Los antecedentes se han centrado en casos particulares o en la descripcion de los artefactos como parte de estudios zooarqueologicos mas amplios. En este trabajo se integra la informacion disponible para el area Interserrana con los objetivos de: caracterizar los aspectos generales de la tecnologia osea; evaluar si los patrones en el uso de la materia prima osea muestran cambios a traves del tiempo; determinar la Clase mas representada en la manufactura de los artefactos y, finalmente, comparar las estrategias empleadas en diferentes areas de la region pampeana. Los resultados del analisis de 36 especimenes indicaron que casi en su totalidad corresponden a instrumentos terminados, mayormente biseles, y que los soportes predominantes son huesos largos de guanaco, principalmente tibias y metapodios. La estrategia utilizada para la fabricacion de los artefactos se vincula con la denominada Clase 2, que representa a los artefactos que fueron elaborados a partir de especimenes fracturados de forma azarosa. Se concluye que la manufactura de los instrumentos estuvo directamente relacionada con las actividades de subsistencia. EnglishStudies of bone technology in the Inter-hills area are scarce. Previous research has focused on case studies or a brief description of the artifacts as part of broader zooarchaeological studies. In this article, the available information for the Inter-hills area is considered with the aims of characterizing the general aspects of bone technology; evaluating possible changes in the use of bone raw material patterns over time; determining the most represented Class in manufactured artifacts, and comparing the strategies employed in different areas of the Pampas region. The results of the analysis of 36 specimens indicated that almost all of them correspond to finished tools, mostly bevels, and that the most frequent blanks are guanaco long bones, mainly tibiae. and metapodials. The strategy used for artifact manufacture is linked to the so-called Class 2, which corresponds to artifacts made from randomly fractured specimens. It is concluded that tool manufacture was directly related to subsistence activities.","PeriodicalId":51926,"journal":{"name":"Arqueologia","volume":"26 1","pages":"149-169"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-04-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46523367","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"历史学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

EnglishWe present the zooarchaeological study of the Casa de Piedra de Ortega site, located in the upper basin of the Limay River (Rio Negro Province, Argentina). We analyze the assemblages coming from the pre-Hispanic component (Period III, 1490 ± 70 C14 BP, immediately before contact), and the post-Hispanic component (Periods IV-V, 280 ± 50 C14 BP). A low incidence of weathering, erosion, and carnivore action was identified indicating good preservation and rapid burial of the assemblages. Most of the remains were deposited by human activities, including the exploitation of native and exotic fauna for feeding and skin use. Throughout the sequence (Periods III to V) Lama guanicoe, Rhea pennata, and Conepatus chinga were exploited, although L. guanicoe was the main resource. In Period IV, Lycalopex griseus, Lycalopex culpaeus, and Chaetophractus villosuswere incorporated into the diet. In Period V, the use of Equus caballus, Bos taurus, and mostly of Ovis aries was recorded. Although a taxonomic diversification was observed in posthispanic occupations, there was also an increase in the intensity of L. guanicoe exploitation. This shows that there was no replacement of native fauna exploitation with the arrival of domestic exotic fauna. The availability of vessels of different chronologies in museum collections, together with the oral memory of Chaco potters, is used to make a diachronic definition of the making and use of this technology. Furthermore, its association with different living contexts accounts for the active participation of ceramics in both functional and symbolic terms. On several occasions, a series of values are either actualized or rejected, depending on the intentions of the producing society. These values are reflected in the manufacturing technique, composition, surface treatment, morphology, and decoration.
