This overview was to validate systemic antibiotics as an adjuvant to scaling and root planing (SRP) for the treatments of periodontal patients with T2D. Literature searches were conducted using Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane, and EMBASE. Randomized trials comparing SRP and systemic antibiotics on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and probing pocket depth (PPD) in adults with T2D and periodontitis were analyzed using network meta-analysis and meta-regression. At 3-month postintervention, meta-analyses of 16 studies revealed that SRP and SRP plus systemic antibiotics (SRPa) had similar significant effects in reducing HbA1c levels of − 0.72% and − 0.96% respectively. While SRP and SRPa also, respectively, reduced PPD of − 0.67 and − 0.89 mm, SRPa showed a better reduction than SRP. At 6-month postintervention, meta-analyses of 7 trials revealed that only SRP was effective in reducing HbA1c levels (−0.29%) but not SRPa. Although both SRP and SRPa still significantly reduced PPD by − 0.56 and − 0.81 mm, respectively, there was no difference between them. The aim of this review was to evaluate graphene compounds, their concentrations, and their effect on mechanical properties as flexural, tensile, and compressive strength and hardness of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK) for dental application. The search was carried out in two steps in PubMed/Medline, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The eligibility criteria included studies that incorporated pure graphene compounds into dental polymers and evaluated their mechanical properties. Were found 4984 results, of which 11 articles were included in this review. Graphene compounds: graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were incorporated into PMMA and PEEK, in concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 10 wt%. Concentrations lower than 0.75 wt% of GO in PMMA and 1 wt% of GNP in PEEK resulted in increased flexural, tensile, compression strength, and hardness of these polymers. Electronic searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were performed for relevant literature published between January 1st 2015 and November 15th 2022. Ninety-three (93) English language in-vitro studies were included. The percentage of the mean bond strength change was recorded prior to and after artificial aging, and the weighted mean values and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Bonding protocols were classified based on the combination of MDP/non-MDP containing cement/primer and surface pretreatment, as well as the level of artificial aging performed. Alumina sandblasting (SA) was identified as the most frequently used surface pre-treatment while an insufficient number of studies was identified for each category of alternative surface treatments. The combination of MDP cement with tribochemical silica coating (TSC) or SA yielded more durable results after aging, while the application of SA and TSC improved bond durability when a non-MDP cement and a non-MDP primer were used. The aim of this study was to systematically review the profiles of the TA and <em>PAX9</em> variants and establish their genotype-phenotype correlation. Forty articles were eligible for 178 patients and 61 mutations (26 in frame and 32 null mutations). <em>PAX9</em> mutations predominantly affected molars, mostly the second molar, and the mandibular first premolar was the least affected. More missing teeth were found in the maxilla than the mandible, and with null mutations than in-frame mutations. The number of missing teeth was correlated with the locations of the in-frame mutations with the C-terminus mutations demonstrating the fewest missing teeth. The null mutation location did not influence the number of missing teeth. Null mutations in all locations predominantly affected molars. For the in-frame mutations, a missing second molar was commonly associated with mutations in the highly conserved paired DNA-binding domain, particularly the linking peptide (100% prevalence). In contrast, C-terminus mutations were rarely associated with missing second molars and anterior teeth, but were commonly related to an absent second premolar. These finding indicate that the mutation type and position contribute to different degrees of loss of <em>PAX9</em> function that further differentially influences the manifestations of TA. Besides causal therapy, patients are treated with acupuncture, but efficacy in acute dental pain is still not clarified. We aimed to evaluate results of recent research to estimate the efficacy of acupuncture compared to pain-relieving approaches in treatment of acute dental pain. A systematic review of controlled trials being published between database inception and 2020 were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture (alone or as complementary therapy) compared to local anesthesia or conventional analgesic medications in acute dental pain (intraoperatively and postoperatively) and to clarify whether acupuncture reduces the use of postoperative analgesic medications. Of 1672 publications, 23 publications met the inclusion criteria. From these, 11 randomized controlled trials (n = 668) reported on the efficacy of acupuncture on postoperative acute dental pain. Patients, who received acupuncture, showed lower pain scores postoperatively compared to sham acupuncture (Relative Risk −0.77, 95% Confidence interval −1.52 to −0.03). Although it has been reported that these patients are increasingly developing medical emergencies during their dental treatments, many dental providers still do not possess the skills to manage medical emergencies appropriately. Simulation training is essential to improve this situation however, there is no report describing how to conduct an effective simulation in detail for dental office medical emergencies. The purpose of this review is to provide information on simulations that is effective and practical. The authors will highlight the key characteristics for providing effective simulation trainings, such as the selection of simulators, simulation locations, instructors, debriefings, methods for evaluating educational effectiveness, and the use of telesimulation as a method for simulation training due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, this review provides recommendations on tailoring an ideal simulation training course for those who wish to create one. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the evidence regarding the use of probiotics as an adjunct to NSPT in patients with periodontitis at a clinical, microbiological and immunological level.</p></div><div><h3>Data/sources</h3><p>A comprehensive search to identify clinical studies investigating the use of probiotics as an adjunct to NSPT in patients treated for periodontitis was performed. The data were grouped according to probiotic strain, frequency, form and duration of the probiotic intake.</p></div><div><h3>Study selection</h3><p>A total of 25 articles were included, all articles analysed clinical parameters, 10 included also microbiological findings and only 4 had immunological findings. The difference in probing depth (PD) between the test and the control group was statistically significant in favour of the test group when the probiotics were in the form of lozenges, administered twice a day and when the strain was <em>L. reuteri</em>. In terms of Clinical Attachment Level (CAL) gain the difference was statistically significant in the short and in the medium term but not in the long term. Successful application of this approach avoids the need for further and more extensive treatment. In order to ensure a complete pulp healing with the placement of restorative materials, a mineralized tissue barrier must form to protect the pulp from microbial invasion. The formation of mineralized tissue barrier can only be induced when there is a significant reduction in pulp inflammation and infection. Consequently, promoting the healing of pulp inflammation may provide a favorable therapeutic opportunity to maintain the sustainability of DPC treatment. Mineralized tissue formation was observed as the favorable reaction of exposed pulp tissue against a variety of dental biomaterials utilized for DPC. This observation reveals an intrinsic capacity of pulp tissue for healing. Therefore, this review focuses on the DPC and its healing procedure as well as the materials used for DPC treatment and their mechanisms of action to promote pulpal healing. Additionally, it is one of the key regulators of inflammation, and controls the differentiation and function of different cells. Moreover, it was found to be involved in skeletal development and bone remodeling process. This review provides an overview of the involvement of the Notch signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of alveolar bone resorption in different forms of pathological conditions such as apical periodontitis, periodontal disease, and peri-implantitis. <em>In vitro</em> and in vivo evidence have confirmed the involvement of Notch signaling in alveolar bone homeostasis. Nonetheless, Notch signaling system, along with complex network of different biomolecules are involved in pathological process of bone resorption in apical periodontitis, periodontitis, and peri-implantitis. In this regard, there is a substantial interest to control the activity of this pathway in the treatment of disorders associated with its dysregulation. This review provides knowledge on Notch signaling and outlines its functions in alveolar bone homeostasis and alveolar bone resorption.
