Then, SBR‐g‐VTES/SiO 2 composites were prepared without a silane coupling agent. The effect of various reaction conditions on the grafted yield, properties, and morphology of SBR‐g‐VTES was investigated, and the influence of different silica amounts on the properties of SBR‐g‐VTES/SiO 2 composites was also discussed. The polymerization process conformed to the characteristics of active/controllable. The reaction condition SBR/CuBr 2 /TPMA/VC (100.00/0.0010/0.0015/0.30) was chosen. The tensile strength of SBR‐g‐VTES reached 4.20 MPa, and the tear strength reached 40.00 MPa. When the amount of silica was 30 wt%, the bound rubber, tensile strength, tear strength, and hardness of SBR‐g‐VTES/SiO 2 composites reached 78%, 12.30 MPa, 97 MPa, and 91 shore A, respectively. The Akron abrasion is 0.03 cm 3 ; a good balance between the wet sliding resistance and the low rolling resistance of the material can be realized. Meanwhile, SEM analysis results showed that the compatibility between silica and the rubber matrix was greatly improved by grafting VTES; SiO 2 was uniformly dispersed in the SBR matrix with a regular round shape.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 3","pages":"2749-2761"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional gamma‐ray protection materials, primarily composed of lead‐based polymers, exhibit poor flexibility and toxic properties, among other limitations. These materials restrict personnel movement and may lead to health issues with prolonged use due to their toxicity. In this study, we developed a flexible composite material with favorable mechanical properties, fatigue resistance, and excellent radiation protection capabilities by incorporating micron‐sized bismuth (Bi) into natural rubber through an open‐mill mixing process. We characterized the effects of Bi content on the microstructure, vulcanization behavior, mechanical properties, and radiation shielding performance of the composite. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to examine the microstructure, revealing that Bi was uniformly dispersed within the natural rubber matrix. By investigating the vulcanization behavior, we have achieved excellent mechanical properties. The tensile strength of a filler content of 85% can reach 7.61 MPa, and it maintains excellent puncture resistance after 1000 cycles of 100% elongation, with the deformation remaining at around 7%. This composite achieved a radiation shielding efficiency of 70.0%, corresponding to a lead equivalent of 0.290 mmPb under 118 keV x‐rays. Compared to other lead‐free rubber‐based radiation protection materials available in the market, its radiation protection performance is significantly enhanced.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 4","pages":"3077-3087"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147917289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we employed ultrasound and ultra‐low‐temperature freezing technology to pretreat bamboo fiber (BF), resulting in a carrier with significantly enhanced specific surface area and pore volume to effectively improve the loading capacity of cinnamon essential oil (CEO). Poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) was used as a matrix; the BFs/PBAT/CEO film was produced by utilizing melt extrusion and blow molding processes. The addition of BF not only served as a carrier for CEO but also significantly accelerated the film's degradation. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) were employed to investigate the morphology, structure, and sustained release of the CEO. The pretreated BF has a significant increase in surface area (20.37 m 2 /g) and pore volume (0.1619 cm 3 /g). Moreover, the BFs/PBAT/CEO film has a higher loading capacity (2.6%) for CEO compared to untreated BF via the vacuum‐assisted physical loading. The produced films have irregular shapes and embossment on the surface, representing an excellent Tensile Strength (TS) (31.003 MPa) and Elongation at Break (EAB) (376.599%). Meanwhile, the flexible films show outstanding antimicrobial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in contact as well as non‐contact conditions. This study proposes an environmentally benign modification strategy featuring mild reaction conditions and high efficiency, aiming to enhance both the interfacial bonding capacity between CF and epoxy resin matrices and the resultant mechanical performance. The metal polyphenol networks (MPN) were synthesized through coordination between tannic acid (TA) and Fe 3+ ions, which were subsequently co‐deposited with polyethyleneimine (PEI) via phenol‐amine conjugation to construct a hybrid MPN/PEI coating on fiber surfaces. The effect of the mass ratio of MPN to PEI on the deposition process was investigated. Maximum interfacial enhancement was achieved at an optimal MPN:PEI mass ratio of 1:2, as evidenced by comprehensive characterization. The interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), interfacial shear strength (IFSS), flexural strength, and transverse fiber bundles tensile strength (TFBT) of the composites were 84.17 MPa, 81.27 MPa, 1215.68 MPa, and 38.62 MPa, respectively, which were increased by 52.15%, 66.71%, 126.89%, and 89.97%, respectively, compared to the untreated CF composites. First, layered double hydroxide (LDH/hydrotalcite) nanosheets were electrostatically assembled onto aramid nanofibers (ANF) to construct a reinforced LDH@ANF heterostructure. Then, a multifunctional copolymer (H‐P) was synthesized via surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization using sodium p‐styrene sulfonate (SSS) as both monomer and emulsifying agent. The integration of LDH@ANF as a nano‐reinforcement phase into the H‐P matrix yielded stable nanocomposite emulsions (LDH@ANF/H‐P) with exceptional leather finishing capabilities. The nanocomposite coating simultaneously endowed sheepskin with superior abrasion resistance (COF: 0.13), hydrophobicity (contact angle: 108° ± 2.9°), thermal insulation (thermal conductivity: 0.073 W/m K) and flame retardancy. Compared to pure H‐P film, the tensile strength and elongation at break of the LDH@ANF/H‐P film increased by 5.32 MPa and 377.28%, respectively, attributed to the synergistic effects of LDH nanosheets and ANF. Moreover, the pure H‐P exhibited 38% higher abrasion resistance than commercial NP‐87 polymer, while the nanocomposite coating further reduced the surface abrasion by 68% through hierarchical energy dissipation mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 4","pages":"3182-3195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Systematic investigations reveal that CB significantly boosts the dielectric loss factor of PPS‐based composites, thereby enhancing their microwave absorption capacity. However, it also compromises impedance matching. In contrast, the incorporation of HGB not only optimizes impedance matching but also introduces additional internal interfaces and scattering centers, which play a crucial role in further improving microwave absorption. The combined effects of CB and HGB are particularly evident in the PPS/CB 15%/ HGB composite, which achieves exceptional microwave absorption performance, with a minimum reflection loss of −21.58 dB at a thickness of 2.8 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth exceeding 4 GHz. Although incorporating biofiber can improve the tensile strength of PLA, achieving satisfactory toughness is still difficult. The introduction of poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) (PBAT) offers a promising solution for toughening; however, ensuring the ideal dispersion of both PBAT and reinforcing fibers within the PLA matrix continues to pose significant technical challenges. Herein, we present an effective strategy for fabricating PLA/PBAT‐based composites with high strength, high toughness, thermal stability, and biodegradability. Chitin micro‐nanofibers were produced via energy‐efficient stirring and chemically treated to yield modified chitin micro‐nanofibers (KCHs). The obtained KCHs were subsequently melt‐blended with PBAT and PLA to prepare the ternary KCH/PLA/PBAT composites. The KCHs synergistically combined the advantages of chitin nanofibers (e.g., high specific surface area and aspect ratio) with those of chitin microfibers (energy‐saving properties and processability). Notably, the surface modification of KCHs significantly enhanced interfacial compatibility, resulting in improved properties of KCH/PLA/PBAT. As a result, the developed KCH/PLA/PBAT composites exhibited good mechanical properties (tensile strength: ~35.0 MPa, toughness: ~8.47 MJ/m 3 ), improved thermal stability (the linear coefficients of thermal expansion: ~171.5 × 10 −6 /K), and biodegradability. Additionally, KCH/PLA/PBAT could be easily molded into packaging products, such as spoons and knives, which can be considered promising biodegradable alternatives to disposable plastics.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 3","pages":"2340-2348"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirect/10.1002/pc.70285","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, six laminated SMPCs with different lay‐up sequences were prepared using weft plain knitted fabrics (K), rib knitted fabrics (R), woven fabrics (W) and the epoxy‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) to study the synergistic effect of the knitted/woven hybrid structure on the shape memory performance and mechanical durability of SMPC. The results show that SMPCs have a high shape fixation ratio and a good shape recovery ratio. When the knitted fabrics are laminated in the outer layers and the woven fabrics are in the middle layers, the shape recovery properties of SMPCs are good, and the SMPCs after shape memory cycles have a low damage area of interface debonding. The KKKK SMPCs obtain the smallest recovery force, and the WWWW SMPCs have the largest recovery force of up to 4.4 N. Furthermore, after 1, 5, and 10 shape memory cycles, the flexural strength and modulus of SMPCs generally decrease, whereas the fracture strain of SMPCs increases. The addition of knittedstructure to wovenructure can improve the residual strength ratio of SMPCs after shape memory cycles. The hybridized lay‐up of knittedstructure and wovenructure endows the SMPCs with optimized shape memory performance, mechanical properties, and mechanical durability after shape memory cycles.
