The effects of this hybrid treatment on the bonding at the 7075 Al alloy/PEI thermoplastic layer interface and the mechanical performance of the welded joints are systematically investigated. Chemical etching created a micro‐nano rough surface that enhanced mechanical interlocking and increased hydroxyl group content from 12.7 mol% to 28.5 mol%. Subsequent silanization grafted amino (NH 2 ) groups onto the 7075 Al alloy surface, enabling hydrogen bonding with the PEI thermoplastic layer. Under the synergistic effects of mechanical interlocking and hydrogen bonding, interfacial bonding is significantly enhanced, increasing the lap shear strength (LSS) of the joint from 0.2 to 24.6 MPa. The fracture failure mode of the welded joint changes from the interfacial failure of the 7075 Al alloy and PEI thermoplastic layer to the interlaminar failure of carbon fiber tearing in the heating element.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 3","pages":"2314-2325"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147899376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite significant advances, the development of low‐cost, scalable, and reliable sensing platforms remains a major challenge. This study reports a novel fabrication method combining electrospinning to develop conducting filler‐based composites for strain sensing using carbon fiber (CF) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with post‐process dip coating. CF was incorporated into the TPU matrix to enhance electrical conductivity and strain sensitivity, with further improvements achieved through dip coating with poly (3, 4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): poly styrene sulfonate (PEDOT: PSS). The combination of electrospinning and dip coating offers a unique fabrication route that improves both structural and electrical properties. Process parameters such as feed rate, voltage, and needle‐to‐collector distance were optimized to produce homogeneous, nonwoven sheets. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy confirmed successful CF incorporation into TPU, with shifts observed in C–H stretching and carbonyl peaks. X‐ray Diffraction analysis revealed that CF acted as a heteronucleating agent, promoting TPU crystallization. Scanning Electron Microscopy images demonstrated improved surface morphology and electrical pathways due to CF and PEDOT: PSS incorporation. The 5% CF composite exhibited a conductivity of over 0.00085 S/m, with the strain sensor showing excellent performance in terms of reliability, repeatability, and stability. The results underscore the novelty of this work in integrating processing techniques and functional fillers, positioning the composite as a strong candidate for next‐generation wearable motion sensors and real‐time biomechanical monitoring devices.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 3","pages":"2193-2203"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, carbon fiber‐reinforced PEEK (CF‐PEEK) exhibits superior mechanical and tribological properties compared to pure PEEK. However, under dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) lubrication, the wear rate ( w ) of CF‐PEEK exceeds that of pure PEEK because the surface carbon fiber hinders the formation of a DPPC lubrication film. To solve this problem, the effects of texture parameters (2 diameters and 3 depth‐to‐diameter ratios) and lubricating media (water and DPPC) on the wear resistance of CF‐PEEK/Si 3 N 4 are systematically studied. Results show that almost all textures increase the w of CF‐PEEK under water media, with a maximum increase of 82%. Moreover, all textures under DPPC media reduce the w of CF‐PEEK, with an optimal reduction of 52%.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 2","pages":"1872-1880"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147914499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, in this study, ionic liquids (ILs) are combined with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), utilizing the cation–π and π–π interactions between ILs and graphene (G) to facilitate the incorporation of CNTs into the G layers, thereby achieving co‐dispersion assistance. Cobalt ferrite (CFO) is loaded onto G, which has the ability to be oriented on CFs under the influence of a magnetic field and is combined with CNTs to construct an “artery–vein” 3D structure. The uniformly dispersed and oriented 3D structure resulted in enhanced interfacial bonding, leading to a 71.06% improvement in the flexural properties of the prepared composites. Simultaneously, the constructed “artery–vein” 3D structure facilitates the efficient transport of phonons and electrons (“blood”). As a result, the thermal conductivity of the composite reached 2.1 W m −1 K −1 , representing a 101.9% improvement. At the same time, the electrical conductivity of the composite material in the orientation direction was 12.21 S/cm, and the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) reached 42.45 dB. Therefore, this composite material has a broad application prospect in the fields of aerospace manufacturing, thermal management materials, and EMI shielding materials.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 2","pages":"1565-1580"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to their tendency to aggregate within the thermoplastic matrix, overall performance improvements are limited. In order to address these issues, MWCNTs grafted with poly(bisphthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) (PBPESK@MWCNTs) were prepared by a diazotization reaction and then introduced into carbon fiber reinforced PBPESK (CF/PBPESK) composite laminates by dispersion in resin solution, which was immersed by CF to prepare prepregs, followed by a vacuum hot‐pressing process. The structural and morphological characterization of PBPESK@MWCNTs was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy. The storage modulus and glass transition temperature of CF/PBPESK composites have been improved to 146 GPa and 322°C, respectively. Furthermore, the flexural strength, flexural modulus, and interlaminar shear strength of PBPESK@MWCNTs/CF/PBPESK composite were increased by 42.3%, 44.6%, and 42.9%, up to 1696 MPa, 162 GPa, and 70 MPa, respectively. Finally, the mechanism of reinforcement of composites by the introduction of PBPESK@MWCNTs has been revealed by SEM. However, its low wear resistance limits its broader application. UHMWPE filled with nano‐silica (nano‐SiO 2 ) has been proven effective in improving its tribological properties, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Herein, the hydroxyl groups of nano‐SiO 2 were modified by the silane coupling agents 3‐methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (SiO 2(570) ) and 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (SiO 2(550) ), respectively. Then, they were filled into the UHMWPE. Frictional tests were conducted between the composites and ZCuSn 10 Zn 2 under water lubrication conditions. The results showed that the different interfacial interplay between nano‐SiO 2 and UHMWPE makes for distinct wear mechanisms. The SiO 2(550) ‐filled composite demonstrated a significant reduction in wear rate, attributable to its superior ability to restrict the movement of UHMWPE molecular chains. However, the friction coefficient increased for all composites due to the modified SiO 2 hindering the formation of a complete water film.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 2","pages":"1761-1776"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A novel sol‐gel‐film method was established for producing PBO nanofiber films, with an orthogonal experimental design employed to optimize the effects of PBO concentration and dissolution time on the mechanical properties. The optimal conditions (PBO concentration of 2.8 g/L and dissolution time of 40 h) yielded a tensile strength of 683 MPa and a Young's modulus of 12.05 GPa. Furthermore, PBO nanocomposite films incorporating silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were developed. The PBO/Ag nanocomposite film with 10% Ag NPs content exhibited notable mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 239 MPa and a Young's modulus of 5.91 GPa, and an exceptional electrical conductivity of 401.6 S/cm. The nanocomposite films also demonstrated enhanced hydrophobicity, UV resistance, antibacterial properties, and flame retardancy. Pressure sensors based on the PBO/Ag nanocomposite films showed high sensitivity and stability, whereas electric heaters exhibited remarkable heat resistance, rapid response times, and elevated heating temperatures. Additionally, a polyaniline (PANI) coating doped with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was synthesized on the PBO/Ag nanocomposite films, resulting in flexible PBO/Ag@PANI/CNT electrodes. These electrodes, with 30% CNTs, achieved an impressive areal capacitance of 6885.13 mF/cm 2 and maintained 82.67% of their initial capacitance after 5000 charge‐discharge cycles. However, achieving synergistic enhancements in mechanical properties (e.g., strength, toughness) alongside energy absorption capabilities remains a significant challenge in current research. This study utilizes oleic acid‐modified cellulose nanocrystals (OCNCs) to reinforce LCE through a dual‐linking mechanism that involves both physical entanglement and nanoscale cross‐linking sites, providing a novel solution to this problem. Mechanical tests indicate that the strength and energy‐absorbing properties of OCNCs‐doped LCE (OCNCs‐LCE) composites are enhanced by more than 10‐fold compared to pure LCE while maintaining tensile elasticity. Notably, the compressive strength of OCNCs‐LCE is significantly higher than that of pure LCE, with its maximum number of compression cycles exceeding 680, demonstrating excellent toughness and fatigue resistance. In addition, impact tests demonstrate that under the same impact energy, the energy absorption performance of OCNCs‐LCE is more than twice that of pure LCE. Vibration tests exhibit that OCNCs‐LCE shows superior internal damping. Falling steel ball impact tests further verify its practical ability to absorb impact energy and protect fragile items from damage.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 2","pages":"1632-1643"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147914580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, a series of poly(vinylidene fluoride‐trifluoroethylene‐chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF‐TrFE‐CTFE)) terpolymers are synthesized by using the hydrogenation method and are then compounded with the conductive filler graphene nanosheets (GR) to obtain GR/P(VDF‐TrFE‐CTFE) composites. Benefiting from the large specific surface area of GR, the interfacial polarization of GR/P(VDF‐TrFE‐CTFE) composite is significantly improved, contributing to a high maximum polarization (~2.35 μC/cm 2 ). As such, a maximum adiabatic temperature change (Δ T ) of ~4.22 K (at 320.6 K) is realized in GR/P(VDF‐TrFE‐CTFE) composite with 0.05 wt% GR at a low electric field of 50 MV/m, which is an improvement of 51.8% compared to the pure P(VDF‐TrFE‐CTFE) (Δ T is ~0.08 K at 320.5 K). In this study, we developed an inorganic TiO 2 film on carbon fiber surfaces via atomic layer deposition (ALD) as a coloration structure. Subsequently, an organic polyamide (PA) layer was successfully incorporated onto the TiO 2 ‐coated carbon fibers through surface modification to enhance interfacial bonding and compatibility between the carbon fiber and PA matrix. The results showed that the PA‐modified TiO 2 film demonstrates dual functionality, simultaneously achieving vivid structural coloration and enhancing interfacial performance with the PA matrix. The film thickness can be precisely tuned to produce primary colors like blue, green, and yellow by controlling the number of ALD cycles. The intrinsic bond strength (IBS) increased by 23.62% from 40.81 MPa of TiO 2 film‐coated carbon fiber (ACF) to 50.14 MPa of PA‐modified TiO 2 film‐coated carbon fiber (ASCF).
