This study introduces an innovative approach by incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) functionalized with hyperbranched epoxy (HPEP) to construct multi‐level micro/nano interfaces in AFRP composites. The grafting efficiency of HPEP onto CNTs was confirmed to be 14.14%, facilitating superior dispersion and interfacial bonding. Incorporating 2 wt% CNTs‐g‐HPEP into AFRP composites resulted in remarkable increases of 41.3% in flexural strength and 30.9% in interlaminar shear strength. These composites, featuring multi‐level micro/nano interfaces, demonstrated exceptional retention of mechanical properties after thermal aging. This enhancement is attributed to the synergistic reinforcement effect of CNTs‐g‐HPEP on the matrix‐fiber interface. The epoxy groups in CNTs‐g‐HPEP co‐cured with the polymer matrix, while the flexible hyperbranched chains enhanced the mechanical interlocking with AFs. They also show exceptional thermal‐oxidative mechanical performance, with high mechanical retention ratios after thermal aging. The thermal failure analysis indicated that with the increasing temperature, the failure mode of the AFRP composite gradually shifted from fiber‐matrix debonding to matrix degradation. This study provides a robust strategy for the design and development of next‐generation high‐performance AFRP composites, offering significant potential for applications in demanding environments.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 2","pages":"1676-1692"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147919902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the problem of polarization hysteresis needs to be effectively improved. Consequently, linear polymer polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was introduced into the PVDF blend, and PMMA could inhibit the polarization behavior of PVDF in the amorphous region, thus weakening the local polarization field and reducing the coherent coupling between ferroelectric domains. In addition, high dielectric constant barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) nanoparticles were introduced to enhance the depolarization field inside the crystalline phase, and the synergistic effect of PMMA and BaTiO 3 improved the polarization hysteresis and dielectric properties of PVDF. Preparation of PVDF/PMMA/BaTiO 3 films was undertaken through the utilization of a spin‐coating process, and the film thicknesses were uniform without obvious aggregation. The maximum discharge energy density of the 30 wt.% BaTiO 3 nanocomposite film was 1.87 J/cm 3 , and the dielectric loss (tanδ) can be stabilized at 0.12 and below. At 100 Hz, the E b and tanδ of the 30 wt.% BaTiO 3 nanocomposite film were 1400 kV/cm and 0.12, respectively. However, previous studies reported unsatisfactory overall performance of PTW in terms of optical and light response time, posing significant challenges for its applications in areas such as photochromic lenses, smart doors, and windows. A transparent wood composite exhibiting rapid photochromic performance was fabricated by infusing delignified wood with a pre‐polymerized methyl methacrylate (PMMA) solution containing microcapsules of 1,3,3‐trimethylindoline‐6′‐(1‐piperidinyl)spirooxazine and 3,3‐dimethyl‐3H‐naphthaleno[2,1‐b] pyran. Microcapsules were uniformly dispersed within the wood cell cavities and copolymerized with PMMA, thereby endowing the material with superior optical transparency (73%), enhanced mechanical strength (30.2 MPa), excellent photosensitivity (1 s response time, 390 s recovery time), and effective anti‐glare performance. Compared with traditional photochromic materials, the composites developed in this study exhibit not only enhanced color‐changing response speed but also improved stability, thereby ensuring their reliability for long‐term applications (50 cycles). Owing to these distinctive properties, the photochromic transparent wood composite is poised for broad use in intelligent windows, energy‐efficient buildings, privacy panels, and dynamic interior design, color‐changing lenses, automotive and aerospace, solar energy and light management, and other intelligent optical devices.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 1","pages":"458-469"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147901806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sizing agents are pivotal for enhancing the wettability and interfacial adhesion of CF surfaces. However, most linear‐structured sizing agents fail to fulfill the interfacial performance requirements of composite materials. Inspired by the rhizome structure, a bio‐based hyperbranched waterborne polyurethane sizing agent (WPU‐M) with a hyperbranched structure was synthesized successfully to address this limitation. A key intermediate, polyether–polyester polyol (MEP), was first synthesized via the esterification of L‐malic acid and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The hyperbranched architecture of WPU‐M arises from the multifunctionality of L‐malic acid, which facilitates the formation of a highly branched structure during the polyurethane synthesis. When WPU‐M is applied to carbon fiber/epoxy resin (CF/EP) composites, its distinctive biomimetic rhizome structure significantly enhances its interfacial properties. Compared with the untreated composites, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) increased by 71.20% and 39.16%, respectively. The biomimetic rhizome architecture of WPU‐M not only effectively mitigated microscopic defects on the CF surface but also amplified the density of polar functional groups, thereby strengthening the intermolecular interactions between CF and EP. This study presents a novel approach for optimizing the interfacial design of high‐performance carbon fiber composites.","PeriodicalId":510403,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Composites","volume":"47 1","pages":"862-875"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In industry, it is often combined with various organic or inorganic fillers to produce composites. This study designed and synthesized four readily available norbornenyl‐based silane coupling agents based on nadic anhydride and isocyanate siloxane to modify nanosilica. The modified nanosilicas were then stably dispersed in DCPD to prepare a series of norbornenyl‐based nanosilica/PDCPD composites. However, the inadequate interfacial compatibility between bamboo fibers (BFs) and the polymer matrix substantially undermines the mechanical properties of BPCs. Although the incorporation of cost‐effective and widely available inorganic CaCO 3 can improve certain properties, its high surface polarity results in poor dispersion within the BFs‐polymer composite system, thus limiting its efficacy as a reinforcing agent. To address these challenges, this study introduced environmentally friendly modifiers through the synergistic combination of KH‐570/DL‐malic acid (DL) and sodium citrate (SC)/DL for the surface functionalization of CaCO 3 . This innovative strategy effectively transformed CaCO 3 from a conventional “inorganic filler” into an active “interfacial compatibilizer” which was processed via melt‐blending with BFs and the polypropylene (PP) matrix to optimize interfacial compatibility. The results demonstrated that at a modifier dosage equivalent to 5% of the mass of CaCO 3 , with optimal KH:DL and SC:DL ratios of 5:5 and 4:6, the KH/DL‐C10F40 and SC/DL‐C10F40 groups demonstrated enhanced mechanical properties and processability compared to C10F40. Specifically, there were observed improvements in tensile strength by 20.67% and 20.01%, flexural strength by 6.94% and 4.43%, impact strength by 19.60% and 27.42%, and melt flow index by 143.79% and 124.85%, respectively.
