Being the most populous country of the world, India has achieved steady economic growth and the production of the foodgrains has increased however 21.25 per cent of the population lives on less than US$1.90 a day. Over the past seven decades the growth in the area and production of the foodgrains was 0.19 % and 2.37 % per annum respectively. The per capita availability of the foodgrains has increased to 185.4 Kg per annum with growth rate of 0.15 per cent from 1951 to 2021. The availability of the foodgrains has increased due to the improvement in the various government schemes like Targeted Pubic Distribution System (TDPS) with the joint efforts of World food programs. Further the country has achieved a lot in terms of the foodgrains export as it increased to Rs. 3759.09 billion during 2021-22 from Rs. 60.13 billion during 1990-91. The country still suffers from hunger and malnutrition. The reason being the poor people still have limited access to these commodities in the country. Increasing the rural and urban employment along with the self employment can increase the access to the food. Thus government needs to focus more on the food accessibility and make available the nutrition rich food to the population.

Since plant health is intricately linked to soil health, managing soil in a manner that conserves and enhances soil biota can significantly improve crop yield and quality. The rhizosphere, the zone directly influenced by plant roots, harbours high populations of active microorganisms and plays a vital role in plant-microbe interactions. One of the most crucial symbiotic relationships in the rhizosphere is between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). AMF form mutualistic associations with the roots of various plant species, including major crops and contribute to defence against soil-borne pathogens, nutrient cycling and soil aggregation. Glomalin, a glycoprotein secreted by AMF, plays a crucial role in soil aggregation, stability and carbon sequestration. It enhances soil structure, binds with soil particles, stabilizes aggregates and promotes water infiltration and retention. It also plays a role in sequestering toxic metals, reducing their availability to plants and mitigating their harmful effects on soil biota. Managing glomalin in soil involves practices such as minimizing tillage to preserve the hyphal network, maintaining living roots through cover crops to sustain fungal colonization and optimizing nutrient inputs to support fungal activity without overloading the soil. AMF and glomalin play pivotal roles in agricultural sustainability and soil ecosystem functioning, highlighting the importance of conserving and enhancing these beneficial microbial associations for improved soil health and crop productivity.

Newer technologies like development of designer eggs were exploited beyond their traditional food value. Designer eggs are those that have modified contents from standard egg according to the consumers’ preference or according to current market demand. The present study to evaluate the influence of vitamin D3 enrichment by UVB radiation and dietary zinc supplementation on egg production and feed consumption in layer birds was conducted at Department of Veterinary Physiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, for a period of 12 weeks from 01 February 2020 to 01 May 2020. A total of sixty-four laying hens, belonging to crossbred (White Leghorn N strain and Desi) housed in animal house attached to the department were used in the experiment. The treatments of this study included a control diet (according to BIS 2007) fed group (group I), a group with zinc supplementation alone (group II), a group with UVB exposure without zinc supplementation (group III) and a group with both UVB exposure and zinc supplementation (group IV). The four treatments were tested in 28-week-old crossbred hens in a completely randomised experimental design. Each of the experimental treatments had four replicates with four birds with all standard managemental conditions. The statistical analysis showed that egg production was not significantly affected by UVB light exposure and dietary zinc supplementation. However, the effect of UVB exposure and zinc supplementation via feed was highly significant (p≤0.01) for feed consumption. The highest overall mean feed intake (113.18±0.14 g/day) was recorded with those birds exposed to UVB and fed with inorganic zinc. While the lowest value (107.17±0.24 g/day) was recorded in group of birds fed with zinc supplementation in diet without UVB exposure. As a future prospective we can study the egg production rate and feed consumption rate in layer chicken that are intended for different types of designer egg production.

The study has focused on the relationship between the State and Third Sector Organizations (TSOs) in delivering services to impoverished rural community.\u0000Study Design: Mention the design of the study here.\u0000Place and Duration of Study: Thirty TSOs were chosen from Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Tumakuru districts, encompassing a variety of entities including NGOs, SHGs, and primary-level cooperatives, which collectively constitute the third sector comprising charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups supporting local communities. The data pertains to the year 2021-22.\u0000Methodology: To achieve the specific objectives of the study, descriptive statistics were employed to assess the service delivery dynamics between the State and TSOs.\u0000Results: The findings revealed that during the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Third Sector Organizations (TSOs) have played a crucial role in extending support to communities in various spheres. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, TSOs extended educational support to 1,687 individuals, representing 2.06 per cent of the total beneficiaries. A significant majority (83.33%) of these organisations actively participated in implementation of Government-supported projects, maintaining a two-way relationship with the government (73.33%). The organisations had also taken financial help from Government in the form of funds (70 %), grants (33.33 %), and subsidies (33.33 %). The study also revealed that majority (66.67 %) of the organizations were having political interference in TSO. Furthermore, a substantial majority (90%) of the organizations anticipated timely financial support from the Government.\u0000Conclusion: The study underscores the indispensable role of Third Sector Organizations (TSOs) in bolstering impoverished rural communities, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite challenges, TSOs actively engage in government-supported projects, fostering a symbiotic relationship. However, concerns persist regarding political interference within TSOs, highlighting the need for safeguarding their autonomy. Overall, the findings emphasize the necessity of consistent and timely financial support from the government to sustain TSO initiatives effectively. The study recommended the necessity of providing punctual financial support from the government to encourage TSOs in enhancing their service delivery to the rural poor.
