Efficiency is a key design parameter since it determines not only the appliance performance but also its environmental impact, with significant socio-political implications. However, it is not easy to determine and compare the actual power converter efficiency operating under highly variable conditions typical of IH. This paper proposes an averaged efficiency parameter elaborated based on technical and typical IH usage conditions that offers a useful value to compare power converters operating under realistic operation conditions. The proposed parameter has been evaluated in some of the most significant power converter topologies used in reported state-of-the-art induction heating systems.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"76 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2024-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139755263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to the temperature and field level dependent physical properties of the material, the magnetic behavior of the load is captured by means of some kind of non-linearimpedance boundary condition which simplifies the computational cost of the simulation. The numerical results show the critical behavior around Curie temperature. Finally, a comparison between several simulation results and experimental measurements are provided to assess the usefulness of the proposed electro-thermal simulation.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2024-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139755109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Performance evaluation of homogenization techniques for proximity losses in PCB coils applied to inductive devices","authors":"Alexis Narváez, Claudio Carretero, Jesús Acero","doi":"10.3233/jae-230184","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3233/jae-230184","url":null,"abstract":"Energy efficiency is the primary objective in optimal design of inductive power components. This goal is totally aligned with the minimization of power losses in the coils. Typically, coils have been constructed by wire winding but, more recently, the utilization of printed circuit board (PCB) constructions has become more common due to their advantages, i. e. low profile and ease of fabrication, among others. At the operating frequencies of magnetic power devices, multi-conductor cabling with litz structure is required to reduce losses. PCB loss optimization procedure involves determining the number and size of the tracks. Numerical simulation is a very powerful tool to obtain the parameters of magnetic devices. However, including the internal structure of multi-track wiring in the numerical simulation implies a very high computational cost and a low accuracy of the results, because the size of the tracks is very small. Techniques of homogenization of the cabling are used to overcome such difficulty, disregarding the internal structure in order to determine the fields in the system and their electrical equivalent by means of computational simulation. The coil losses are further determined on the basis of the characteristics of the cabling as well as of the surrounding fields. The preceding procedure has proven to be suitable for cables composed of strands of circular cross-section, but should be adjusted to apply to tracks of rectangular cross-section. In this paper, different homogenization techniques for PCB coils have been proposed and evaluated. A highly symmetric reference system is selected to reduce the computational cost of numerical modeling, but the conclusions can be applied to more complicated geometries without loss of generality. Finally, the results of the different homogenization techniques have been validated by comparison with experimental results.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2024-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140198671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a new NDT technology, electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is widely applied for NDT of conductive structural components due to its advantages of coupling-free and high adaptability. In this paper, numerical simulations are conducted to study the wave propagation and interaction with delamination defects in TBCs inspected with a Rayleigh wave EMAT of the Lorentz force mechanism. Based on the numerical results, the wave structure in TBC, wave conversion at delamination defect, time domain EMAT signals, and its B-scan images are evaluated and the feasibility of Rayleigh wave EMAT to inspect delamination in TBCs was theoretically clarified.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"51 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138949894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach is applicable to pieces with translational or rotational symmetry. A Fourier series decomposition of the solution is introduced in the direction of symmetry, which converts the original 3D numerical problem into a series of independent 2D problems. The decomposition has significant benefits in terms of computational time and numerical noise reduction, and is inherently parallelisable.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"148 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139170956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue is that the performance and some constraints on the inputs are provided but the solution to the design problem is non-unique. Additionally, conventionally, at the start of the design process, the information on potential solutions needs to be generated quickly so that a designer can make effective decisions before moving on to detailed performance analysis, but the amount of information that can be obtained from simple analysis tools is limited. Machine learning may be able to assist by increasing the amount of information available at the early stages of the design process. This is not a new concept, in fact it has been considered for several decades but has always been limited by the computational power available. Recent advances in machine learning might allow for the creation of a more effective “sizing” stage of the design process, thus reducing the cost of generating a final design. The goal of this paper is to review some of the work in applying artificial intelligence to the design and analysis of electromagnetic devices and to discuss what might be possible by considering some examples of the use of machine learning in several tools used in conventional design, which have been considered over the past three decades.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138683997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to suppress electromagnetic disturbance and improve the electromagnetic compatibility of secondary equipment, the electric field’s spatial coupling characteristics and distribution law should be mastered. Therefore, a method for predicting the spatial electric field generated by substation switching operation based on the Atomic Orbital Search-Graph Convolution Network- Long and Short-Term Memory (AOS-GCN-LSTM) model is presented to deal with this problem. First, the GCN is used to construct graph data according to node characteristics and topology information. The feature selection uses the Maximum Information Coefficient (MIC) to extract the spatial correlation of the adjacent field source radiation. At the same time, the LSTM is used to capture the temporal correlation characteristics of different position field strengths in space. Then, the AOS is used to optimize the model with a hyperparameter. In addition, the simulation data of the full-wave simulation model of the spatial electric field generated by switch operation in a 220 kV GIS substation is an example of verification. The results show that the prediction error of the proposed method is below 3%, and it has strong adaptability to the application environment and good prediction performance.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138684003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first introduce the energy based hysteresis model and the parameters which are to be identified. Then we show how the model can benefit from automatic differentiation. The on-load magnetic field is predicted according to the surface-current method of permanent magnet, subdomain model and the superposition principle. BEMF and torque are calculated based on the magnetic field. The results show that THD of open-circuit and on-load radial flux density in the SMPMVM with concentric magnet poles is smaller than that in the conventional SMPMVM with eccentric magnet poles. 30th and 50th harmonic orders are obvious between two motors. Moreover, the peak cogging torque of the motor with concentric magnet poles is almost six times of the peak cogging torque of motor with eccentric magnet poles. The finite-element and experimental results confirm that the developed analytical method has high accuracy for predicting the magnetic field, BEMF, cogging torque and on-load electro-magnetic torque of SMPMVM with different shape of magnet.","PeriodicalId":50340,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics","volume":" 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138493458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
