Current systems collect extensive user data; this enables manipulative advertising and behavior control, fosters self-censorship, and diminishes authentic self-expression – especially among marginalized communities. The unchecked development of immersive platforms threatens to create oppressive environments due to power imbalances and a lack of regulation. This paper addresses the urgent need for emancipatory design guidelines to prevent such outcomes. By integrating critical theory with Participatory Design, we propose Emancipatory Participatory Immersive Platforms. These platforms involve users in their design and dismantle oppressive structures through four emancipatory tools (i.e., agency, dialogue, inclusion, and rationality), substantiated by eight actionable design principles. Our framework aims to empower users, promote inclusivity, and ensure rational engagement – and thereby foster immersive platforms that maintain functional benefits while enhancing freedom and equity.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50037,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Strategic Information Systems","volume":"34 4","pages":"Article 101910"},"PeriodicalIF":8.7,"publicationDate":"2025-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144134582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We provide insights on how sports digitalisation is currently understood in the IS literature when examined from a stakeholder perspective. Our analysis identifies the key stakeholders involved in sports, the competition stages (i.e., before, during, or after), the nature of digitalisation in sports, and the key outcomes on which the literature focuses (behavioural, cognitive, and performance-related). Our analysis also points out several gap areas in the extant literature: the lack of attention paid to non-competing stakeholders (e.g., managers, referees, spectators) and the behavioural impact of digitalisation on stakeholders during competitions; and the current focus on analysing the effect of a single digitalisation solution on a single stakeholder. Building on these findings, we propose three future directions to advance research on sports digitalisation. First, future research needs to examine the effect of digitalisation on an eco-system of sports stakeholders. Second, the use of naturalistic reality images as a data source would enhance research during competition. Last, future studies need to consider the blending of borrowed (behavioural and cognitive) theories and novel digitally-enhanced concepts to strengthen the theoretical foundations of sports digitalisation in Information Systems.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50037,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Strategic Information Systems","volume":"34 2","pages":"Article 101905"},"PeriodicalIF":8.7,"publicationDate":"2025-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144124490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, machine learning (ML) is changing how BA systems create value, but research streams on ML and BA have yet to come to a shared view on process-level value creation. In this theoretical literature review, we draw on the Information Value Chain (IVC) to synthesize 176 articles from top journals and present a model of process-level value creation from BA systems. We contextualize and extend the IVC with six distinct value creation paths, explain how the characteristics of ML-based BA systems change value creation paths, and propose a research agenda.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50037,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Strategic Information Systems","volume":"34 2","pages":"Article 101902"},"PeriodicalIF":8.7,"publicationDate":"2025-05-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143906904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, a significant body of research on the DT phenomenon has accumulated in recent years. However, while existing research highlights the processual nature of the phenomenon, our theoretical understanding of DT processes remains fragmented. Against this background, the present study sets out to take stock of and critically review the IS literature on DT processes. To do so, we build on previous research to conceptualize DT as a network of interrelated processes, and draw on two conceptual frameworks from outside IS to guide our assessment of the current state of research. On this basis, we define a set of three review criteria, with a particular focus on (1) the specific DT processes studied and their interplay, as well as both (2) the styles of and (3) the time-related considerations involved in DT process theorizing. We then use these criteria to assess each study in our sample of 48 studies published in premier IS journals. The results of our critical review contribute to prior research by providing context-specific insights into the network of DT processes, as well as by highlighting key shortcomings in our understanding of this network along with numerous opportunities for ‘stronger’ DT process theorizing. Moreover, by linking the identified shortcomings and opportunities, we propose a set of six promising directions that equip IS scholars with actionable guidance for future research on DT processes and related theorizing efforts.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50037,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Strategic Information Systems","volume":"34 2","pages":"Article 101900"},"PeriodicalIF":8.7,"publicationDate":"2025-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143791658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is little knowledge on the impact of user participation in self-governance, particularly regarding users’ content contributions. Drawing on social cognitive theory, this study examined the impact of users’ participation in self-governance on knowledge contribution in an online Q&amp;A community, as well as how the user’s social status and activity level may modify this impact. We obtained a rich sample from a major online Q&amp;A community in China and tested our hypotheses employing multiple identification methods and robustness tests. We found that participation in self-governance decreases the quantity but increases the quality of users’ knowledge contributions. In addition, users’ social status and activity level were found to weaken the effect of participation in self-governance on knowledge contribution. The insights derived from this study are crucial for online communities heavily relying on user-generated content. By understanding the mechanics of the impact of user participation in self-governance, online communities can improve their content management strategies and strike a trade-off between knowledge generation and moderation.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50037,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Strategic Information Systems","volume":"34 3","pages":"Article 101889"},"PeriodicalIF":8.7,"publicationDate":"2025-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143420642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":2,"RegionCategory":"管理学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
