Nuestro analisis -centrado en la observacion integral de los elementos que componian los ajuares funerarios del cementerio de Quitor 6 en San Pedro de Atacama- arroja luz sobre la renovada importancia alcanzada por dicha industria durante el periodo Medio. Al mismo tiempo, revela detalles hasta aqui no conocidos sobre la especializacion y distribucion diferencial de la manufactura lapidaria al interior de la sociedad atacamena. Mediante la aplicacion de la experimentacion arqueologica se ha establecido la funcion original de un artefacto de madera, el cual constituia la base o soporte utilizado especificamente para perforar cuentas. Se presenta ademas nueva informacion acerca de ciertos gestos rituales de la funebria asociados al mineral de cobre, datos que refuerzan el vinculo especial que durante miles de anos existio entre dicho mineral, las comunidades atacamenas (ayllus) y los objetos ofrendados a sus ancestros o divinidades. Consideramos que el conjunto de evidencias constituye una base solida para plantear que la poblacion enterrada en el cementerio Quitor 6 pudo corresponder a un grupo especializado en la manufactura lapidaria en mineral de cobre. EnglishAbstract: This article presents the results of contextual research and archaeological experimentation carried out in relation to the social and ritual role played by the manufacture of copper ore objects (beads, pendants and plaques, mainly), and their various contexts of use in the Atacama salt flat for the Middle Horizon (ca. 400-1000AD). Our analysis - focused on the comprehensive observation of the elements that made up the burial offerings of Quitor 6 cemetery in San Pedro de Atacama - throws light on the renewed importance gained by this industry during the Middle Horizon. At the same time, it reveals hitherto unknown details about the specialization and differential distribution of lapidary manufacture within the Atacamenian society. Through the application of archaeological experimentation, the original function of a wooden artifact has been established, which turns out to be the base or support used specifically for the drilling of beads. New information is also presented about certain funerary ritual gestures associated with copper ore, data that reinforce the special bond that existed for thousands of years between the mineral, the Atacamenian communities (ayllus) and the objects offered to their ancestors or deities. We consider that this set of evidence strongly suggests that the population buried in Quitor 6 cemetery could correspond to a group specialized in copper ore lapidary manufacture.","PeriodicalId":46548,"journal":{"name":"Chungara-Revista De Antropologia Chilena","volume":"255 1","pages":"397-422"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73120986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Se propone evaluar y discutir las variaciones en las practicas mortuorias y en el uso del espacio (costa-interior) por parte de grupos cazadores-recolectores. Se presentan los resultados de las modalidades de entierro, analisis cuantitativos, tafonomicos, y sexo-etarios. En los sitios localizados en el interior los restos estan muy fragmentados y afectados por importantes factores tafonomicos (e.g., meteorizacion, abrasion sedimentaria), mientras que en el sector costero, la completitud anatomica es mayor, y los resultados tafonomicos indican estabilidad en la historia depositacional. La modalidad de entierro en los sitios costeros durante el Holoceno Medio habria sido primaria, en tanto esta no pudo ser determinada en el interior. Por su parte, para el Holoceno Tardio inicial, mientras en la costa se registraron inhumaciones primarias, en el interior se observaron modalidades secundarias. La cronologia obtenida indica la reocupacion sistematica durante el Holoceno Medio y Tardio inicial tanto de los sectores costeros como interiores. Finalmente, los resultados se integran con la informacion cronologica obtenida sobre restos oseos humanos y las modalidades de entierro definidas para el sudeste Pampeano y Norpatagonia con el fin de discutir la contribucion del caso de estudio a la bioarqueologia de dichas regiones. The aims are to evaluate and discuss the variations in mortuary practices and in the use of space (coast-inland) by hunter- gatherers during ca. 6,000-1,000 years BP. Quantitative, taphonomic, sex and age-at-death as well as burial modalities data are presented. The obtained chronology indicates systematic reoccupation during the Middle and initial Late Holocene of coastal and inland sectors. While in inland sites human bone remains are highly fragmented and affected by important post- depositional factors (e.g., weathering, abrasion), in the coastal sector anatomical integrity is greater and taphonomy indicates stability in the depositional history. During the Middle Holocene, while burial modality at coastal sites would have been primary, it could not be determined in inland sectors. For the initial Late Holocene, while on the Atlantic coast primary burials were recorded, secondary modalities were detected in inland sectors. Finally, the results are integrated with the chronological information obtained on human skeletal remains and burial modalities defined for S","PeriodicalId":46548,"journal":{"name":"Chungara-Revista De Antropologia Chilena","volume":"72 1","pages":"441-458"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83739838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These data enlarge the available information in this field and allow us to discuss both the spatial distribution and the circulation of obsidian inside the forest and between this environment and both the steppes to the east and the Pacific coast to the west. We analyzed by ICP-MS the trace-element composition of 32 archaeological obsidian artifacts from seven sites located in the localities of El Manso, El Hoyo and Cholila. These data indicate north-south circulation of obsidian within the interior of the forest, and also east-west circulation over considerable distances between the steppes and the forest. No obsidian from sources in Chile has been found. Even though hunter-gatherers began to inhabit the Andean Patagonian forest in the Early Holocene, previous studies have not recorded the use of obsidian inside the forest environment until Late Holocene when the most intense human occupation of these spaces occurred. The new data presented here extends the temporal discussion of the use of obsidian in the forest back into the Early Holocene.","PeriodicalId":46548,"journal":{"name":"Chungara-Revista De Antropologia Chilena","volume":"71 1","pages":"201-216"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79578111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Llevamos a cabo el analisis tecnomorfologico, funcional y geoquimico de los restos de esta materia prima. Los resultados indican que la obsidiana procede de Pampa del Asador, fuente distante a mas de 125 km. Se registro un aumento de la explotacion de esta materia prima a traves del tiempo, identificandose dos grandes momentos. Durante el Pleistoceno Final/Holoceno Temprano, la misma no habria jugado un rol relevante en la organizacion tecnologica. Las secuencias de produccion se caracterizan por el ingreso a los sitios de artefactos probablemente ya manufacturados. Durante el Holoceno Medio y Tardio se habrian ingresado a las localidades nodulos y/o nucleos. Las estrategias involucradas en su manufactura concuerdan en general con las implementadas para litologias locales y no exponen elementos que indiquen una mayor valorizacion de la obsidiana. No es posible asociar la gestion de esta roca a una estrategia de explotacion eventual. Consideramos que la materia prima se obtenia en el marco de circuitos de movilidad y contactos intergrupales. EnglishAbstract: In this paper, we examine the strategies of supply, exploitation, circulation and consumption of the obsidian found in sites from the archaeological localities of La Maria and Cerro Tres Tetas (Central Plateau of Santa Cruz province, Argentina). Technomorphologic, functional and geochemical analyses of the obsidian remains from these localities were carried out. Results show that obsidian comes from Pampa del Asador a source located over 125 km from the sites. Two chronological moments in the exploitation of this raw material were identified with an increase in consumption over time. During the Final Pleistocene/Early Holocene, obsidian was not a significant resource in the technological organization. Production sequences indicate that tools may have arrived already manufactured to the sites. In contrast, in the Middle and Late Holocene, cores and/or nodules were brought to the localities. Production strategies are similar to the ones recorded for local raw materials. There is no evidence to indicate that obsidian was a more valued resource than local rocks. We cannot ascertain that obsidian acquisition was part of a sporadic exploitation strategy from the source region. We believe that this raw material was obtained in mobility circuits and from intergroup contact.","PeriodicalId":46548,"journal":{"name":"Chungara-Revista De Antropologia Chilena","volume":"62 1","pages":"235-253"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87060439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To open possibilities of reflection in the face of this current context, it is necessary to attend to other “ends of the world” that anthropology is able to bring to the discussion. “Collapse” and “climate change ” are not new topics in archaeological debates. We seek to explore possible intersections between archaeology and ethnography from our particular research. Our reflection is based on the archaeological studies, using paleoenvironmental data, of the “end of the Aguada occupation” in the Ambato Valley (Catamarca, Argentina) and on an ethnographic study among current residents of the area. We will take from the ethnographic study the native notion of “seca”, understood as a state of constant reduction of the intensities of diverse spheres of local life, and its implications for archaeology.","PeriodicalId":46548,"journal":{"name":"Chungara-Revista De Antropologia Chilena","volume":"5 1","pages":"319-329"},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88796103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
