Christiane Nord defines the following text functions: referential, expressive, appellative and phatic. At the same time, she distinguishes between documental and instrumental (equifunctional or heterofunctional) texts and their respective translations. Following this typology, the paper analyses different text types that can be found in corporate newsletters and makes an insight on applicability and usability of this theory for the translation of this kind of texts. An overview of archival sources gives an account of characteristics of Georgian folkloric adaptations of Charles Perrault's fairy tales. The paper deals with transmissions between the categories of \"oral\" and \"literary\", and relations between translated print products and oral narratives. It is essential to note that the maritime industry is vital to global trade and economic growth, providing employment opportunities worldwide and playing an increasingly important role in marine environmental protection. Although maritime activity generates a considerable amount of translation work, there is still a shortage of empirical research on the challenges of translating maritime genres, particularly with regards to terminology. This paper aims to address this gap by identifying the main difficulties encountered in translating maritime terminology and common errors that translators tend to make. {"title":"Lettera in Proverbi by Antonio Vignali: Paremiological Study","authors":"Maria Antonella Sardelli","doi":"10.46991/tstp/2023.3.1.094","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.46991/tstp/2023.3.1.094","url":null,"abstract":"In the volume entitled Las cartas en refranes en España en el siglo XVI: Blasco de Garay (Sardelli, in press) we approach the study of letters in sayings in the Spanish literary tradition of the 16th century, with special attention to the work of Blasco de Garay, the maximum representative of this genre that combines the epistolary model and the use-abuse of sayings. In the same tradition, some Italian works of the 16th century seem to have been conceived with the same intention of playing with the proverb, so that the paremiological element becomes the very skeleton of an epistle which, deprived of this sententious charge, also loses all possible meaning.
 In this work, we will devote ourselves to the paremiological analysis of an exemplary letter of this peculiar genre, the Lettera in proverbi by Antonio Vignali, which contains more than 300 sententious statements and phraseological units. Due to its essential role in the development of Chinese philosophy and literature, Chuang Tzu has drawn the attention of sinologists worldwide to introduce this oriental masterpiece to their cultures and influenced the local literati. Burton Watson’s high-quality rendition The Complete Work of Chuang Tzu(1968) has been well-received by the renowned American poet Gary Snyder, who, based on Watson’s translation, rewrote Chuang Tzu in his eco-poetic literature to show his agreement with Zhuangzi’s philosophies. Most of scholars studying Snyder, however, seem to ignore his reception of Chuang Tzu and are more inclined to credit Tao Te Ching alone for his familiarity with Taoism. Thus, this study explores Snyder’s understanding of Chuang Tzu. Borrowing André Lefevere’s concept of rewriting and seeing it as a method of reception, this article conducts a comparative analysis between Snyder’s compositions and (Watson’s translation of) Chuang Tzu and investigates how Zhuangzi’s philosophies were rewritten and interpreted in Snyder’s context. Nowadays, not only specialists in natural languages but also those in applied translation studies keep a close eye on machine translation research. This article examines research papers on translation technology in the humanities and social studies in Russia and China: based on the papers by Russian and Chinese specialists in translation studies, the author conducts a comparative analysis of the evolution and scientific achievements in this field, reveals their common and unique features. For instance, following current trends, Russian scientists offer a new perspective on the development of translation technology based on the concept of “digital translation” that relies on the introduction of modern technologies, in particular computeraided translation (CAT). On the other hand, following the idea of aparadigm shift in translation studies, Chinese scientists o er a new scientific approach expressed in the concept of the “technological shift”. Il apparaît que le choix des critères, mais aussi la façon dont ils sont appelés par le législateur puis reconnus par les tribunaux est influencée par le discours des pouvoirs politiques en place. L’article portera en particulier sur les ambiguïtés portant sur les discriminations à raison de l’origine. Le législateur n’arrive pas à sanctionner les discriminations liées à l’origine car il ne peut pas les qualifier, le pouvoir en place n’ayant pas donné les clés pour le faire. Il en résulte des difficultés d’interprétation des critères liés à l’origine exprimés sous la forme d’une liste insatisfaisante. Retraçant les événements de 1915, en Anatolie, le roman raconte l’histoire de la famille de l’écrivain, entre l’Italie et son pays natal, à un moment fatidique de l’Histoire. L’oncle de la fiction romanesque était en réalité le grand-père de l’auteur-narrateur, d’où le travail de récupération de mémoire de l’histoire de sa famille de la part d’Arslan qui aboutit à la dénonciation du génocide arménien. Suite au succès phénoménal du livre, les cinéastes Paolo et Vittorio Taviani se sont également penchés sur la question du génocide arménien et ont produit leur œuvre cinématographique en 2007.
