The main force of Thai youth protests has made street politics in Thailand different from those of the past. By problematizing this emerging phenomenon, this paper proposes to tackle two research questions. How are the protests in Thailand during the Covid-19 pandemic different from those the past? How does the massive outbreak of protests generate implications for present and future Thailand? Therefore, this paper combines the theories of Radical Politics, Digital Activism and Contentious Politics, adopts qualitative research, mainly through documentary analysis, interviews and questionnaires to conduct a constructive research, to explore the development, changes and implications of street politics in Thailand during 2019 to 2022. This paper argues that the youth protests which took place in recent years have had a huge impact on many aspects of Thailand, but also had their shortcomings which, coupled with the strength of the government’s counter-measures to protests, led to continued but ineffective activities, with multiple conditions ultimately triggering a new period of deadlock in Thai political modernization. The paper tries to explain new methods of protest and counter-measures to protests, illustrating the impacts of social media on protests under the pandemic, and hoping in this way to enrich research on the development of street politics in Thailand and completes the research on the political participation of contemporary youth and its impact.","PeriodicalId":46412,"journal":{"name":"Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136241082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Criminal law enforcement in these cases is not yet fully integrated. Thus, it requires the multidoor approach. The multidoor approach utilizes several criminal provisions to maximize all constitutional potentials and minimize failures starting from the investigation, prosecution, and punishment stages. This research was carried out by analyzing relevant legal principles, doctrines, rules, and norms. The constitution and courtly decisions were the main primary legal materials. This research shows that most plantation burning cases are not yet processed using the multidoor approach. Most of the prosecution’s indictments are prepared alternatively. They exclude the possibility of the cumulative application of other crimes as concurrent criminal acts (concursus). Based on the results, it was found that the multidoor approach needs to be reconstructed by strengthening the secretariat and the standard operating procedures in applying the multidoor approach that binds all law enforcement agencies. This crime has been classified as an environmental crime in the law, and it applies the premium remedium principle. The imposition of corporate criminal liability must be carried out maximally to prevent repeating the criminal acts that still frequently occur.","PeriodicalId":46412,"journal":{"name":"Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135970268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The media play a significant role in this process given their enormous influence on the public. This study examined Nigerian journalists’ preparedness for covering election results and disputes with a focus on the 2023 general elections. Anchored on symbolic interactionism theory, the study adopted survey to gauge the opinions of journalists from the six states of southwest Nigeria which form study population. A structured questionnaire was administered on 300 respondents of 50 per state selected through non-proportional quota sampling. Findings revealed that majority of the journalists are well conscious of their role in reporting election results and disputes and that their respective media organisations prepare them for such duties through training and supply of tools with less provision of funds to facilitate their task on the field. Most of the respondents also agreed that other bodies like the Nigerian Press Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Civil societies and international organisations, prepare them better for election coverage than their media organisations through training, funding, and tools. The study concludes that Nigerian journalists, being aware of their role in reporting elections, are more prepared for the task by external bodies other than employers and recommends that media organisations should deploy more resources to preparing their reporters for the job. \u0000 \u0000Keywords: Agenda-setting, Election Results, Election Disputes, Nigerian Journalists, Symbolic interactionism","PeriodicalId":46412,"journal":{"name":"Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2023-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90658363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cross-sectional study was performed among 200 mothers of children with cerebral palsy picked up from rural Bangladesh using a simple random sampling technique. A questionnaire divided into various sections and administered by the researchers was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression models were applied to summarize the respondents’ characteristics, main outcomes (maternal stress levels), and factors associated with maternal stress. The overall prevalence of maternal stress among mothers of children with CP was 56.5%, and the median (IQR) age of respondents was 30 (14), whereas that of the children with CP was 6 (8). Factors associated with a higher prevalence of maternal stress were older mothers, divorced/separated, living in a nuclear family, income, male children, and higher negative family impact (p < 0.05). The factors identified in this study could help to develop policies and strategies to minimize maternal stress associated with parenting children with cerebral palsy in rural Bangladeshi households.","PeriodicalId":46412,"journal":{"name":"Pertanika Journal of Social Science and Humanities","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136118871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
