Copper/silicon nitride (Cu/Si 3 N 4 ) composites are fabricated by powder technology process. Copper is used as metal matrix and very fine Si 3 N 4 particles (less than 1 micron) as reinforcement material. The investigated powder were used to prepare homogenous (Cu/Si 3 N 4 ) composite mixtures with different Si 3 N 4 weight percentage (2, 4, 6, 8 and10). The produced mixtures were cold pressed and sintered at different temperatures (850, 950, 1000, 1050 ° C). The microstructure and the chemical composition of the produced Cu/Si 3 N 4 composites were investigated by (SEM) and XRD. It was observed that the Si 3 N 4 particles were homogeneously distributed in the Cu matrix. The density, electrical conductivity and coefficient of thermal expansion of the produced Cu/Si 3 N 4 composites were measured. The relative green density, sintered density, electrical conductivity as well as coefficient of thermal expansion were decreased by increasing the reinforcement phase (Si 3 N 4 ) content in the copper matrix. It is also founded that the sintered density and electrical conductivity of the Cu/Si 3 N 4 composites were increased by increase the sintering temperature.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66388788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fusion and characterization of bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether based thermosetting polymer mortars containing an epoxy resin, Fly ash and Rock sand are presented here for the Experimental study. The specimens have been prepared by means of an innovative process, in mild conditions, of commercial epoxy resin, Fly ash and Rock sand based paste. In this way, thermosetting based hybrid mortars characterized by a different content of normalized Fly ash and Rock sand by a homogeneous dispersion of the resin have been obtained. Once hardened, these new composite materials show improved compressive strength and toughness in respect to both the Fly ash and the Rock sand pastes since the Resin provides a more cohesive microstructure, with a reduced amount of micro cracks. The micro structural characterization allows pointing out the presence of an Interfacial Transition Zone similar to that observed in cement based mortars. A correlation between micro-structural features and mechanical properties of the mortar has also been studied.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66388506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the unit cell structure for all the samples to be hexagonal (space group: P3m1). FTIR spectra also confirmed the formation of BFT without any new phase. The milled (10 h) BFT ceramic showed the formation of small grain sizes (<2 μm) which is beneficial for dielectric applications in high density integrated devices. Besides, the milled (10 h) BFT ceramic sample exhibited superior dielectric properties (enhancement in ε’-value and reduction in tgδ value) compared to un-milled one. Impedance analysis indicated the negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR) character. The correlated barrier hopping model (jump relaxation type) is found to successfully explain the mechanism of charge transport in present ceramic samples.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66388651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, an efficient and simple refined theory is presented for buckling analysis of functionally graded plates. The theory, which has strong similarity with classical plate theory in many aspects, accounts for a quadratic variation of the transverse shear strains across the thickness and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without using shear correction factors. The mechanical properties of functionally graded material are assumed to vary according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. Governing equations are derived from the principle of minimum total potential energy. The closed-form solutions of rectangular plates are obtained. Comparison studies are performed to verify the validity of present results. The effects of loading conditions and variations of power of functionally graded material, modulus ratio, aspect ratio, and thickness ratio on the critical buckling load of functionally graded plates are investigated and discussed.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66388354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the current paper, stress and strain concentration factors in unidirectional functionally graded (UDFGM) plate with central circular cutout are predicted by carrying out a finite element study on ANSYS APDL platform. The present study aims to bridge the lacuna in the understandings of stress analysis in perforated functionally graded plates. It is found that the material variation parameter is an important criterion while designing a perforated UDFGM plate. By selecting a proper material variation parameter and direction of material gradation, the stress and strain concentrations can be significantly reduced.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66387969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The static analysis of the simply supported functionally graded plate under transverse load by using a new sinusoidal shear deformation theory based on the neutral surface concept is investigated analytically in the present paper. No transversal shear correction factors are needed because a correct representation of the transversal shearing strain is given. The mechanical properties of the FGM plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness according to a power law formulation except Poisson’s ratio, which is kept constant. The equilibrium and stability equations are derived by employing the principle of virtual work. Results are provided for thick to thin plates and for different values of the gradient index k, which subjected to sinusoidal or uniformly distributed lateral loads. The accuracy of the present results is verified by comparing it with finite element solution. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the proposed theory is accurate and efficient in predicting the displacements and stresses of functionally graded plates.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66388099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, experiments were carried out as per the Taguchi experimental design and an L27 orthogonal array was used to study the influence of various combinations of process parameters on surface roughness (Ra) and material removal rate (MRR). As a dynamic approach, the multiple response optimization was carried out using grey relational analysis (GRA) and desirability function analysis (DFA) for simultaneous evaluation. These two methods are considered in optimization, as both are multiple criteria evaluation and not much complicated. The optimum process parameters found to be cutting speed at 63 m/min, feed rate at 600 mm/min, and depth of cut at 0.8 mm. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to classify the significant parameters affecting the responses. The results indicate that depth of cut is the most significant parameter affecting multiple response characteristics of GFRP composites followed by feed rate and cutting speed. The experimental results for the optimal setting show that there is considerable improvement in the process.","PeriodicalId":46242,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Materials Research-An International Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":2.2,"publicationDate":"2016-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66387939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
