A long stay in wartime conditions requires understanding, evaluation of events, actualization and explanation for both Ukrainian and foreign audiences, which explains the authors’ interest in this way of reflecting wartime reality.\u0000The research focuses on identifying the potential of the narrative method of organizing material in documentary collections about the war in Ukraine. It is emphasized that the specificity of understanding the military reality and its representation by the authors depends on the status of the communicator as an author-observer of the events and the author-participant of the events. If the authors-observers of the events are clearly aware of their communication intentions to achieve specific communication effects (in particular, influence on public opinion), then the participating authors first of all strive to actualize the personal experience of specific events, to think about it, to share it with the audience, to reflect.\u0000It was revealed that the collection of e. Shishatskyi «Journey to the Beyond. Mariupol» in the form of «diary entries» – demonstrates the subjective experience of the author, which he experienced during a trip to Mariupol with a volunteer mission, – to help his relatives and countrymen. the experience gained had a significant impact on the author’s value orientations, because he retrospectively spoke about the obstacles he encountered on his way and which he was unable to overcome, about the peculiarities of adaptation to the new reality – the military.

The conventional scholarly understanding of the methods at cultural anthropology has remained largely unchanged since the days of Franz Boas and Bronislaw Malinowski. They are the founders of cultural/social anthropology. The basis of the field method is observation and interviewing. The methods were improved. The introduction of audio and video recording in field research caused revolutionary changes in the application of the method. Both observations and interviews have many varieties, as those who are “in the field” know well. It would seem that the proximity of the approaches used by cultural (social) anthropology and journalism is obvious. However, this kind of formulation of the question is not widespread in the domestic scientific discourse, and, therefore, it is relevant.\u0000The article is about the latest research and publications related to the contribution of cultural anthropology to the field of media science and aims to posing a problem regarding the application of cultural anthropology methods in journalism. The article examines the approaches to this issue available in the scientific literature devoted to social communications. the article also examines individual examples of the use of anthropological methods in journalism. The latter provides an opportunity to prospectively analyze individual materials of the Ukrainian media space from the point of view of the application of anthropological methods.\u0000In particular, the article discusses the contributions of Elizabeth Bird, beginning with an exploration of anthropological methodology in journalism. In this early work, the author emphasizes that an anthropological perspective changes the relationship between the researcher and the studied and wonders how this might change journalism. If the first exploration is devoted to how the anthropological approach can help the journalist in his work, then the collection of essays edited by E. Bird “The anthropology of news & journalism: global perspectives” in 2010 mainly emphasizes the study of the media using the methods of cultural anthropology. Anne Kirstine Hermann raises the question of the importance of anthropological methods in journalism in connection with multiculturalism. The author claims that multiculturalism creates serious challenges for the press, and media development trends require greater knowledge of the context. this leads to the emergence of anthropological (ethnographic) journalism within the limits of American artistic journalism. Janet Cramer and Michael McDevitt write in detail about the variability of traditional journalism in connection with the involvement of anthropological methods. Finally, the article presents examples of how journalists used the methods of cultural anthropology.\u0000One of the examples is about the works of O. Constructive journalism is a “revision” of journalistic intentions and opportunities for communicating with the media audience and restoring social dialogue. 2. The author focuses on the problem of propaganda, censorship and the development of the free media in the Middle East conflict zones. The problem of regional conflicts` “informatization” and the “information wall” phenomenon is examined in the article.\u0000An attention was paid on a duality of informational influence upon the Middle East conflicts. On the one hand, the influence of mass media within the conflicting state is increasing. In fact, the national press determines the assessment of the outcome of the war. On the other hand, there is an effect of an “information wall” between the warring parties, which cuts off communications between the antagonists and hinders diplomatic ways of resolving the situation.\u0000Two different trends are taking place in the Middle East were researched in the article. Some states, such as Qatar or Oman, are trying to become information centers, their mass media are becoming very influential either in the Arab world, or all over the planet. Other states tends towards the complete censorship and control. the “packaged journalism” during the Middle East conflicts was described in the paper. “Packaged journalism” means unequal working conditions for journalists. Such circumstances cause an uneven review of events in favor of specific conflict side. The conclusions state that the degree of informatization of the societies of the Middle East directly affects the intensity of conflicts and determines their outcome.\u0000In its further perspectives, studies of the information dimension of conflicts reveal the prospects of analysis and practical conclusions regarding the expansion of peacekeeping activities and the possibilities of reducing the intensification of crisis situations in the world.

In this sense, a very important task for the authorities and society is to establish interaction with the civil society of European countries, to strengthen relations with the people of the Balkan Peninsula, with whom Ukrainians are connected by common spiritual and cultural heritage. the descendants of immigrants from Ukrainian lands – Ukrainians and Ruthenians – have been living on the territory of Croatia and Serbia for several centuries. In addition to historical, cultural and political interests, this article has a journalistic scientific interest, because the official periodicals of the Croatian Ruthenians («Nova Dumka») and the Serbian Ukrainians («Ridne Slovo») for the years 2021-2022 are subject to analysis.\u0000The analysis of the implementation of the state policy towards the Balkan Ruthenians and Ukrainians based on the research of the periodicals can be useful for the political circles of Ukraine.\u0000Studying the cultural activities of representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, scientists also paid some attention to periodicals. At the same time, the recent events in Ukraine that shook the whole world, for obvious reasons, have not yet come into the focus of such scientists.\u0000This article is based on the study of the topics and issues of the periodicals «Nova Dumka» and «Ridne Slovo». Genre features were also investigated. A comparative analysis of journalistic tools used by editors and contributors was conducted. The results of the study allow us to draw conclusions about a certain similarity in the construction of periodicals, the coincidence of genre preferences of the authors. The Ruthenian and Ukrainian periodicals also share an interest in such topics as the government’s activities in the field of national minorities, cultural events, the spiritual life of ethnic groups, and the historical memory of Ruthenians and Ukrainians. At the same time, the painful consequences of the war in the Balkans, which took place at the end of the 20th century, were most vividly reflected in the publications in «Nova Dumka».\u0000Both periodicals are interested in Ukrainian topics. A sharp surge in the number of relevant publications took place after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
