This paper proposes a novel motion detection algorithm with background model generation. In order to accurately generate background model, 4-connectivity function is directly used to approximately label the background region. The labeling function makes the background model self-adaptive as object pixels can be roughly ignored for updating. Similarly, this function is also applied to approximately select the foreground region after background subtraction. Finally, objects can be detected by direct threshold function from the labeled foreground region. For measuring the quantitative accuracy, Similarity and F1 are used as two accuracy metrics. As a result, the proposed method produces a substantial degree of efficacy higher than those produced by other state-of-the-art methods.","PeriodicalId":442380,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129684357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In smart home environments, various “intelligent devices and facilities” should be able to be organized and connected suitably and automatically to provide specific functions for people's daily life. From the above perspective, an important issue is to design the properly relative behaviors and operations between the homogeneously and heterogeneously intelligent devices and facilities to provide required functions for people. In this paper, we focus on a smart home air-conditioner control network, and design the relative behaviors between home gateway, air-conditioners, doors, and windows. When a user remotely turns on an air-conditioner in a house, the relative doors and windows should perform proper operations automatically and immediately for energy-saving. For this purpose, a tree-based self-organization network architecture and the smallest closed-area mechanism are designed.","PeriodicalId":442380,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129868752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, we proposed a generalized maximum a posteriori spectral amplitude (GMAPA) speech enhancement algorithm. The proposed GMAPA algorithm has been confirmed effective in a series of objective evaluations and speech recognition tests. In this study, we conduct experiments and observe that GMAPA also provides clear long-term SNR increases in a simulated hearing-aids testing condition. The result demonstrates that GMAPA can be suitably applied in digital hearing aids.","PeriodicalId":442380,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123063046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fang","doi":"10.1109/ISCE.2013.6570189","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISCE.2013.6570189","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents a parallel VLSI architecture of a singular value decomposition (SVD) processor for real-time multi-channel electroencephalography (EEG) System. In the recent years, EEG has been widely applied on engineering research, medical diagnosis, and so on. More and more studies regarding brain-computer interface (BCI) and other related applications have been published. In order to increase the accuracy of BCI, the need for a real-time multi-channel EEG System is very urgent. Because an EEG system uses a SVD processor to calculate inverse matrix of target ones, the real-time requirement of the EEG system depends on the operation latency of the SVD processor. Moreover, the accuracy of results obtained from SVD processor directly affects the performance of the system. Generally, SVD is based on coordinate rotation digital computer (CORDIC) algorithm in hardware implementation. Therefore, there is a trade-off between the iteration number of the CORDIC engine, which is related to the computing latency of the SVD processor, and accuracy of SVD the results. In this paper, the parallel architecture of the SVD processor can efficiently shorten the clock cycle of iteration times and provide a precise inverse matrix result. This work not only upgrades the EEG system practicability, but also ensures the feasibility of real-time application. The proposed SVD processor is implemented in the 8-channel EEG system using the TSMC 90 nm CMOS technology.","PeriodicalId":442380,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (ISCE)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126742300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
