Using the proposed converter is possible to eliminate the low-frequency autotransformer in input of the converter which allows UPS operation with two input voltage values (110V and 220V). The control strategy is based on the average current mode control and applied to both converters, in order to provide power factor correction and output voltage regulation. The simulation results for a 2.4 kW proposed converter are presented in order to demonstrate the proposed ideas.","PeriodicalId":442317,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th IEEE/IAS International Conference on Industry Applications","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126832974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed converter is a slightly modified flyback topology which enables the main switch to be used both for power factor correction and PWM high-frequency dimming with a constant peak current on the LEDs, in order to conserve chromatic characteristics of the light emitted. The proposed control scheme uses duty-cycle to control the dimming level, while switching frequency is varied along to adjust the input power level and maintain a constant peak current on the LEDs. Mathematical description, simulation and experimental results of a prototype with 100 W of peak power fed from 127 V mains voltage are presented in this paper to show feasibility of the single-stage converter proposal.","PeriodicalId":442317,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th IEEE/IAS International Conference on Industry Applications","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116198727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to be able to detect this sort of failure, a new diagnosis strategy is proposed. The strategy consists basically of two stages: 1) measure the voltage drop in each power semiconductor in on-state by a proper modification in the driver circuits and 2) feedback the fault signal generated in the drive circuits to the microcontroller to decide the next action. Then, the voltage measured is compared with a reference value to determine if a semiconductor presents an open-circuit fault. The proposed strategy has the advantage that it can be implemented without including additional sensors. Simulation and experimental results are included to validate the theory.","PeriodicalId":442317,"journal":{"name":"2012 10th IEEE/IAS International Conference on Industry Applications","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122143581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transcendental equations are extensively used in power electronics modeling and the solution normally adopts numerical approaches. Sometimes the solution is presented by means of graphics or abacus. In this paper a Cauchy's integral theorem based method is presented using only basic concepts of complex integration.
