One major complaint associated with PD is upper extremity motor deficits (UE), frequently reported in difficulties to perform activities of daily living (ADL), which may negatively affect quality of life. In recent years new technologies have emerged to assist the UE rehabilitation process in PD, such as virtual reality. Therefore, this study sought to verify the effects of an intervention in the UE with semi-immersive virtual reality equipment on ADLs and quality of life of individuals with PD. Six individuals with PD were selected for intervention, and evaluated by the Mini Mental State Examination, the Hoehn & Yahr Scale, the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), the Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) and the test d’évaluation des membres supérieurs de personnes âgées (TEMPA). The interventions lasted 27 minutes per session, twice per week, for 5 weeks, using the Leap Motion Controller. Individuals showed improvement in muscle strength, muscle endurance, ADLs, and quality of life, all statistically significant. In conclusion, the protocol based on virtual reality applied to the upper limbs effectively improved the activities of daily living and quality of life in individuals with PD.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129656107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Entretanto, são escassos os estudos que verificam se tal associação tem relação com as habilidades funcionais da criança. Este estudo tem por objetivo investigar quais oportunidades no ambiente domiciliar estão associadas e explicam às habilidades funcionais de mobilidade e função social de crianças na primeiríssima infância. Trata-se de um estudo transversal e exploratório feito com 74 crianças entre 6 e 18 meses. Para avaliar as oportunidades presentes no ambiente domiciliar, foi utilizado o instrumento affordances in the home environment motor development - infant scale. Para avaliar as habilidades funcionais das crianças, foi utilizado o inventário de avaliação pediátrica de incapacidade. Observou-se que a mobilidade das crianças pode ser explicada em 45,6% (R² ajustado=0,45) e a função social em 30% (R² ajustado=0,30) pela quantidade de brinquedos de motricidade grossa, pelos equipamentos e pela variedade de estimulação presente no ambiente domiciliar. Conclui-se que posições, brinquedos e materiais que mantêm a criança mais restrita e menos ativa exercem influência negativa. Por outro lado, brinquedos que oportunizam um maior deslocamento e interação favorecem as habilidades funcionais de mobilidade e função social.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122422313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trata-se de um estudo transversal, incluindo pacientes que estiveram internados na UTI devido à COVID-19. A avaliação, na alta hospitalar, incluiu as seguintes variáveis: FMR, função pulmonar e força muscular periférica (escore Medical Research Council (MRC) e dinamometria de preensão palmar). Foram incluídos 25 pacientes, com idade média de 48,7±12,3 anos. Observou-se que 72% dos pacientes apresentaram distúrbio ventilatório restritivo, além de redução da FMR (pressão inspiratória máxima (PImáx) de 74% e pressão expiratória máxima (PEmáx) de 78% do predito). A FMR (PImáx e PEmáx, respectivamente) apresentou correlação negativa com o tempo de VM (r=−0,599, p=0,002; r=−0,523, p=0,007) e de internação hospitalar (r=−0,542, p=0,005; r=−0,502, p=0,01) e correlação positiva com a capacidade vital forçada (CVF) (r=0,825, p=0,000; r=0,778, p=0,000), o volume expiratório forçado no primeiro segundo (VEF1) (r=0,821, p=0,000; r=0,801, p=0,000), o pico de fluxo expiratório (PFE) (r=0,775, p=0,000; r=0,775, p=0,000) e a força de preensão palmar (r=0,656, p=0,000; r=0,589, p=0,002). Concluímos que pacientes com quadros críticos da COVID-19 apresentaram, na alta hospitalar: redução da FMR; alterações da função pulmonar; correlação negativa entre a FMR e o tempo de ventilação mecânica invasiva (VMI) e de internação hospitalar; e correlação positiva com a função pulmonar e a força de preensão palmar.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115564488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few studies verify if this is associated with the infant’s functional abilities. This study aims to assess which opportunities in the home environment are associated with functional mobility skills and social function of infants in early childhood and explain them. This is a cross-sectional and exploratory study with 74 infants aged from six to 18 months. The affordances in the home environment motor development - infant scale instrument was used to evaluate the opportunities in the home environment. The pediatric evaluation of disability inventory was used to assess the infants’ functional abilities. We observed that infants’ mobility can be explained in 45.6% (Adjusted R²=0.45) and social function in 30% (Adjusted R²=0.30) by the amount of gross motor skills toys, equipment and variety of stimulation in the home environment. We concluded that positions, toys, and materials that keep the infant more restricted and less active have a negative effect. On the other hand, toys that offer greater displacement and interaction favor the functional mobility skills and social function.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116082223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In clinical practice, defining if more subtle alterations observed in executive function (EF) and motor coordination tests in older adults are due to an initial neurological condition or low schooling level is difficult. This study aimed to evaluate the possible differences in motor coordination and EF between adults and older adults with high and low schooling level as well as the possible correlations between motor coordination and EF in this sample. A total of 75 healthy individuals (aged from 30 to 89 years) were evaluated. EF was assessed by the trail making test (TMT) whereas motor coordination was assessed by the upper limb diadochokinetic test, which is the rapid alternation between supination and pronation of the forearms (right, left, both performing in-phase movements, and both performing anti-phase movements). Analysis of variance showed that age and schooling level possibly influenced EF and motor coordination. Possible relationships between EF and diadochokinesis were calculated by Pearson’s correlation. Older adults with low schooling level were significantly slower on the TMT part B (cognitive and motor) and delta TMT (cognitive). All groups were slower performing the anti-phase movement, especially those with low schooling level. Results showed only weak correlations between EF and motor coordination. Age and schooling level influenced executive function and motor coordination. However, the EF and motor coordination tests presented no correlation when these two factors were statistically corrected.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122976214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da eletroterapia de baixa e média frequência em 30 participantes do sexo feminino, entre 18-26 anos, com queixa de dismenorreia primária. As participantes foram divididas em grupos que receberam: corrente TENS (frequência de 100 Hz e duração de pulso de 100 µs), corrente aussie (portadora de 4Khz modulada em 100 Hz com bursts de 4ms) e placebo (colocação dos eletrodos com o aparelho desligado). Todos os grupos eletroestimulados foram tratados com corrente no limiar sensorial e ajuste da intensidade a cada cinco minutos, sendo o tempo total de 30 minutos. Para a avaliação foi coletado a dor durante o ciclo menstrual (EVA), influência da dor nas atividades de vida diária e qualidade do sono (escalas visuais análogas do sono). Após análise estatística, conclui-se que houve redução significativa do quadro álgico em todos os grupos, sendo a corrente superior ao placebo. Em relação às AVD, todos os grupos apresentaram diferença significativa, e o grupo corrente aussie foi o único que obteve melhora nos três dias avaliados, mantendo o efeito analgésico tardio maior em comparação aos demais. A qualidade de sono pouco se alterou após os tratamentos propostos, necessitando de estudos futuros para fundamentar essa variável.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"154 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120877772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this cross-sectional study, PADL was quantified by a pedometer validated for step counting and we considered the mean of seven consecutive days during the time awake. We assessed functional capacity by the TUG, 4MGS, STS5rep, STS30sec, and STS1min tests and the 6MWT. A total of 79 subjects without lung functional impairments were included (49% male, aged 28 [23-36] years). Performance of simple functional tests correlated with the 6MWT (0.23<r <0.56; P<0.05 for all) and the TUG test showed the best association (R2= 0.34). However, simple functional tests did not correlate with PADL (0.03< r <0.13; P>0.05 for all). The less time-consuming functional tests were weakly-moderately related to the 6MWT in healthy young subjects. The TUG showed the best association and explained up to 34% of the 6MWT. However, the 6MWT cannot be replaced by none of these simple functional tests. Finally, functional capacity showed no association with physical activity in daily life assessed by the pedometers in this population.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128042918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Few studies, however, assess the standing time using objective measures. Thus, this study aimed to verify whether standing time at work is associated with lower back and lower limb pain in the last seven days and last 12 months in caregivers of older adults and cleaners. This is a cross-sectional study. Standing time at work was quantified using inclinometers attached to the workers’ thigh and spine. Musculoskeletal symptoms were assessed using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the point-biserial correlation coefficient (rpb) between standing time at work and the presence of musculoskeletal symptoms. The analyses were performed using the SPSS software, adopting 5% significance level. Workers spend most of their time standing still (41.3%) or walking (39.3%). The presence of symptoms in the lower back was positively correlated with standing time (rpb=0.52; p<0.05). Walking time was negatively correlated with symptoms at the hip in the last 12 months (rpb=−0.53; p<0.05) and running time with symptoms at the hip, in the last seven days, (rpb=−0.43; p<0.05) and the lower back (rpb=−0.43; p<0.05). Longer standing time was correlated with the presence of symptoms in the lower back. Taekwondo is a combat sport that prioritizes direct contact between participants, specially by kicks and punches, and provides ambiguity in the health-sport relationship, as its practice could be harmful. This study aimed to quantify the prevalence of injuries in amateur Taekwondo athletes, from training or competitions, and assess their association with intrinsic and extrinsic factors. This is a descriptive, observational, and retrospective study that assessed injuries by a reported morbidity inquiry. Information on sports injuries considered the last six months of 2018. Participants were athletes aged from 12 to 25 years old, of both sexes, practicing Taekwondo in the city of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The prevalence of sports injuries in amateur Taekwondo athletes in Pelotas was 26.2% (n=1), without significant differences between sexes. The main reason for the practice was physical conditioning (35.7%). The main mechanism of injury was kick when attacking (45.4%), followed by impact when defending (27.3%). The most frequent type of injury was sprain (27.3%). followed by contusion (18.2%), and the most injured body parts were knees (36.4%) and ankles (36.4%). The prevalence of sports injuries in amateur Taekwondo athletes in Pelotas was lower than the one found in the literature, and it may be due to the nature of the practice, as they are recreational amateur athletes aiming to improve physical conditioning.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132352564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to assess the effects of low and medium frequency electrotherapy in 30 women, aged from 18 to 26 years, who suffer from primary dysmenorrhea. Participants were divided into groups that received the transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation current (frequency of 100Hz and 100μs pulses), Aussie current (4kHz carrier frequency, modulated at 100Hz, and 4ms bursts), and placebo (electrodes placed with the machine turned off). All treated groups received electrical current at the sensory threshold and its intensity was adjusted every five minutes. The treatment lasted 30 minutes. For the evaluation, pain during the menstrual cycle (via VAS), pain interference in activities of daily living (ADL), and sleep quality (via VAS sleep quality) were collected. After statistical analysis, pain reduced significantly in all groups evaluated, with better outcomes for the currents than for the placebo. Although all groups showed significant difference regarding ADL, the Aussie group was the only one that improved pain in all days evaluated. Sleep quality changed little after treatment, thus, further studies are required to assess this variable.","PeriodicalId":436434,"journal":{"name":"Fisioterapia e Pesquisa","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117295639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
