The article offers a comparative analysis of the results of studying these coins by other scientists. The catalog of the article contains data on 593 coins, including photographs of 164 of them. Coin images of identified varieties of original and imitative puls have been restored and their drawings are presented. The evolution of the use of the “islimi” ornamental substrate technique on the puls of Shehr al-Jadida is presented. Based on a study of stamping dies, a grid of correlations of dies was built and a classification of puls was created. The boundaries of the use of the former Juchid copper puls in re-minting Shehr al-Jadida coins at the early stages of their issue are determined. The criteria distinguishing original issues from imitative ones are revealed. These include the simplified, barbaric nature of the legend and images, as well as the absence of any connection between the stamping dies and the coins of the original issues. An analysis of the die characteristics of the coins of the New City, found in various regions of Moldova and Ukraine, allows us to conclude that the mint of Shehr al-Jadida could work only on the territory of the modern Old Orhei. The article is provided with a large number of illustrations, including previously unpublished varieties of copper puls.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. R. Tokhtas’ev in 2000. The publisher and other scientists were unable to read the text of the inscription. A. V. Belousov did not rule out that the inscription contains encrypted personal names. Based on system analysis, the inscription is a list of six names (in the nominative case) of 1st century BC —3rd century AD: Βαδάκης, Σωσίπολις, / Νικέρατος, Ἐπιγώνε, / Βάδαγος, Ἰγισών. The interpretation of this inscription suggested by V. P. The main sources are field research data obtained in 2020—2022 and online interviews with Old Believers from Russia and abroad (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Republic of Moldova). Considering the attitudes towards online worship services and the use of modern technical means and media technologies to perform religious practices during the pandemic, the article examines how Old Believers search for answers about the extent to which the transformation of religious practices under the influence of mediatization is acceptable. Priestly Old Believers are more likely to positively perceive new technologies that allow them to expand missionary activities. As for the priestless Old Believers, most of the religious leaders and ordinary believers speak out against the active mediatization of traditional practices, since they no longer comply with the apostolic rules, while allowing the use of technical innovations and broadcasting of online worship services for educational purposes. Nevertheless, the variability of answers and interpretations can be traced not only at the level of different Old Believer denominations, but also within communities, while the region of residence does not play an important role in decision-making.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. One of these scientists is the outstanding historian Vladislav Yakimovich Grosul. As a representative of historical and political Moldavism, in the late 1990s he gave impetus to the revival of interest in the migrationist concept in fundamental science. Vladislav Yakimovich repeatedly drew attention to the fact that not only Romanian, but also Soviet scientists for a long time, in essence, adhered to autochthonous and admigration theories. According to his own confessions, he shared this position, and he himself, however, later decided to reconsider it and actively urged his colleagues to do so. Relying mainly on the works of linguists, archaeologists and anthropologists, he believed that the Romanized population of the Balkan Peninsula were primarily Romanized Illyrians, and not Daco-Thracians, and that the proto-language of the Eastern Romance was also formed in the Balkans. V. Ya. Grosul, admitting the possibility (albeit insignificant) that a small part of the Romanized population could have survived in the Carpathians, has developed the Illyrian version of the migration theory most fully and convincingly so far. The concept of V. Ya. Grosul requires the closest possible attention, critical analysis, especially on the basis of an integrated historical and geographical approach.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. Despite relatively small size of the series, the collection is interesting for the following reasons: the finds were obtained right in the course of the excavations; the whole bulk of them can be associated with a rather narrow chronological period (mid-12th century), but their appearance in the cultural deposits corresponds to a later period, the time when a metalworking complex was functioning on the territory under consideration. Basing on this fact, we can assume that the seals entered the territory of the Mst-III excavation site as raw material for remelting. At the same time, the simultaneity of the existence of a significant part of the artifacts suggests the presence of some storage, which contained synchronous documents sealed with leaden seals (?), which were destroyed much later.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. Beliaev","doi":"10.55086/sp226387399","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.55086/sp226387399","url":null,"abstract":"The use of trumpets made from the conch shells of large marine mollusks was one of the peculiar traits of Mesoamerican culture. The earliest evidence of this practice can be placed in the Middle Formative (I mil. BC), but this tradition persisted among the native population of Mexico until the 20 th century. Conch shell trumpets were excavated in many Maya sites (Uaxactun, Kaminaljuyu, Mayapan, Tikal, Dzibilchaltun etc.). Since the 1960s it was believed that their main function was that of alarm, and sometimes they were considered as a type of musical instruments. The analysis of previously unpublished hieroglyphic inscription on the conch shell from Asunción Mita (Department of Jutiapa, Guatemala) preserved in the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology of Guatemala shows that it was used in the ceremony of appeal to the deities. New interpretation of the hieroglyphic texts on the Early Classic conch shells leads to the conclusion that, in the Classic Maya culture, their main function was ritual. They served as one of the main instruments of the ritual communication with the deities and ancestors, whose names and images were inscribed on the conch shells.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. A dedicatory prescription on its portal contains the names of Uzbek, a Golden Horde Khan, and someone named Abdul-Aziz ibn Ibrahim al-Arbeli, and the date — 714 year of Hijra. The mihrab is a spolia and used to belong to another, yet unidentified structure of 14th century. Based on its physical studying and comparing it with iconographic sources and observations of other researchers, we can assert that the structure fully maintained its original aspect, in spite of its relocation and installation in a new place. The mihrab is a monumental stone structure made of carefully processed blocks of limestone. It is a two-part stalactitical niche with a rectangular frame, sunk into a quarry stone wall. This frame was decorated with exquisite incised ornament, Quranic texts and three figured knobs. Currently, the mihrab is largely distorted by some improvements. The key objective of this research is to provide a systemic historiographic information about this structure and introduce for discussion the proceedings of its studies before the restoration, for various reasons unnoticed by the specialists.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus. The source base of the study is represented by 5,465 body crosses originating from 78 regions of the Russian Federation. The localization of 20 different types of body crosses is reviewed. It was determined that 16 of them have a dense geographical localization. The results obtained allow concluding that the data from the State Catalogue of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation, as a whole, correctly reflects the cultural and historical phenomena of the past. The manufacturing centers for most types of crosses were established. The migration directions of groups of people with certain types of crosses were revealed. It is proposed to identify crosses with such morphological and/or iconographic features, which have limited geographical localization, as typological units, as this allows moving from a formal record-oriented classification to an informative one, that is, one that reflects the cultural and historical phenomena of the past.","PeriodicalId":435723,"journal":{"name":"Stratum plus.
