According to Lukarevic, grand\u0000 zupan Stefan Nemanja and tsar Stefan Dusan persecuted witches in their\u0000 country, and moreover, tsar Dusan burned the books of magic called\u0000 ?Grominjak? in Slavic language. This report can?t be confirmed by any other\u0000 historical source, contemporary or later, but we think that Lukarevic didn?t\u0000 invent the story. We reckon that Lucarevic based his report on the\u0000 persecution of witches on certain historical events. The persecution of\u0000 heretics during Nemanja?s reign could?ve been that on which Lukarevic based\u0000 his story of Nemanja?s persecution of witches. In the time of Stefan Dusan\u0000 the legislation sanctioned the practice of magic (though, the practitioners\u0000 are predominantly termed as males); perhaps the tsar has persecuted\u0000 individually some wizards or sorcerers that had broken the law. But this\u0000 certainly couldn?t have been a true witch hunt, like those that Lukarevic\u0000 could?ve witnessed in his time. Likewise, Grominjak in fact could?ve been\u0000 the same as gromovnik, an astrological and meteorological manual used in\u0000 mediaeval Serbia for divination by thunders and earthquakes; this handbook\u0000 could?ve seemed to Lukarevic as a real grimoire used for summoning demons.\u0000 And since numerous manuscripts of gromovniks have survived, they obviously\u0000 hadn?t been systematically destroyed by the authorities. Our conclusion is,\u0000 therefore, that Jakov Lukarevic knew of some real events that were\u0000 influenced by his own experience and knowledge which ultimately shaped his\u0000 story into one of an early modern witch hunt ?transported? into mediaeval\u0000 Serbian state.

Pirincana was one of the names of a residence of the\u0000 Austrian commander of Belgrade (1717-1739). During Ottoman rule, Pirinc-han\u0000 was one of the names for a building used as a trading post. During Austrian\u0000 rule, army pharmacies were situated in Pirinc-han. Confusion caused by the\u0000 similar names of these two buildings brought many issues relating to their\u0000 identification, location and dates of demolition. Due to the fact that the\u0000 names Pirincana and Pirinc-han have not been the subject of particular\u0000 language research, we will focus on the determination of the origin of the\u0000 aforementioned buildings. The motivation for the naming of Pirinc-han is\u0000 most likely derived from the period?s other hans in different parts of the\u0000 Ottoman Empire. They got their name due to rice trading that was once\u0000 conducted there. There exist two hypotheses as to the origin of the lexeme\u0000 pirincana, the name of the aforementioned building. As the motivation for\u0000 the naming, pirinc or pirinac (brass) could be claimed. In both cases\u0000 morphological adaptation led to the subsequent resemantization. There is no\u0000 doubt that Pirincana was one of the names of a residence of the Austrian\u0000 commander in Belgrade. Furthermore, some historians incorrectly claim that\u0000 the name Pirincana is just a synonym for Pirinc-han, because there are many\u0000 sources leading to the con?firmation that the residence of the commander was\u0000 also named Pirincana among the populace.

In the paper, the author\u0000 analyses the segments of Vulovic?s study From Old Serbian Literature. About\u0000 Serbian Biographers of the 13th Century (published in 1885) that deal with\u0000 Domentijan?s work. The author?s aim was to establish to what extent Vulovic\u0000 relied on the results of scientific research achieved until then and what\u0000 new insights his study provided. Through her analysis of the parts of\u0000 Vulovic?s text dedicated to Domentijan, the author of this paper established\u0000 that Vulovic, in keeping with his critical orientation, dedicated\u0000 con?siderable attention and space to the writer?s biography. He draws the\u0000 writer?s portrait relying on the observations of P. ?. Safarik; he himself\u0000 tried to shed more light on some relevant details from Domentijan?s life.\u0000 Analysing The Hagiography of St Sava, first of all he took an interest in\u0000 the writer?s sources. He established that Domentijan mostly relied on the\u0000 work of Stefan the First-Crowned dedicated to St Simeon (which inspired him\u0000 to reach for more complex ideational-stylistic methods, to introduce a more\u0000 pronounced element of fantasy). According to Vulovic?s assessment,\u0000 Domentijan outdid the older writer in a number of ways. Vulovic has a very\u0000 high opinion of The Hagiography of St Sava, ranking it above Sava?s and\u0000 Stefan?s, as well as all the other Serbian biographies. He characterises\u0000 another work by Domentijan, The Hagiography of St Simeon, as a ?mere\u0000 compilation?. Vulovic?s observation that Domentijan, while compiling this\u0000 work, relied very much on his own The Hagiography of St Sava is highly\u0000 valuable. The author of this paper also studied the part of Vulovic?s study\u0000 dedicated to Teodosije. As could be expected, in this section of his study\u0000 Vulovic speaks a lot about Domentijan?s hagiography of St Sava, which was\u0000 Teodosije?s main source for his eponymous work. Lj. Ju?has-Georgievska\u0000 particularly focuses on Vulovic?s very significant conclusion that\u0000 Domentijan is ?more dependable? than Teodosije, arising from his thorough\u0000 analysis of the historical facts in the works of these two writers.
