A structured questionnaire was designed with open-and close-ended questions and circulated amongst the social science teachers of Pondicherry University. Analyses revealed that most of the respondents use proprietary software for research, OSS is used more in e-learning than proprietary e-learning software, majority of respondents use proprietary operating system for both teaching and research and the open source Internet browser is mostly used by the respondents for accessing information for teaching and research from the Internet. A good number of the respondents are making use of OSS but many of them face problems using them at times. There are few more of them who make use of OSS, without knowing the fact that it is OSS. All of them agreed that more of training/workshops should be conducted on OSS for better utilisation and output.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131452034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various academic libraries have to decrease their subscription of journals, books and databases due to rising cost of scholarly publications, and this is extremely affecting research and development activities of academics. In such situation, subscription of journals and resources through consortium is the ideal solution for all academic libraries. This study is mainly concerned to pharmaceutical science academic institutes in the state of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, which are the states of western India and their status of libraries for their present situation by providing required information to their users, satisfaction by getting information resources and their limitations in providing demanded information because no library or resource centre of the world is self-sufficient to meet the various information needs of the users. For this purpose, the study suggests the model for particular pharmaceutical science academic institutes’ library consortium.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115693370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Health science librarians play a vital role in supporting EBM through searching, organising, evaluating, reviewing and offering evidence to the doctors at the time of patient care. But health science librarian are not fully trained to search, evaluate, review and critically appraise the research papers, so formal training is required to undertake literature searches, critically analysing and conducting systematic reviews. This study is carried out in PGIMER library to sought out whether and how health science librarian's roles have been changing to support EBM and what obstacles are coming on their way to provide the service. As EBM is new concept in Indian medical libraries, all PGIMER library professionals are fully enthusiast to take up this responsibility. They all feel the need of cultivating new skills and knowledge to use tools for this practice. Majority of participants even did not know to use basic searching tools. Proper training focused on EBM tools, skills, medical terminology, biostatistics, research methodology, and review of literature needs to be provided to the health science librarians so that they can accept EBM services with full fervour and zeal. This will further establish their profile at par with other professionals.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115738483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
