The very purpose of this data is to convert information into knowledge; then only, the stored data come into use by its users. Here, the role of librarians is to know how to convert and process data in the order of knowledge creation. It means the librarians should get expertise in how to make big data sets more meaningful in using by its users. Due to the emergence of data in a very big way, the users’ requirements also increase; therefore, they can choose different ways to access the data in search of required information. In this paper, we discussed the availability of data in different formats and how this data is relevant and applicable to big-data technology. Ganai","doi":"10.5958/0975-6922.2017.00023.7","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5958/0975-6922.2017.00023.7","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of the study has been to make an assessment of the usage of a selected set of Indexing & Abstracting (I&A) databases with an objective to work out the similarity or difference in use of I&A databases across the selected states of north India. An effort has also been made to see whether the users use a single or a combination of I&A databases. The investigator made a personal survey of seven sampled universities for collecting data about the questions under investigation, and questionnaire was used as a data-collection tool. The investigator also availed of the telephonic and e-mail communication and had a face-to-face interaction with respondents to collect prompt response, substantiate the responses and remove ambiguities thereof. Statistical package for social science was used to make analysis of the data on empirical basis. Chi Squared (χ2) Test has been used to derive association between the variables and test the level of significance. Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International, followed by International Information System for the Agricultural Sciences and Technology, proves to be the leading I&A database across all the surveyed states and universities. However, there is a slight but statistically significant interstate difference in the use of different I&A databases under study. The authors have investigated through a survey based on a structured questionnaire. Data were collected from fifty-three libraries of management colleges using a structured questionnaire in and around Bangalore city. The components of total quality management (TQM) covered in this study are leadership, policy and strategy, staff management, team work, training and development strategy, resources, as well as processes. One-sample ‘t’ test and one-way ANOVA were used to find out the differences between different types of management institutions in their TQM. Results revealed that on the whole the application of TQM was well maintained in the management libraries of Bangalore. TQM application analysis revealed that the policy and strategy component ranked first, followed by resources, team work, staff management, processes, leadership, and the least application of TQM was found for training and development strategy with rank seven. LAMs are a place where the precious information resources such as books, manuscripts, documents, knowledge, objects and artefacts are preserved and stored for future use in order to facilitate learning and scholarship. This paper is the result of an attempt to study the visitors' perception on the resources and services of Puducherry museum - a repository of an exclusive collection of relics and artefacts that belong to the Pallava and Chola dynasties. A total of 130 visitors were considered for the study. The result shows that people of various language backgrounds such as French, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Urdu, Assamese, French, American and Canadian visited the museum. Web 2.0 facilitates users to modify, contribute and create their own identities in innovative ways. It is like a social phenomenon that not just connects people together, but generates and contributes to the web contents itself. The present study focuses on the awareness level and the usage of Web 2.0 tools among the library and information science (LIS) professionals working in the engineering colleges of Odisha state. The result of the study reveals that most of the LIS professionals are knowledgeable about computer and Information Technology (IT), and majority of the professionals have used it for the last 5–10 years. The present study provides an overview about the level of awareness and usage of electronic library resources by faculty members of selected management colleges of Ludhiana district. The structured questionnaire method was used to elicit data from the 87 faculty members of the five colleges. The results revealed that the majority of the faculty members are aware of electronic information resources and their usage. It is also observed that 100% faculty members agreed that e-resources are of utmost importance to perform their academic obligations.
