A comprehensive questionnaire to elicit responses on a wide range of issues was circulated among 700 pharmacy faculty members, out of which 545 faculty members responded by submitting filled-in questionnaires and the overall response rate is 78%. The result of the study reveals that the faculty members of the pharmacy department are heavily using the reprographic and borrowing facility compared with other services. The pharmacy faculty members are mainly collecting and seeking information for the purposes of setting up the question papers and exams-related work and also for writing and publishing books and articles compared with other purposes. They highly depend on library catalogues for getting relevant references for their requirements compared with other bibliographical sources. The faculty members are placing more importance on books for their teaching than for research. Periodicals, abstracting and indexing periodicals and theses/dissertations are of importance for their research than their teaching.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"251 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117288784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study attempts to highlight the efficiency of research scholars of different faculties of the University of Jammu in accessing information resources using various strategies like search engines, consortia, Boolean operators, phrases, truncation of terms, online databases and so on. It also discusses in detail the impact of technological changes on research scholars and their awareness about the various search strategies to access information sources more efficiently and effectively. An attempt has been made at the end to provide suggestions to improve information accessing skills and the role of library professionals in improving users’ skills to access relevant information in a proper way.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114399056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quantitative research methodology, using cross-sectional survey design was used. The population of the study consists of all academic librarians in the university libraries in Nigeria. Questionnaire was the only instrument used to collect relevant data for the study. The findings show that the level of adoption of the library 2.0 among the university libraries in Nigeria was very low. The article also found that perception of the librarians towards the use of library 2.0 was positive. The findings further established that all the library 2.0 tools are personally accepted, used and applied by individual library practitioners for information service delivery, though not officially implemented by most of the university libraries. In general, the study found that the library practitioners had positive perception towards acceptance of the following library 2.0 tools; Blog, ‘Wikis, Instant Messaging’, Twitter, Face book, RSS, YouTube, Podcast, Flickr, Vodcast, etc. The article concludes that the university libraries and library practitioners had varying degree of acceptance of library 2.0 applications for implementation in their libraries. However, the article recommends that university libraries should create and established workshops, seminars and training on the application of library 2.0 to all librarians and practitioners in order to have more awareness and readiness about the use of library 2.0 for its implementation in the university libraries for information service delivery.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116125107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
