This article explores adaptation of different searching techniques and methods by the university teachers for intelligent information retrieval from the different e-resources. From the statistical analysis, it has been confirmed that amongst the various search criteria's, ‘just entering of keywords in simple search box’(mean value 4.01) is the frequently used search criteria for accessing information by the university teachers and the coefficient of skewness is-1.13 which indicates that the frequency distribution is negatively skewed. While looking at designation, use of searching criteria by the university teachers, it is found that Professors (46.66%) frequently used the Information retrieval techniques higher than their subordinates. Regarding gender-wise use of searching options, it is proved from the analysis that male teachers (40.70%) frequently used the Information retrieval techniques than occasional use by female teachers. In case of faculty-wise analysis, it is observed that Sciences (46.96%) faculty frequently used the information retrieval technique greater as compared with occasional use by other remaining two faculties. In addition, it is proved from the statistical analysis that ‘Search for articles using Google’ (mean value 3.87) is the frequently used method to access e-journals on Internet and the coefficient of skewness is-0.79 which indicates that the frequency distribution is negatively skewed.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125489895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Libraries are one of the best institutions for promoting the sustainable development of a democratic society. Amongst all, public libraries have major share of responsibility in the socio-economic development of a region. The present study elaborates various efforts taken up by the libraries and library associations to improve the quality of life by providing information access to the society.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"22 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127562249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though good attempts were made in Tihar jail at the time when Mrs. Kiran Bedi was the Inspector General of the jail during 1993–1995, a branch of Delhi Public Library was opened in the jail and prisoners were provided library services. Since then, no big developments are seen except that sporadic efforts in Gujarat state. A total of 2738 articles related to Stellar Physics published in journals in English language during the study period are retrieved. Data are analysed with respect to year-wise growth of articles, relative growth rate and doubling time of literature. The 2738 articles are scattered in 188 journals. A list of ranked journals was prepared and it was found that the Astrophysical Journal with 895 articles is the most productive journal publishing Stellar Physics literature followed by Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society with 507 articles and Astronomy and Astrophysics with 380 articles. In this study, theoretical aspects of Bradford's Law of Scattering are tested and found that the data do not fit to the present sample. The Leimkuhler model is tested and found to fit the data for the Bradford Multiplier (k) at 11.65. The Bradford law is also tested through graphical formulation by drawing the Bradford bibliograph and is found to confirm all the three characteristics.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"141 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127330256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After an extensive fiction review, a questionnaire based on critical TQM factors affecting library services was designed and forwarded to around 78 engineering institutes libraries affiliated to MDU (Maharshi Dayanand University), Rohtak and 58 engineering institutes libraries affiliated to KUK (Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra) in the state of Haryana, India. Statistical analysis indicates that critical parameters like management commitment, leadership, financial and human resources are not given sufficient attention in engineering college libraries in the state of Haryana. Thus, a firm requirement, that is to create a proper blend of effective communication, proper training and wide awareness of TQM perspective among staff as well as management, has been proposed. The study will help in facilitating engineering college libraries to understand their functions and responsibilities in leading the attempt to bring continual quality improvements through TQM.","PeriodicalId":433348,"journal":{"name":"Pearl: A Journal of Library and Information Science","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131703767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
