Although the concept of fault diagnosis has been discussed in previous studies, fault diagnosis of sugar industry is not investigated yet. To fill this gap, this study is carried out in three main phases as follows. Firstly, the general faults of industries are developed from the previous literature. Secondly, the developed faults are investigated with regard to their availability in sugar industry. Finally, a FAHP model is applied to prioritise the faults of sugar industry. According to the results, old technology, improper financing, poor research and development and lack of creativity and innovation are four main faults of sugar industry, respectively. Some managerial implications are suggested to deal with these faults and improve the performance of this industry.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43948451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A SWOT analysis of the Ghanaian cashew industry was also carried out and the comparative advantage of the industry estimated, using the domestic resource cost ratio concept. The results of the value chain analysis revealed that farmers earn more on the marketing channel with no retailer/wholesaler. Similarly, the end-users (exporters) also get produce at lower cost. Producer's share in end-users Ghana cedis for a channel involving retailer/wholesaler (Channel III) was 62.3% against 64.3% for channels without retailer/wholesaler (Channels I and II). The result of domestic resource cost ratio (DRCR) was less than unity in both cashew production and trade, indicating a greater comparative advantage for the cashew industry.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48745061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines chain processes of cassava processes and identifies value along the chain with gendered perspective. The study was conducted in Southwest, Nigeria and choice was done systematically to select 250 cassava growers. Data were analysed by means of factor analysis and Poisson model. Results showed that most cassava male growers traded cassava in garden-fresh form exclusive of value, while female growers transformed cassava from its garden-fresh form and thus adding value along the chain for income increase. Female cassava farmers recognise that there are markets when cassava is transformed from its garden-fresh form. Consequently, it is essential to encourage suitable processing technologies for cassava products and effective contact to marketing information. Women need to be motivated to effectively use these resources. The study discovered that the advantages of women's partaking in agricultural value chains are defined by their power over valuable resources and their strength in household level rulings. This strategy could be a means to pro-poor gendered route out of poverty in many Nigerian homes.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43667256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two types of farmers were surveyed: members of dairy cooperatives (DCs) and members of private organisations (POs) representing the two key marketing channels. Descriptive statistics were used to identify the socio-economic characteristics of farmers, and a binary probit regression model was used to examine the factors influencing farmers' decision regarding the choice of marketing channels. The study revealed that dairy farming experience, the number of years of membership in the milk collecting centres (MCCs), distance to the MCCs, milk price, payment period, access to market information, advisory service, credit service and farm input service had positive influence whereas marketing experience had negative influence on the choice of selling to the DCs. The recommendations are presented.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVCM.2019.099102","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42207400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data used for this study was culled from the 6th Round of Ghana Living Standard Survey - GLSS 6. Descriptive statistics, analyses of variance, logit, censored and truncated regressions were employed for data analyses. The extent of commercialisation was estimated to be 57% for smallholder rice farmers. However, those who sold their harvested rice through market trader outlets reported a higher extent of commercialisation (58%) compared to farmers who sold through non-market trader outlets (50%). Farmer characteristics, household characteristics, farm characteristics and institutional or policy factors significantly influenced the probability of marketparticipation and degree of commercialisation behaviour in Ghana. It is recommended that rice commercialisation policies should focus on creating the environment to improve the buying activities of market traders.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVCM.2019.099104","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43170725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to explore how 3DP enables supply chain customer-centricity through value co-creation by the analysis of a case study, the manufacture of an innovative 3D printed component in the aerospace sector. The research highlights that: 1) the usage of 3DP enables the adoption of an external customer-centric supply chain orientation drawing on four sources of value co-creation; 2) value co-creation network based on 3DP requires a particular form of collaboration and coordination, bringing specific benefits for all the partners involved. A conceptual framework, leading to propositions, is developed identifying the elements of a customer-centric supply chain based on the principles of co-creation. Finally, theoretical and managerial implications and future research directions are outlined.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1504/IJVCM.2019.099097","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49144719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Realising the importance of the matter, this study aims at identifying and prioritising the risks associated with supply chain disruption as faced by Indian manufacturing sector. A two-phase methodology is used for achieving the objectives - the first phase involves the identification and finalisation of supply chain disruption risks through literature review and expert opinion using Delphi technique, and the second phase involves deriving the interrelationships between the risk factors and classification based on the influence and dependence power by using interpretive structural modelling (ISM) and MICMAC methodology. Environmental risk factors and supplier risk factors have become the strong drivers of other supply chain uncertainties. The outcomes of the study would help managers and governmental departments in analysing and taking actions to cope with supply chain disruptions.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66823613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the t-test revealed that marketing fruits through the cooperative networks yields numerous benefits to the cooperatives and its member farmers including increased bargaining power, improved fruit quality, decrease production and post-harvest costs, and better access to market information and high-value markets. The results also revealed that expertise in fruit management is essential in the fruit supply chain. Experience in fruit management can reduce the problem of business uncertainty, lack of flexibility, and difficulties in the negotiating process. Furthermore, knowledge of product quality and fruit distribution is important for the reduction of fruit waste, handling and transporting in the supply chain. Finally, the results also showed that the dyadic relationship and negotiation, and good practice of payment under the bi-cooperative create more trust which leads to a better exchange of market information, business continuation, and stability of the network than the multi-cooperative network. These results have implications for the management of the fruit supply chain in Thailand by assisting the farmers to access higher-value markets through cooperative networks.","PeriodicalId":43149,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Value Chain Management","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66823617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
