This paper examines 278 third-year students’ alcohol use and how it affects their academic performance, specifically looking at the grade point average (GPA). An online survey was given out to male and female students the third-year students of Stamford international university in RAMA 9 Campus. Survey questions focused on how much a particular student drank on average and tax policy of the government that affects student’s alcohol consumption. Many university students consume a lot of alcohol drinking, especially distilled spirits include gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, and tequila. Whiskey and vodka are known as spirit, vodkas are inherited with inferior goods ( 1). Using quarterly data for the U.S. economy, we first highlight the weak instrument problem by showing that the use of conventional instruments tends to overestimate the share of rule-of-thumb consumers. To address this weak instrument problem, we propose a new instrument for endogenous disposable income growth in the consumption function, namely, the Greenbook forecast of real disposable income growth. We show that this instrument encompasses the information contained in the conventional set of instruments, and is a superior predictor of income growth. We find that using our proposed instrument ameliorates the weak instrument problem and provides a much smaller estimate for the rule-of-thumb consumers. We also extend our empirical framework to allow for habit persistence and provide an estimate for this important parameter of the consumption function. Finally, we use a time-varying specification of consumption function that allows for endogenous regressors, and document a decline in the share of rule-of-thumb consumers and a rise in the habit- persistence parameter in the U.S. over our sample period. Wróblewska","doi":"10.5604/00441600.1240392","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5604/00441600.1240392","url":null,"abstract":"In view of the fact that fruit and vegetables market is an important segment of food sector, this article presents the results of research on preferences of Warsaw residents in terms of fruit and vegetable products from the group of convenience food, including the knowledge and popularity of this type of products, evaluation of views and attitudes to this form of nutrition, the reasons for purchase and the declared purchase frequency. The studied consumers had different perception of this food category and their interest in it was not excessive. Especially age and social status were the variables differentiating the factors for choosing this type of food. Other determinants of the choice were taste, freshness, aroma, colour and quality. The rise in popularity of convenience food products, including fruit and vegetables, will be largely dependent on the proper promotional activities. These measures should aim not only at informing consumers about new products, but emphasise forming positive opinions on this type of food in the first place, and adjusting the offer to the structure of the needs of different purchasing groups. It plays a key role in socio-economic, cultural development of the society to achieve sustainable development. According to the tourism statistics of Thailand, 32.59 million tourists have been arrived in the year of 2016 and contributed to the country’s economy. Nevertheless, tourism sector induces affirmative and negative impacts. This study was aimed to identify the positive factors which encourages to visit Koh Larn Beach. A total of 50 tourists were randomly selected as study respondents. Survey was conducted by using questionnaire. The results of the study revealed and evidenced that the visitors take into consider the following factors such as good transportation, duration of time to reach the destination and knowledge about the destination prior to travel certain destinations. However, the selection of destination point based on accommodation, food, safety, convenience, recreation, pleasant climate, beautiful beaches and other basic facilities available at the desired destination points. However, economic theory predicts that well-being derives from consumption, not income. Using newly available US micro-level panel data, we show that consumption has much larger effects on life satisfaction than does income. We find no evidence for life satisfaction satiating in consumption. We also show that spending on conspicuous consumption, such as clothing and vacations, affects life satisfaction more than does spending on non-conspicuous consumption. We show that private information on the patient's part creates a conflict between the healer and gatekeeper roles: if a patient reports subjective symptoms indicating a need for sick leave, the physician is unable to tell if the patient is truly sick or a shirker. We show that even if most physicians prefer to be good gatekeepers, all of them may trust their patients in Nash equilibrium. {"title":"금융소외자의 다중채무현황에 따른 대출결정행동과 부채보유 특성 및 금융서비스 요구사항에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Loan Decision Behavior and Debt Retention Characteristics and Financial Service Demands According to the Current State of Multiple Debt of Financially Excluded Households)","authors":"Min Jeung Kim, Eun Mi Kim, Minjoo Gwak","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.3085256","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.3085256","url":null,"abstract":"본 연구는 금융소외자의 대출결정행동과 부채보유 특성 및 금융서비스 요구사항을 살펴보고, 더 나아가 다중채무현황에 따라 대출결정행동과 부채보유 특성 및 금융서비스 요구사항이 어떠한 차이를 보이는지 파악하여 금융소외자의 금융생활 안정을 도모하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울복지재단에서 2014년 8월 1일부터 9월 15일까지 희망플러스통장과 꿈나래통장 가입자를 대상으로 조사한 설문조사 자료를 이용하였으며, 응답자들 중 부채를 보유하고 있는 627명(62.4%)을 최종 분석에 이용하였다. 분석대상자들 중 대출받은 이용기관이 1개인 집단은 347명(55.3%), 2개인 집단은 187명(29.8%), 3개 이상인 집단은 93명(14.8%)이었다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 금융소외자의 90% 이상이 금융교육을 받은 경험이 있다고 응답하였으며, 대출검색수단으로서 조사대상자의 약 1/4정도가 관공서를 통해 정보를 얻는다고 하였다. 이를 볼 때 금융소외자를 대상으로 하는 금융교육의 질적 향상을 위해 교육 및 실무 전문가들은 관공서 등과의 협력이 요구된다. 둘째, 첫 번째 이용한 금융기관이 시중은행(1금융권)인 금융소외자가 2개 이상의 금융기관에서 재대출을 한 비중은 13.8%였으나, 카드회사나 보험회사, 상호금융기관 등 제2금융권에서 1차 대출을 받은 금융소외자의 경우에는 20% 내외가 첫 번째 금융기관 이외에 2곳 이상의 금융기관에서 추가대출을 받은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 금융소외자 중 제1금융권에서 소외당하는 경우 추가 대출을 시도할 가능성이 크며 그럴 경우 계속해서 고금리가 적용되는 제2금융권에 남아있을 가능성이 크다는 점을 시사하고 있다. 셋째, 3개의 금융기관에서 대출을 받은 금융소외자의 경우 1~2개 기관에서 대출을 받은 금융소외자에 비해 PC 인터넷이나 모바일 등을 통해 정보를 탐색하는 비중이 높았고, 신속하게 대출을 받을 수 있다는 이유로 해당 금융기관을 선택한 비중도 더 높았다. 또한 고금리 채무가 총부채에서 차지하는 비중도 3개의 금융기관에서 대출을 받은 금융소외자 집단에서 상대적으로 더 높은 비중을 보였으며, 주된 대출목적은 주거목적자금이나 생활자금이었다. 넷째, 3개의 금융기관에서 대출을 받은 금융소외자는 단기연체나 채무불이행 경험 비중이 다른 금융소외자에 비해 더 많았고 채권추심경험도 더 많은 결과를 볼 때 다중채무 금융소외자가 부채상환을 잘 이행할 수 있는 방법을 강구할 필요가 있다.","PeriodicalId":431230,"journal":{"name":"ERN: Consumption","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126679908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early studies investigated the optimality of piecemeal first-best policy in controlled sectors when distortions exist elsewhere. The applied welfare economics approach of Arnold Harberger and its embodiment in cost–benefit analysis incorporated second-best analysis into the evaluation of public programs. Modern second-best analysis emphasizes policy-making in a distorted economy where distortions reflect either constraints on government policy instruments or features of the economic environment such as limited government information. This is illustrated using optimal commodity and income taxation and its refinements to intertemporal and uncertain settings. This study evaluates the impact of consumer perceptions of advisors' financial designations/credentials on rate of compensation to the FSP when controlling for consumer age, income, and investable assets. It further evaluates the impact of consumer perceptions of advisors' financial designations/credentials on consumers' perceived value received when controlling for consumer age, income, and investable assets. Using data from Advisor Impact's 2014 \"Economics of Loyalty Research\" survey, this study finds that consumers who value designations, as well as those with higher incomes and investable assets, pay advisors more than those who do not. The study also finds that consumers in older age groups tend to pay less to their advisors than the youngest age group, possibly indicating less of a need for financial advice. As a potential explanation for why those who value designations tend to pay more to their FSPs, the results regarding the perception of value received suggest that consumers who value designations also perceive greater value in return for the fees paid to their FSP.
