Health status is an important factor that has a significant impact on the quality of life of an elderly population. Objectives: To find out the pattern of chronic morbidities and to explore the coping skills among the Geriatric Population. Methodology: The study was Explanatory Mixed Methods study design, where a quantitative phase (Survey) followed by the qualitative phase (In depth interviews [IDI]) is used. A total of 450 patients aged 60 and above from the coastal villages were studied and analysed. Socio Demographic details, Morbidity Patten and the treatment taken. Results: For the 5 item General Health Questionnaire among the 254 Young old 92 (36.2%) were positive and among the 216 Older/Oldest population about 88 (40.7%) were positive which is statistically significant (p value 0.0224) comparing the two age categories Regarding Alzheimer’s disease – 8 item questionnaire positive there is statistically very significant (p value 0.0003) difference among the Young old 44 (17.6%) and for Older/Oldest population about 64 (29.6%).Conclusion: Hence it is prudent to screen the elderly population for these General health, Alzheimer’s diseases spread knowledge, awareness and self-care advice to them among the fisherman community though their food pattern and physical activity is on positive note. Cholelithiasis is a major risk factor for most of the gallbladder diseases. Gallbladder is one of the most common organs where the incidental carcinoma is commonly reported in published literature. This study was intended to evaluate the histopathological spectrum of gallbladder lesions and to assess the utility of histopathological examination of cholecystectomy specimens to diagnose the incidental carcinoma. Materials and Methods: This observational and descriptive study was carried out on a total 400 cholecystectomy specimens by conventional histopathological methods. Results: Cholecystectomy specimens comprised of 4.70% all surgical pathology specimens. The mean age of patients was 41.84 ± 13.74 years. A striking female preponderance (F: M = 3.49:1) was noted. Most cases were associated with gallstones (83.5%). Non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions comprised 97.5%, and 2.5% respectively. Chronic cholecystitis was the most frequent pathology (67.5%). Adenocarcinoma was observed in 2.25% cases and 88.89% of all malignant lesions were reported as an incidental finding. Conclusion: Gallstones are consistently observed in both neoplastic as well as non-neoplastic lesions of gallbladder. Many premalignant and malignant lesions may masquerade as chronic cholecystitis; both on clinical and radiological parameters and so, histopathology proves to be a gold standard tool for the correct diagnosis. This study affirms the importance of routine histopathological examination of each and every cholecystectomy specimen; as incidental detection of gallbladder carcinoma is very high.\u0000Key words: Histopathology, Cholecystectomy, Gallstones, Cholecystitis, Adenocarcinoma","PeriodicalId":430295,"journal":{"name":"BJKines National Journal of Basic & Applied Sciences","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115123864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following IVTA injections of different doses, patients were observed for changes in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central foveal thickness (CFT) on optical coherence tomography (OCT), intraocular pressure (IOP) and cataract occurrence/ progression in all three groups at 1 week , 4 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Results: Following IVTA injection in all three groups (1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg), mean BCVA improvedfrom baseline but no statistically significant difference was observed in mean BCVA at different follow ups betweenthe three groups. Mean CFT significantly improved from baseline in all threegroups but no statistically significant difference was observed at different follow ups between groups. MeanIOP increasedfrom baseline in all three groupsbut no statistically significant difference was observed among groups at different follow ups. Anti glaucoma treatment was required at end of 16 weeks postoperatively in 0, 1 and 3 eyes receiving 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg IVTA respectively. Lenticular changes at the end of 16 weeks postoperatively were found in 0, 1 and 2 eyes with 1 mg, 2 mg and 4 mg IVTA respectively.Conclusion: 4 mg dose of IVTA improves the functional and anatomical outcome in macular edema of vascular origin in most patients followed by 2 mg dose. 1 mg and 2 mg dose of IVTA has less incidence of steroid induced elevation of IOP and lenticular opacity development or progression. Further large scale studies are recommended to compare the effectiveness and safety of different doses of IVTA. Material & Methods: A comparative study was conducted among 200 women including 100 women in spontaneous labour group and 100 women in induced labour group. Maternal and fetal outcomes like antenatal complications, duration of labour, mode of delivery, indication for caesarean delivery, maternal complications, meconium staining of liquor, birth weight, APGAR score and NICU admissions were studied. Results: Mean maternal age was similar among both study groups. Majority of patients in both groups had gestational age between 39 to 40 weeks. Antenatal complications like PROM, oligohydroamnios etc. were more prevalent in induced women. Caesarean section rate was significantly high among the induced group in both nulliparous and multiparous women as compared to spontaneous labour group. Most common indication of caesarean section was fetal distress in both groups. Birth weights of babies were similar in the study groups. Induction was not found to affect meconium staining of liquor and APGAR score of babies and NICU admission rates. Conclusion: Although induction of labour increases the odds of caesarean section, it has no adverse effects on mother or baby. Pre-retinal haemorrhage caused by sudden rise in venous pressure was first termed as Valsalva haemorrhage by Duane TD in 1972. It is caused by rupture of superficial retinal capillaries due to increased intra-ocular venous pressure following increase in intra-thoracic or intraabdominal pressure. It resolves in few weeks or month and vision returns to normal depending on the location of the bleed on the retina. Observation, Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) laser and Argon laser hyaloidotomy, vitrectomy are effective treatment options for eyes with Valsalva retinopathy. Here we present a case of a 32 year old female with Valsalva retinopathy with subhyaloid haemorrhageafter an episode of vomiting who was treated with Nd:YAG laser hyaloidotomy with a good visual outcome.The novelty of this case report lies in the fact that although conservative management is practiced more often with similar prognosis, early intervention by Nd:YAG laser hyaloidotomycan benefit the patient with marked improvement and rapid recovery. The overall incidence of Skin adnexal tumours (SATs) is low in Indian population. In some cases, the diagnosis of adnexal neoplasms poses unique difficulties due to complex nomenclature, and expression of one or more lines of appendageal differentiation in the same lesion. The study was aimed to evaluate the histopathological spectrum of skin appendageal tumours and to correlate SATs with various demographic and clinical data. Material and Methods: This observational and descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on a total 55 skin biopsies diagnosed as SATs over a period of 2 years. Results: Peak age incidence of SATs was observed in the 5 th decade with marginal female preponderance (M: F = 1:1.11). The most commonly affected site was head and neck region (69%); followed by extremities (27%) and trunk (4%). Out of total 55 cases of SATs, 50 cases (90.91%) were benign tumours and 05 cases (9.09%) were malignant tumours. The sweat gland tumours constituted the largest group (43.64%); followed by hair follicle tumours (36.36%) and sebaceous gland tumours (20%). Amongst all SATs, nodular hidradenoma was the commonest benign tumour (16.36%) and sebaceous cell carcinoma (7.27%) was the most common malignant tumour.
