The index finger differs from other hand digits for its tendon structure and higher mobility capabilities. The relation between the EMG signal and movement of the index finger is a key to understanding how the finger performs the tasks such as grasping and postures. Signals are measured from two different muscle groups and classified by grasping and positions. Finite State Machine (FSM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are used for classification. Also the study indicates the effects of signals from index finger motions on a myoelectric controlled prosthetic hand.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130990198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Having gait measurements of a custom designed image based measurement system as a reference, motion measurement performance of RBFN is compared with the performance of analytical methods on basis of knee angle measurements. Accuracy of knee angle estimations of RBFN is observed to be better than the accuracy of analytical methods using only accelerometers, other one using combination of accelerometer and gyroscope and another one called virtual sensor method. One advantage over analytical methods that RBFN offers is the possibility of decreasing number of sensors required to estimate knee angle. Even in case of single accelerometer attached on shank where lowest performance in knee angle estimation is observed, accuracy of RBFN is higher than the one analytical methods provide. From results of experiments, it is found that gyroscopes affects performance more than accelerometers do in knee angles estimation of RBFN.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121801154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, the similarities between walks with the prosthesis and the normal gaits were examined morphologically. The finite state control of the prosthesis with pneumatic cylinder was developed under the basis of number of phases on the gait provided by direct measurement system. Associated gait phases and walking speeds were obtained from gyroscope signal and its derivatives, in a normalization algorithm. Stance and swing phase controlled prosthesis walking is the best control scenario for semi active-knee prosthesis with pneumatic cylinder than three phase and five phase control. In order to examine the performance of the prosthesis, the knee angle in degree has been considered as a comparison criterion. Associated performance tests were conducted both with image based motion measurement system and direct type motion measurement system.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115658680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing communication systems's speed are too low, also devices couldn't move because, they working with electricity and have big massive. In this paper we have developed alternative communication method that the system uses cold stimulus for transfer characters through skin and also first tests have been done. We used peltiers for exist to cold stimuli and developed a computer based control system to transfer to peltiers via coding. We saw that subjects perceived two stimulus per second at one point of their forearms. But when we used more than one stimulus for coding characters, perception percent get low. Overall of results, we prove that communication with thermal way is alternative method that gives promise.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128801158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It makes use of a chemical agent sensitive to a specific wavelength of light and corresponding laser exposure. In our study, the effect of PDT with low concentration (5 μg/ml) indocyanine green (ICG) on the neuroblastoma cell lines (SH-SY5Y) was investigated. The cell lines (n = 7) were incubated for 24 hours after the administration of ther ICG. PDT was achieved with continuous wave laser irradiation (λ = 809 nm, 100 mW/cm2) for a dose of 60 J/cm2. An infrared thermocouple sensor was focused in one of the wells for thermal monitoring. Temperature increase was not observed in any group during the treatment. Cell viability was measured by XTT assay. Laser, ICG and ICG-PDT groups showed a statistically significant decrease in cell viability. The cell viability decrease in ICG-PDT group was determined as approximately 83% in comparison to the control group (p<;0.01). ICG-PDT treatment has cytotoxic effects on neuroblastoma cell lines. Further research on this subject should focus on determining the ideal ICG concentrations and laser parameters.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122941763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A rapid nondestructive sensing technique will be very useful to monitor and manage different working steps in horticultural production, at harvest as well as in pre-harvest and postharvest processing. Due to fast response, the influence of different external factors like geographical site, weather and soil conditions, nutrition status, and alike can be assessed early-on during plant development and the producer may take appropriate measures at an earlier date than conventional. External properties such as shape, color, size, firmness, and alike are indicators of internal properties, such as soluble solids content, acidity, vitamin content, sugar content, water content, and alike. Evaluating data obtained from preliminary laboratory studies by using a spectrophotometer, a prototype manually portable device which measures in 400 to 1100 nm wavelength range was developed. Thanks to LED light sources, thermal damage to the tested fruit tissue is prevented. Users can easily control the device and are able to monitor measurements with appropriate hardware and firmware interface. In addition, with measurement transmitted to a computer using Bluetooth technology, processing and assessment of data is easily managed.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123361433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to extract photoplethysmographic signals, two orthogonal vectors of RGB (Red Green Blue) color space are used. We used a dual tree complex wavelet transform based denoising algorithm to reduce artifacts (e.g. artificial lighting, movement, etc.). Most of the previous work on skin color based HR estimation performed experiments with healthy volunteers and focused to solve motion artifacts. In addition to healthy volunteers we performed experiments with child patients in pediatric intensive care units. In order to investigate the possible factors that affect the non-contact HR monitoring in a clinical environment, we studied the relation between hemoglobin levels and HR estimation errors. Low hemoglobin causes underestimation of HR. Nevertheless, based on our results, it was concluded that our method could provide acceptable accuracy to estimate mean HR of patients in a clinical environment, especially given that the measurements can be performed remotely.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116496088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
