In prosthesis applications, it is important to maintain high levels of comfort and safety for the user. To achieve this objective stiffness of the damper utilized in prosthetics should be adjusted according to the gait phase and gait speed. In this study, to determine the necessary MR cylinder stiffness level, gait data of different users on different gait speeds were recorded. After determining the stiffness level of the prosthesis on different speeds, a Finite State Control algorithm was implemented for an above-knee proteshesis and the performance of this method was evaluated. Finally, performances of controlled and uncontrolled prostheses were compared to each other.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"1119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122936142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The degradation on the surface properties of the implant materials varies according to the type of implant, usage area and the movement of this area. Studies have been conducted for these implant materials to be more biocompatible with the biological tissues as well as improving their surface properties. Improving the surface characteristics of the implant materials very important. In this work, changes in corrosion behaviour on grade 5-Ti6Al4V alloy and TiN-coated alloys by reactive magnetron sputtering were investigated in Ringer's solution at 37C with use of Wenking M Lab100 test instrument. The electrochemical behavior of coated and uncoated Ti6Al4V alloys as a function of surface characteristics was determined after potentiodynamic polarization. The results demonstrated that TiN coated Ti6Al4V alloy was more corrosion resistant than uncoated Ti6Al4.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131464185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, in order to improve the effectiveness of ABC algorithm, some modifications are done. New method is called MABC algorithm. Both methods are applied on various real life data sets such as IRIS, WINE, PIMA, BUPA, ECG and results are compared. Those datasets are obtained from UCI Machine Learning Repository and MITBIH ECG database. In addition to it, validity indices and effects of some control parameters such as MCN, Limit are examined. It is observed that, selected features have significiant effect on classification success rate of classifier. If there is high overlap between the classes, success rate of classifier decreases. However observed results indicate that ABC algorithm can successfully be used for classification of multi dimensional datasets. By means of SCTR control parameter, MABC algorithm based classifier provides higher classification success rates versus ABC algorithm, independent from Limit and MCN values.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122563107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ELSSS spectra in the 450-750 nm wavelength regions were obtained from the total of 299 tissue samples from 27 patients. The ELSSS spectral data were compared against the “gold standard” histopathology results. Data analysis was done using principal components analysis, followed by linear discriminant analysis. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was calculated for diagnostic performance. Classification based on the discriminant score provided a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 95.2%, in differentiating benign from malign surgical margins of prostate tissues, and the area under the ROC curve of 0.98. In this study, it was shown that ELSSS system can accurately distinguish benign and malign surgical margins of prostate tissues with high sensitivity and specificity. In our study, diagnostic accuracy showed that the applicability of in-vivo fiber optic tissue classification.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122165727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The RSNA of the left kidney was fixed at its normal steady state value while allowing RSNA in the right kidney to change normally in response to the decreased sodium intake. The results demonstrated that the kidney with intact RSNA excreted less sodium than the RSNA fixed kidney. In this study, the effect of an increased RSNA on kidney functions during a long-term decrease in sodium intake is analyzed by using the same mathematical model. There is no difference between blood flows, afferent and efferent arteriolar resistances, renal vascular resistances, glomerular hydrostatic pressures, glomerular filtration rates, afferent arteriolar pressures, myogenic responses, release of nitric oxide, filtered sodium in the intact and the fixed-RSNA kidneys during sodium restriction. However, it is seen that proximal tubule sodium reabsorption and renin secretion from the intact kidney is more than the fixed-RSNA kidney. Thus, the reason why the intact kidney excretes less sodium than the fixed-RSNA kidney is that sodium reabsorption from the intact kidney is more than the other one.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130363323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Begin with; Si wafer is chosen as its availability is easy and well-established structures can be obtained in the surface modification without any interference. In the first step, Si wafers were cleaned and modification of surfaces was carried out with amino acid conjugated self-assembled molecules [Histidine-Self Assembled Molecule (His-SAM), and Leucine-Self Assembled Molecule (Leu-SAM)], (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) and also poly-L-ornithine (PLO). The characterization of these samples were analyzed with contact angle measurements, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and ellipsometry. After characterization results were acquired, the cell culture studies were performed with L929 cells. In order to obtain information about cell proliferation, MTT assay (a colorimetric assay) was performed. According to these results, enhanced cell proliferation was achieved by the contribution of surface functional groups. Consequently, it has been observed that these controlled molecular structures on the surfaces of materials have a great potential for biomedical applications.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129794851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, color-naming latency on threat-related words will be expected in athletes of combat sports on the Stroop task compared to athletes of non-combat sports; in other words, it is expected that there will be increased interference effect of threat-relevant stimuli on the Stroop task. In this context, participants will be shown neutral and threat-relevant stimuli randomly, and it will be investigated that whether the P300 wave of EEG show differences in response to threat-related words. After EEG data analysis, which were collected from four participants, it is found that ERP responses within the 280-400 ms time window, the amplitude of the total area of threat-related words is larger than neutral words for the group who are active in combat sports.","PeriodicalId":428610,"journal":{"name":"2014 18th National Biomedical Engineering Meeting","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124394135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
