This change also reverts to the competencies that, from the university level, are expected to be developed by students. In this research a pedagogical experience of promoting academic literacy is reported, and carried out at the Abat Oliba CEU University during the 2017-2018 academic year in the framework of a project of innovation and improvement of teaching quality. It consists of the creation of a student’s journal “Letras de Batalla: debate academico actual”: the motivations and objectives of the project, its methodology and implementation phases, are described. Finally, it the relationship between expected results and results obtained at the end of the edition of the first issue is detailed, published online and with its own ISSN. Thus, the journal allows us to verify that, through the production of academic articles, students improve their reading skills and naturally assume these literacy practices while also increasing their abilities to understand and engage with the world around them and master the skills necessary for integration into society.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-16"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study shows important changes in its conceptualization in the last decades. This article reflects on what reading is and how literary reading is related to comprehension. To account for that, some theoretical definitions present in the field are reviewed. This will allow us to put together a map of the different conceptions of this practice. The first work was written by the Jain Prince Ilango Adigal towards the second century AD, and it is inspired by the splendid surroundings of Southern India. The second work was written by the Spanish poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer in 1861, and it tells the love story of two young people in the city of Toledo. The function of the jewels and their visual design in Las ajorcas de oro are studied as a comparative semiotic analysis of ornamental samples.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-13"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The phrase is so resounding, so visual and so powerful that it has been used as a slogan or claim for book fairs, bookstores, publishers and marketers of all kinds. There are countless times that it has rolled through social networks, adding to that endless collection of evocative sayings and quotes that seek to move and have someone be moved. There is not even complete assurance that Bacon actually pronounced the phrase at some point, and it certainly does not seem that he left it in writing. However, I have to admit that I like it, probably because it establishes a fairly direct connection with the act of eating and, in turn, with the feeling of hunger and, at the same time, with the different ways we have to satiate it. I recognize myself in it, in short, because I too, throughout my reading life, have tried books, I have compulsively devoured them or I have savored and enjoyed them as if they were the last delicacy that I had to eat.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With this aim, the writing of Gustavo Adolfo Becquer is first contextualized within its historical time: From 1854, when Becquer, like many other students with intellectual aspirations, moved to Madrid, until the arrival of the Glorious Revolution and subsequent Sexenio Democratico. These historical facts create the cultural environment and the social effervescence that made possible the writing of the Rhymes and Legends. This is also the time period in which the “capital awareness” is developed around the city of Madrid; as well as the period in which Krausist professors of the Central University of Madrid —such as Sanz, Salmeron, Giner or Castro— together with the agitation of the bourgeoisie draw a political line which clearly differs from that of Becquer mentored by Gonzalez Bravo. This paper ends with an explanation of the legend entitled “El Miserere”, which is examined interwoven in the ideological coordinates of Spanish Romanticism, such as the image of Adam’s Dream, the ideology of music in Spanish Romanticism and finally, the way in which —due to aesthetical reasons— this artistic movement reframes our past to then build upon it different present.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After a qualitative investigation into the opinion of a small group of child psychiatrists and psychologists regarding the contribution of reading to the grief process inherent to migration, in the light of their responses, the children’s book Passaro que voa was analyzed. This title was chosen based on two criteria: being a recent publication in Portugal and being available in public libraries local to the area where the study took place — and, therefore, being available to the regional population free of charge and in an equal manner. Almost all of the themes identified by the professionals as relevant to the migrant child — such as identity issues, respect for differences, social exclusion, losses, longing, grief, and hope — are present in this literary work. We believe that this and other similar books, by approaching disruptive topics and validating feelings of loss, fear, and unfamiliarity — may contribute to the creation of a more empathetic and truly intercultural society.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-15"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182244","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The uncertainty is shown in the plot of the story as a kind of antagonist that places the main character in a state of alert in the face of life. Juan Jose Arreola uses the arrangement of his text in a symbolic way, reflecting at the same time the distinctive traits of his writing. Despite the evident distance between the fields involved, the uncertainty principle in Economics proves adequate in this discussion since it enables an interpretation that, rather than contradicting previous interpretations, enriches their contribution. The principle derived from Economics (Nieto de Alba, 1989) will be, then, transferred into literary analysis following the guidelines suggested by the narrative metaphor (Garayalde, 2018). Thus, the uncertainty state, besides being the plot trigger, works as a positive catalyst when making decisions.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182550","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kafka. No solo el autor lo considero especialmente relevante, a juzgar por las veces que lo publico, sino que condensa ejemplarmente su estrategia narrativa, pues muchos de sus rasgos se reflejan de nuevo por extenso en la novela donde se inscribe, El proceso. Las circunstancias de su gestacion y la radicalidad de su planteamiento lo situan en una tesitura de caracter teologico, frente a otros enfoques interpretativos de perfil mas sociologico o antropologico. Esta hipotesis queda reforzada cuando surgen sin dificultad paralelismos con otros relatos biblicos. Ademas, las propias opiniones del autor, en quien vida y literatura aparecen tan inexorablemente unidas, apuntan mas bien a una problematizacion de la existencia en su conjunto, y no concretamente a alguno de sus aspectos, de ahi la angustia y la incertidumbre que envuelve tanto al protagonista de sus escritos como al lector, que en vano desea encontrar una ultima pieza que de sentido al conjunto. EnglishThis article analyses the structureand the meaning of the short story “Beforethe Law” by F. Kafka. It was not only veryimportant for him, judging by how manytimes he published it, but it also condenseshis narrative strategy: many of its featuresare reflected widely in the novel where itis inscribed, The Trial. The circumstances ofits gestation and the radical nature of hisapproach give it a theological character,compared to other more sociological oranthropological approaches. This hypothesisis reinforced when parallels with otherbiblical stories are easily found. Furthermore,the author’s own opinions, in whomlife and literature appear so inexorablylinked, point rather to a problematizationof existence as a whole, and not specificallyto any of its aspects, hence the anguish anduncertainty that surrounds both the protagonistof his writings as well as the reader,who in vain wants to find a last piecethat gives meaning to the whole.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"1-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

En efecto, aunque ninguno de estos dos autores parece haber pisado tierra espanola ambos incorporaron en sus guias para viajeros por Espana informacion detallada y precisa, facilitada por esos visitantes ilustrados de la generacion precedente. Prueba de ello es el cumulo de datos que Volkmann debe a las Travels through Spain de John Talbot Dillon. Volkmann y Baedeker saben como seleccionar y divulgar lo que el publico lector y los visitantes potenciales de su propia generacion mas valorarian del legado de esos escritores ilustrados. Tambien saben como anadir material de su propia cosecha cuando estiman que seria del gusto de sus lectores. Asi, basandose unicamente en descripciones geograficas de La Vera, a menudo hacen valoraciones y emiten juicios sobre sus paisajes y entorno que responden mucho mas a los gustos que han traido el movimiento literario del Sturm und Drang y las tendencias romanticas y prerromanticas que a los principios esteticos y al credo estetico de la Ilustracion. EnglishJohann Jacob Volkmann’s Neueste Reisen durch Spanien and Karl Baedeker’s Spanienund Portugal paradoxically give credence to the relevance of the information provided bythe travel writers of the previous generation. They visited the Monastery of Yuste, moved bytheir interest in the place of the Emperor’s retreat. As a matter of fact, although neither ofthese two authors seems to have set foot on Spanish soil they both incorporated detailedinformation provided by enlightened visitors of the previous generation into their travelguides for Spain’s visitors. The amount of data that Volkmann drew from John Talbot Dillon’sTravels through Spain is a telling example of this. Volkmann and Baedeker both knew how toselect and disseminate what a reading audience and potential visitors of their own generationwould most appreciate from the legacy of those enlightened writers. They also knew how toadd things of their own making when they deemed them to be to the liking of their readers.Thus, basing themselves merely on geographic descriptions of La Vera, they often made assessmentsabout its landscapes that were much more in keeping with the new tastes broughtabout by the Sturm und Drung and the pre- and romantic trends than with the aesthetic ofthe Enlightenment.","PeriodicalId":42424,"journal":{"name":"Alabe-Revista de Investigacion sobre Lectura y Escritura","volume":"12 1","pages":"10"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67182473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
