It is a new variable for the mobile channel and can be simply derived from the wrapped phase or from the quadrature components. The absolute phase offers extra information about the channel, fostering new techniques for channel characterization and location estimation. However, the absolute phase has not been used in mobile communications. In this paper, the absolute phase is introduced including its mathematical definition and two different formulations. The mean of the absolute phase is derived for the mobile channel with directional scattering, including isotropic scattering as a special case. Accurate channel estimate and noise variance estimate are thus desirable to improve receiver performance. In this paper we investigate the performance of the denoise channel estimator and the approximate linear minimum mean square error (A-LMMSE) channel estimator with channel power delay profile (PDP) mismatch and noise variance estimation errors for a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system. A windowed DFT-based noise variance estimator is also presented in this paper to improve A-LMMSE channel estimation as well as to facilitate the MMSE-FDE design. Autonomic Load Balancing (ALB) is considered as an important function of self-organization for LTE RAN. A novel distributed method to achieve ALB for LTE RAN, AFWBM (Autonomic Flowing Water Balancing Method), is presented, which works by AFWBM module. The eNBs with AFWBM modules can detect their load conditions depending on self-monitoring actions. When overload conditions are detected, eNBs can adjust their HOM (handover hysteresis margin) and trigger handover behaviors of users automatically to balance load. Grassmannian line packing (GLP) codebook is widely used in industry and literature. Traditional GLP codebook can only show good performance in spatial uncorrelated channel. But the practical channel is with varied spatial characteristic. In order to design one codebook robustly adapted to arbitrary statistic channel, a novel codebook constructed through unitary rotation of Grassmannian Line Packing (GLP) codebook is proposed in this paper. The rotation enables some codewords belong to Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) codebook, meanwhile keeps the GLP property unchanged locally. By means of time interleaving it is possible to provide time diversity and improve the robustness of the transmitted information in mobile environments. DVB-T2 implements a highly flexible time interleaving that allows different trade-offs in terms of time diversity, latency and power saving. DVB-T2 also includes the possibility to particularize the transmission parameters on a service basis by means of multiple physical layer pipes. This way, it is possible to accommodate different use cases: fixed, portable and mobile, in the same frequency channel. This paper evaluates the time interleaving capabilities of DVB-T2 by means of physical layer simulations. Whether or not the secondary users can sense the spectrum during the secondary communication is an attractive problem. In this paper, we consider a particular wireless cooperative communication system acting as a secondary system, and demonstrate that by exploiting the cooperative property of the cooperative communication, the secondary system dose sensing while communicating. Compared with the conventional periodical sensing scheme, the proposed method achieves better sensing performance without any overhead. The theoretical analysis is given, and the sensing performance of the secondary system is investigated. Transmission is slotted into transmit resource units (RU). The qualities of the transmission channels from the BS to the UEs differ between RUs and between UEs. The transmit rate can be chosen by the BS independently in each RU based on the per UE channel qualities, which are assumed to be known by the BS. For each UE we calculate the throughput as the mean information received per RU over all RUs within a scheduling unit. Here, the multicast throughput is defined as the minimum UE throughput. We present a scheme to optimize the rate selections for all RUs such that the minimum UE throughput is maximized, even in the general case that the channel qualities of UEs are non-identically distributed. However, fairness among multiple users is not guaranteed in slow fading channel because time and frequency resource are always occupied by the user with largest signal to interference and noise ratio(SINR). Opportunistic beamforming using dumb antennas is a multiple antennas transmit technique to increase the fluctuation rate and dynamic range of effective channel coefficients in slow fading environment. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the fairness of maximum C/I scheduler with the technique of dumb antennas. The theoretical analysis of users' scheduling probability shows that the fairness of maximum C/I scheduler can be greatly improved by dumb antennas in slow fading channels without significant loss in cell spectrum efficiency. The engineering issues of its application in the downlink transmission of 3GPP LTE system are discussed.
