In comparison to satellite based location finding system, DTV signals have higher field strength, wider bandwidth, lower frequency band, and DTV transmission towers are pervasively available everywhere. They can be used for indoor and mobile location finding in major cities where satellite based system might not function well. The ATSC receiver can obtain the multiple transmitter impulse responses and signal arrival times using the embedded RF watermark (RFWM) signal, and then derives its geographic coordinates based on the position of ATSC transmitters. As a critical step of this process, the transmitter identification in mobile environment has significant impact on the overall accuracy of location finding. In this paper, we present extensive analytical and simulation results to demonstrate the performance of RFWM technology over mobile channels.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123737524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

That is, we propose the intuitive algorithm named range-aware broadcasting (RAB), the collisions minimized optimal path selection algorithm (CM-Opt), SNR-guaranteed optimal path selection algorithm (SNRG-Opt), low-complexity SNR-guaranteed path selection algorithm (Low-SNRG), and distributed algorithms to reduce the number of collisions and/or reduce the complexity. We show that Low-SNRG has same performance as SNRG-Opt. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed algorithms reduce the number of collision significantly. Also, it is shown that Low-SNRG has almost same average number of collisions as CM-Opt in spite of its low complexity. Also, the distributed path selection algorithm has similar performance to the non-distributed algorithms.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123675741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We address the topic of pilot aided multi-user channel estimation for a proposed wireless system that uses OFDM in a synchronous SDMA environment, which can also be regarded as a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) environment. Unlike most multi-user channel estimation methods in the literature, the EM method does not assume that the number of utilized subcarriers is equal to the OFDM FFT size. Also, a matrix based channel interpolation method is described for Time-Varying (TV) channels: Windowed DFT Interpolation. Simulation results show that performance of our methods equal that of current technologies, but the computational complexity is significantly reduced.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122007334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the complexity of the optimal joint decoder in the multicell uplink channel grows exponentially with the number of users, making it prohibitive to implement in practice. In this direction, this paper investigates the uplink capacity performance of multicell joint linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) filtering, followed by single-user decoding. The considered cellular multiple-access channel model assumes both Rayleigh and Rician flat fading, path loss, distributed users and correlated multiple antennas at the base station side. The case of Rayleigh fading is tackled using a free probability approach, while the case of Rician fading is addressed through a deterministic equivalent calculated using non-linear programming techniques. In this context, it is shown that LMMSE can provide high spectral efficiencies in practical macrocellular scenarios.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122675911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on interference classification techniques, we propose a novel centralized inter-cell power allocation algorithm which computes the minimum power budget required in each cell to meet its local quality of service (QoS) constraints. Both analytical and numerical results applied to cellular networks show how our algorithm permits to notably reduce both power budget and harmful effects of in-band inter-cell interference, while meeting QoS constraints of users in each cell.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125349328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design criteria for CM preserving precoder are presented and uplink precoder is designed accordingly. By sharing MCS (modulation and coding scheme) and/or HARQ (hybrid automatic repeat request) among codewords, downlink control signal sharing reduces the control signal overhead at the expense of performance degradation, which motivates this paper. The proposed MIMO layer shifting on a per SC-FDMA (single-carrier frequency division multiple access) symbol basis eliminates the discrepancy of channel quality among codewords, and thus improves the performance in the presence of MCS and/or HARQ sharing. Simulation results show that layer shifting is beneficial to both minimum mean square error (MMSE) and successive interference cancellation (SIC) receivers.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126475281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach of considering the outage probability of PU as quality of service (QoS) constraint, while using the maximization function of secondary user throughput is used in this paper. A generalized regional model is suggested, while using Binary Power Control (BPC) as an example case. The results conclude that under these conditions the cognitive radio relay network (CRRN), where SUs communicate through a cognitive radio base station (CRBS), with three regions (N=3) and three thresholds provides better performance, in terms of more active SUs and outage probability of SUs.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129429427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Main objective is to maximize the utility of each secondary user (SU) making them more energy efficient. Quality of Service (QoS) levels of SUs are guaranteed by max-min fair signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) concept while maintaining QoS level of the primary user (PU), thus resulting in reliable operation by reducing the sum interference. Further, the applicability of the proposed novel pricing scheme and the algorithm is discussed with respect to a heterogeneous network with proper power and rate controlling. By reducing the sum power of SUs we explore the survival of cognitive users in a lowered interference threshold imposed by the primary network. The existence and uniqueness of Nash equilibrium and its Pareto efficiency is discussed. A novel power and rate control algorithm with a new pricing scheme is introduced to reach the Nash Equilibrium (NE). By using a common platform for rates and utilities, existing algorithms are compared through numerical analysis.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129548680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We evaluate the effective relay throughput as a function of the source transmission rate and the network outage probability. Assuming channel side information (CSI) only available at the receivers, we formulate the cluster size optimization to maximize throughput. Furthermore, since the bottleneck of the multi-hop relaying is at the first hop where there is in general a lack of cooperation from the source, for the scenario where CSI is available at the source, we may incorporate opportunistic relay selection at the first hop in the cluster optimization problem. Our results demonstrate how the optimal selection of cluster sizes can significantly increase the relaying throughput.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124965551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The coexistence between SUs and PUs addresses the interference from SUs to PUs, whereas, the coexistence among SUs addresses sharing of identified spectrum opportunity among SUs to achieve efficient spectrum usage. In this study, we first introduce a new parameter named as quality of coexistence (QoC), which is defined as the ratio of quality of SU transmission over the negative interference to PUs. Assuming that a time slot of spectrum opportunity has been found by multiple SUs, we partition this time slot into subslots and allocate time slots and transmit power to multiple SUs to maximize the QoC. This leads to a \"wise\" spectrum usage among SUs and minimized interference to PUs. In this study we assume that the SUs have multiple antennas and employ fixed transmit power control (fixed-TPC). By using the approximation of the approximation to the distribution of weighted sum of chi-square random variable (RV) we develop the analytical model for the time slot allocation among SUs. Results show that both the time slot and transmit power allocation can be optimized for achieving the maximum QoC. In a particular scenario the QoC can be increased by 30%.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130545900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
