The operating point of the spectrum sensing is specified by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve which is a fundamental spectrum sensing behavior that relates its false alarm and missed detection probabilities. Our objective is to maximize the ergodic capacity of the secondary service in the presence of inaccurate spectrum sensing. We formulate an optimization problem to obtain the optimal transmission power strategy and ROC operating point of the spectrum sensing. Constraints of the considered optimization problem include the secondary service maximum transmission power as well as the maximum primary service collision probability. Two iterative sub-optimal schemes are then proposed to find the solutions of the optimization problem. Numerical results show that both proposed schemes quickly converge after a few iterations. Moreover, it is observed that the proposed schemes significantly outperform other conventional approaches.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117121446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the sources are located close to the antenna array, these methods are no longer valid. In this paper, a new method is presented for the joint range and DOA estimation for multiple near-field sources. The proposed method proceeds in two steps. In the first step, we construct the Toeplitz matrix using only the second-order statistics and employ rank revealing QR factorization (RRQR) to estimate the DOA. In the second step, we reconstruct the Toeplitz matrix from the collection data only which is equivalent to first-order statistics and employ the RRQR to estimate the range. Compared with existing schemes, the proposed schemes provide several advantages. First, the computation of RRQR for Toeplitz matrix require O(n2) whereas the existing schemes requiring eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) or singular value decomposition (SVD) for an cross spectral matrix. However using SVD or EVD require much more computational complexity O(n3). Second, the proposed method is more suitable for high speed communication since it requires second or first order statistics and a single snapshot. However, the existing method involves multidimensional research or high order statistics which increase the complexity and computational load further. Third, the proposed method does not require any pair matching for the range and DOA for multiple sources. The simulation results verify that the proposed method provide good performance with less computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"71 23","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120808222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the 3GPP RAN WG1 meeting, the demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) was defined to support channel estimation and data demodulation for up to eight transmission layers. A hybrid code division multiplexing (CDM) and frequency division multiplexing (FDM) scheme was adopted as a DM-RS multiplexing scheme. The time-domain orthogonal cover code (OCC) is used for CDM since time domain orthogonality among OCCs is relatively robust against channel variation. However, in a medium-to-high mobility environment, orthogonality distortion occurs among OCCs, which results in performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional (2D) OCC that achieves two-dimensional orthogonality in the time and frequency domains to improve the performance of CDM-based DM-RSs while reducing the peak transmit power of each OFDM symbol where CDM-based DM-RS are mapped. Simulation results show that the 2D OCC is effective in improving the block error rate performance especially in a medium-to-high mobility environment. Furthermore, it is shown that the proposed 2D OCC effectively reduces the peak transmit power compared to the time-domain OCC.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"67 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120907651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Available IEEE 802.15.4 models make their own assumptions of the standard within a given scenario. Such assumptions (and interpretations) do not really match the performance of real equipment (motes) sometimes. Here we propose a model based on one of the most utilized WSN platforms: micaZ. Its operation and timings are described as well so that they can be used for posterior modeling if other scenarios need to be studied. The throughput upper bound of peer-to-peer micaZ-TinyOS links is provided based both on our model and real measurements for the full payload range. The proposed model is compared to both real measurements and a model based on the standard. Results show our model to be accurate and better matching reality for any payload.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121255559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This concept already demonstrated a significant performance benefit over conventional approaches by on-the-fly header decoding and deciphering for the data plane of the LTE protocol stack layer 2 in downlink direction. With a low-level hardware implementation we prove that also from an architectural point of view the sDMA controller is suitable for LTE terminals. Compared to conventional hardware acceleration, chip area and energy consumption are reduced by 10% and 56%, respectively. Furthermore, we show that the header decoding has the highest architectural impact on the sDMA controller. By a change of the hardware/software partitioning within the header decoding unit, the chip area of the sDMA controller is decreased by 35%, while it consumes 39% less power. The improvement compared to the conventional approach (with the same modification) is then even increased to 17% (area) and 59% (energy).","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121312427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contrary to previous works, we also consider how the gateway discovery protocol affects user data flows that are routed to the infrastructure network. The cases of both delay-tolerant and delay-constrained user traffic are studied. We propose two schemes targeted at reliable, efficient and timely dissemination of gateway advertisement messages that are suitable for each of the aforementioned traffic types. By means of a thorough and realistic simulation study, we compare our approaches with different configurations of the only multi-hop solution focused on VANET that we found in the literature. Results corroborate that each of our approaches is appropriate for a given traffic type, and that both outperform previous work.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127289435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The femtocell is low-cost, low-power and can be realized by deploying a femto-base-station connected to the core network via a wired-backhaul. Since the femtocell reuses the macrocell spectrum, co-channel interference between femtocell and macrocell should be taken into consideration first of all. The leakage of femtocell's pilot power to the outside of a residence would cause passing users' handover events and result in increasing load to the network. In this paper, firstly we put forward a simple method for the femtocell to gain recognition of the residence and network environment, and then according to the obtained knowledge the femtocell carries out self-cofiguration and self-optimization for the purpose of achieving an optimized coverage to improve the in door Quality of Service (QoS) and minimum the interference in the existing network. To implement that we bring up a low-cost multi-element antenna solution and a series of corresponding algorithms, which is mainly based on low-complexity shaped beam forming and power adjusting. The simulation results show that the approaches proposed in the paper greatly reduce the femtocell's interference to the macrocell and optimize indoor coverage at the same time. These results can provide guidelines for the deployment of femtocell.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125677161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this problem each car has a small size state information message that should be received by its neighborhood within a short lifetime of L timeslots. Because of the safety nature of the application, communication reliability (success probability) and delay are of critical importance. In a repetition-based MAC scheme, each car retransmits its safety message w times in a time frame of L timeslots. Based on the proposed opportunistic network coding in this paper, given the local feedback information and already heard messages, each node tries to find the best message combining strategy such that the number of nodes that can instantly decode an uncoded packet is maximized. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the random linear network coding as well as the uncoded case in terms of message loss probability. Also it results in lower average message reception delay compared to random linear network coding.","PeriodicalId":417714,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 72nd Vehicular Technology Conference - Fall","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125683799","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
