It is useful to investigate the performance of different schemes in terms of accuracy and efficiency since these schemes are frequently used in various science applications. In this work, comparisons of the explicit Euler’s, implicit Euler’s, Crank-Nicolson, semi-implicit Euler’s, linearly stabilized splitting, and non-linearly stabilized splitting schemes are presented. The continuous problem has the conservation of mass and the decrease of the total energy. We check the same properties hold for the discrete problem.","PeriodicalId":41717,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics","volume":"57 1","pages":"197-207"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89688860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our quartic approximation method has a smaller error than previous quartic approximation methods due to the alternation of the error function of our quartic approximation. All quantities are normalized to obtain geometrically similar solutions in the static equilibrium condition. Analytic solutions are expressed in closed form. The solution for the air or liquid-filled tube section is derived systematically as an extreme case of the air and liquidfilled tube section. The validity of these solutions is confirmed by comparing to previous study, and some results are shown for the characteristic parameters and shapes of air and/or liquid-filled cases. Using the result of present study, one can estimate the shape and characteristic parameters of a tube section without numerical integrations or iterations.","PeriodicalId":41717,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics","volume":"38 1","pages":"181-195"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2013-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78170872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is assumed in the model that the per capita migration rate of each species is influenced not only by its own but also by the other one’s density, i.e. there is cross diffusion present. We show that a standard (self-diffusion) system may be either stable or unstable, a cross-diffusion response can stabilize an unstable standard system and destabilize a stable standard system. For the diffusively stable model, numerical studies show that at a critical value of the bifurcation parameter the system undergoes a Turing bifurcation and the cross migration response is an important factor that should not be ignored when pattern emerges.","PeriodicalId":41717,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics","volume":"28 1","pages":"129-138"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2013-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82030146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In early 90’s, C. Ernst and D. Sumners first used a tangle to describe a DNA-protein complex. In this model, DNA is represented by a string and protein is represented by a ball. Mu is a protein which binds to DNA at three sites and a DNA-Mu complex is called Mu-transpososome. Knowing the DNA topology within Mu-transpososome is very important to understand DNA transposition by Mu protein. In 2002, Pathania et al. determined that the DNA configuration within the Mu transpososome is three branched and five noded [12]. In 2007, Darcy et al. analyzed this by using mathematical tangle and concluded that the three branched and five noded DNA configuration is the only biologically reasonable solution [4]. In this paper, based on the result of Pathania et al. and Darcy et al., the author determines the DNA topology within the DNA-Mu complex after the whole Mu transposition process. Furthermore, a new experiment is designed which can support the Pathania et al.’s result. The result of this new experiment is predicted through mathematical knot thory.","PeriodicalId":41717,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics","volume":"1 1","pages":"87-102"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2013-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76457582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In other words, in our LB scheme the arrivals and token rates are changed according to the buffer occupancy. In telecommunication networks, the LB scheme has been used as a policing function to prevent congestion. By considering bursty and correlated properties of input traffic, the arrivals are assumed to follow a Markov-modulated Poisson process (MMPP). We derive the distribution of system state, and obtain the loss probability and the mean waiting time. The analysis is done by using the embedded Markov chain and supplementary variable method. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing/emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. At time t > 0, the plate is linearly accelerated with a velocity u = u0t in its own plane. And at the same time, plate temperature and concentration levels near the plate raised linearly with time t. The dimensionless governing equations involved in the present analysis are solved using the closed analytical method. The velocity, temperature, concentration, skin-friction, the rate or heat transfer and the rate of mass transfer are studied through graphs in terms of different physical parameters like magnetic field parameter (M), radiation parameter (R), Schmidt parameter (Sc), Soret number (So), Heat source parameter (S), Prandtl number (Pr), thermal Grashof number (Gr), mass Grashof number (Gm) and time (t).","PeriodicalId":41717,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics","volume":"17 1","pages":"257-268"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2013-04-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82109567","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
