The main objective of this research is from a case study in Belem (Para State) and adaptations of research carried out on the subject, helping to minimize the negative impact that such an undertaking may cause, due to common conflicts found between culture of the people involved and the technical language of his executioners. To do so, by collecting and analyzing data, we sought to understand how the population in receipt of an Enterprise Social Interest Housing (EHIS) of the Housing Company (COHAB) of Para, developed for an area of irregular occupation, was experiencing the project as well as their expectations about its outcome. The main contributions of this work relate to a better understanding of the negative impact on the population involved to obtain better solutions for similar ventures. These units implementation is recent, and, therefore, the researches which evaluate systemically the existing units are rare, making it difficult to orientate the interior design and the planning of future units. The present work aims to contribute to ECUs’ interior design, throughout design guidelines presentation, for planning two of these units’ fundamental environments: the nursing station and observation and the medication rooms. The work has an exploratory, qualitative and multi-method approach and it is based on the study of users’ perception and behavior. In order to do so, it was developed a literature critic review of the theme, exploratory visits to ECUs from Florianopolis proximities, as well as a study case. In this case study, the following methods were applied: Direct and Systematic Observation of Behavior, Wish Poems and Interviews. The author expects this paper to contribute to professional practice when planning these environments, in a way they might better encompass their future users’ wishes and needs. The 50th anniversary of the organization ICOMOS (founded in 1965) provided an opportunity to revise the connection of monument protection and modern principles, a duality that accompanied the last century of architecture. The general reform of monument preservation movements was triggered by the destruction of the World Wars, followed by the global identity crisis coming from the modernist city reconstructions all over Europe. Due to the ignorance of the desire for historic continuity, late-Modern architecture caused intense social criticism in several European countries. However, the special historic-cultural background of the Iberian Peninsula created a scenario of architectural trends and a development of monument protection that differed from other parts of Europe. This study investigates the history of architectural heritage preservation in Spain, analyses the parallel methodologies and interactions of Modernism and monument protection from a theoretical point of view, reflecting on the specific conditions of the country during the 20th century, giving a general view of the strong embeddedness of heritage preservation in Modernism. Considerando essa forma como um principio, portanto fundamental no que diz respeito ao ensino de arquitetura, e mais especificamente de projeto, o artigo procura estabelecer uma via de ligacao entre o trabalho de Louis I. Kahn e teorias e praticas vinculadas a reflexao sobre o ensino de projeto em arquitetura nos dias de hoje. Para tanto, busca compreender a postura adotada por Kahn – sobretudo pela percepcao do discurso do proprio arquiteto – em relacao ao fazer arquitetura, o que implica em compreender de que modo este interpreta a realidade, como define para si proprio a maneira de tratar o problema do projeto e o consequente rebatimento na sua forma de ensinar arquitetura, considerada aqui exemplar na medida em que caracteriza processo claramente delimitado e transmissivel no qual a interpretacao da arquitetura construida, como autentica segunda natureza que a historia foi gerando, encontra-se associada a valores basicos do projeto moderno, porem, ainda relevantes: humanismo, projeto social, vontade de renovacao formal e tecnologica. Otro de los conceptos utilizados por Miralles es el de “la alegoria”, en cuanto a que las figuras fisicas suplantan las ideas. En este articulo podremos ver como los dibujos de los documentos del proyecto del Pabellon de Unazuki, pueden llegar a evocar la figura humana, la estructura del antiguo puente, la geometria de la Ciudad o la geometria de la Naturaleza. Los bancos de carpas del lugar tambien los utiliza como simbolo de su proyecto, simbolo que ya lo habria aprehendido de los dibujos de peces de Garcia Lorca. En este sentido, el proyecto del Pabellon se convierte en un referente imprescindible de la forma de hacer de Miralles y de su preocupacion, no solo por el entorno fisico, si no tambien por el contexto social, historico y cultural. En cuanto a la representacion, en este proyecto de Japon, utiliza por primera vez los hilos de metal para elaborar las maquetas tridimensionales. Este ultimo material y su innovadora forma de trabajarlo le permitiria crear “dibujos en el espacio”. In order to do so, it is based on the understanding the project’s process as a creative process, which leads us to understand the action of projecting not as a mechanical action that leads to the resolution of a problem, but as a speculative process and construction of our own thinking. Thought and creation are closely related in the project process and although the architecture is objectified through building systems and materials, can only conceive by constructing thought. This requires, on the one hand, the knowledge of guidelines, rules and principles objectivable, typical of the architectural discipline, but on the other hand, it needs, like any creative act, to develop in a dialectical relationship with another type of material that is not Specific of this discipline and which is part of a personal world, the result of our experience in the world, in which the architecture project finds in most occasions the base or owe all its wealth. Both factors have the same and decisive importance in the development of the project. However, it is the most objective, rational and easily transmissible aspects that become, in most cases, the center of attention, forgetting or leaving aside that highly subjective component that it has. It is, therefore, this aspect of the architectural project that becomes object of study in the development of this article. The purpose of this project is to unveil the creative process of the architectural project, so that it allows us to know more clearly the complexity of the project and ultimately leads us to speak about issues that we consider relevant in relation to the way of proceeding to do architecture.
