Ferri, Denise Moreira","doi":"10.4013/ARQ.2019.151.01","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4013/ARQ.2019.151.01","url":null,"abstract":"In this article, the use of tactile models as a means to provide a collaborative medium between blind and visually impaired people and architects is presented to enable the development of the architectural project of an association center for blind and visually impaired people in the city of Passo Fundo, RS, Brazil. Therefore, three tactile models of the association center’s new project were built and used as tools for participatory design with blind and visually impaired people at Associacao Passofundense de Cegos (APACE). This paper describes the participation and interaction process between APACE members and designers in the development of the APACE project. All participants were able to understand the dimensions and orientations of spaces and were able to compare the proposed environments with the current venue. This ability allowed broad participation and propositional interaction, increasing self-esteem and the likelihood of increasing these users’ well-being in the projected spaces. The next research steps involve collaborative design of the furniture and interior spaces. La forma de anudamiento de la habitacion no ha permanecido estable en el tiempo y tampoco la manera de habitar la casa. La primera gran casa europea, la domus romana, anudo aquellas estancias en una continuidad abierta al cielo. Dicho continuo hacia de la casa una patria domestica inalterable y monolitica, que unia a hombres y dioses y que se creyo eterna. Tras las dos guerras mundiales que acabaron con la eternidad de la ciudad europea, una America triunfante transformo el anudamiento domestico romano en una yuxtaposicion de habitaciones que Louis Kahn apega a la tierra en la casa Adler. La casa se constituye como una continuidad fragmentada de estancias, cuyo recorrer se propone como el nuevo eden domestico de hombres y maquinas. Con la inauguracion de un nuevo milenio, Oriente nos descubre un anudamiento de contiguidad que Ryue Nishizawa despliega en la casa Moriyama. Habitar significa ahora transitar entre habitaciones, que suman al lugar como nueva habitacion. La casa se convierte en un espacio de inmediacion del hombre y su naturaleza, transformando el calendario domestico en una ciclica temporalidad. El hombre se descubre, entonces, como artista y constructor de nuevas constelaciones domesticas, que hacen de la ciudad un nuevo cosmos a la espera de ser habitado. El objetivo de este relato domestico, que salta de Europa a America y acaba en Asia, sera identificar las diferentes formas de habitar y con ellas definir las diferentes ciudades que emergen de estas tres formas de anudamiento domestico. Em conjunto com nove estudantes de arquitetura e quatro de planejamento urbano, os envolvidos partem para analisar a forma de Las Vegas por meio dos “elementos ornamentais–simbolicos” da Strip Street, uma das principais vias da cidade. A partir dessa analise, emergem dois modelos voltados para o ato de comunicar-se com os transeuntes: o tipo “Pato”, em que a construcao assume uma forma simbolica ligada a seu uso, e o tipo “Galpao decorado”, no qual a forma da edificacao encontra-se separada de sua comunicacao principal. Com os modelos definidos, os autores comparam a efetividade comunicacional da “Crawford Manor”, uma edificacao que busca originalidade com a “Guild House”, um asilo projetado por Venturi e Scott Brown que tanto se utiliza das ideias do modelo “Galpao Decorado” como as amplia, definindo diferentes camadas de comunicacao. Neste artigo, propomos uma discussao acerca da capacidade persuasiva desses modelos e das duas edificacoes citadas a partir de estrategias levantadas originalmente por Aristoteles em suas obras Retorica e Arte Poetica . Tambem abarcamos aqui uma discussao sobre as possibilidades de uso da arte retorica durante o processo projetual em arquitetura, sem direciona-la para a leitura possivel dos casos, mas para a intencao. O objetivo principal e confrontar a retorica, enquanto linguagem, com a acao projetual da arquitetura, de modo a demonstrar como o conhecimento em retorica pode auxiliar projetistas em suas escolhas e defesas, definindo previamente os publicos a serem atingidos, as conclusoes e imposicoes de experiencia que as devidas estrategias podem criar. {"title":"CAMINOS DESEADOS, CAMINOS PROYECTADOS: LAND ART Y SU CORRELACIÓN CON LA OBRA DE ARQUITECTURA E INGENIERÍA CIVIL","authors":"Mario Fernández González, José Magín Campos Cacheda","doi":"10.4013/ARQ.2019.151.05","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4013/ARQ.2019.151.05","url":null,"abstract":"La irrupcion del land art (e incluso del minimal art ) en la decada de 1960 provoca un cambio disruptivo en el mundo del arte, conjugando la nocion de entorno paisajistico, a traves de intervenciones efimeras en espacios naturales, que implican en su totalidad al espectador, de modo que experimente y se apropie de la obra de arte mediante la accion. Asi, la obra resultante se desprende del proceso y de las relaciones que se generan con el sujeto que la experimenta (algo por otra parte muy comun en las obras lineales). De esta manera, la obra artistica necesita y se nutre tanto de la accion del artista como de la participacion del espectador en un entorno natural, para convertirse mediante el proceso en obra viva, en obra habitada, que finalmente establece esas conexiones viscerales y emocionales con los lugares que ocupamos. Asi, el paisaje se entiende como lugar que configura el entorno de una obra de arte, y es el propio paisaje el que acaba integrando la obra artistica. Algunas experiencias del land art , tienen su correlacion conceptual e incluso formal con los proyectos de ingenieria civil y arquitectura. La expresion de muchas obras lineales como la carretera de acceso desde la sierra de Tramuntana a Sa Calobra o incluso el puente peatonal sobre la Ribeira da Carpinteira y su apreciacion artistica, aparecen al mirar y al apreciar el paisaje en su totalidad, teniendo en cuenta la morfologia del terreno, sus caracteristicas geologicas, geotecnicas y conjugando todo ello con aspectos proyectuales de trafico, velocidad, pendiente, etc., sabiendo que el encaje o la interseccion entre el paisaje, terreno y la obra lineal que el ingeniero y el arquitecto proyectan, produce una obra distinta a la carretera en si misma, un “camino”, definido como concepto proximo a la reflexion introspectiva de la obra del land art . On the other hand, extreme collaboration is a methodology, arising in the aerospace industry, for joint work among professionals. This article presents an experimental initiative with Architecture and Engineering students to evaluate these capabilities in building projects. This was done by means of an intensive development of a car exhibition pavilion; elaborating the design and presentation of architecture, structure, electrical installations, energy-environmental analysis, and construction budget. The work was carried out in four sessions, with an initial and final meeting; in a room with a central desk, network computers, BIM programs, and perimeter screens. Input and output questionnaires were carried out, as well as interviews with the participants, and analysis of the process with researchers and experts. The experience demonstrated high effectiveness in the production and development of the project, although with group tensions and design limitations. The collaborative work was valued primarily, suggesting the outdated programming of some specialties and coordination of the process, as well as defining mostly expected results and joint operation. Therefore, it is suggested to apply these conditions to integrate BIM modeling with collaboration between building project specialists. Schuch","doi":"10.4013/arq.2020.161.02","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4013/arq.2020.161.02","url":null,"abstract":"Sustainable urban development faces, nowadays, all sorts of challenges from mankind’s actions such as urban biodiversity conservation, promotion of healthy living and maintenance of environmental quality. Green areas offer many potentials to win these challenges because they help maintaining the hydrologic local cycle. In this context, this research studied some scenes that worked as a mark to seek the ideal percentage to a minimum green area in an allotment, in order to allow it to become sustainable, concerning its hydrologic local cycle. It is necessary to point out that some green areas, such as the permanent ones, area already mandatory by the environmental Brazilian laws. However, some situations, like allotments in urban areas, demand a percentage of green area smaller than the minimum necessary, which leads to bad consequences towards its citizens: floods, overflow, landslides, etc. So, intending to achieve its research goals, a research based on Delphi method was realized, questioning specialists about what the ideal minimum green area percentage value would be in order to have sustainable allotments. The result of its method points out that it is considered to be necessary at least 25 % of green area. After that, in order to check environmental impact from the suggested percentage in an existing allotment, that value was projected in a case study and its application impacts were quantified, either by its decreased building area or its permeable area gain. The methodology integrates three evaluation methods: the Morpho method to explore the morphological conditions that influence walkability; the method developed by Emily Talen to measure the walking distance to local services and facilities; and the People Following method, from the Space Syntax theory, which is used to assess the distance a person walks between their points of interests and the choice of routes. Results show that factors that promote walkability in the neighborhoods evaluated are net dwelling density, diversity of uses, wide size of sidewalks, frontyards, and the presence of trees and green areas. On the contrary, factors that inhibit the choice of routes are blind walls, poor quality of side walks and the absence of greening in streets. These results suggest that the choice of routes that people take to reach a destination is not defined by the shortest route, but rather by its spatial quality. The article concludes with recommendations for the urban design of neighborhoods with a greater walkable orientation, and their impact to address a positive transformation of these cities towards a more sustainable future. In looking at recent residential architecture of Cyprus, especially in real estate housing as a subset of mass housing, unfortunately, flexibility is not considered enough as a leading concept. The aim of this research is to evaluate notions and stages of flexibility in real estate housing projects in a recently developed residential context on the Salamis coastal line between the cities of Famagusta and Trikomo. The first step is flexibility assessment from an architectural perspective, through analyzing the architectural drawings of the projects to find out the potential for long term flexibility in terms of ‘structural’, ‘functional’ and ‘cultural’ notions; whereas, the second step is evaluating flexibility in three phases as ‘design’, ‘construction’ and ‘usage’ stages through questionnaire surveys with both construction companies and users. The results indicate the flexibility from the company’s perspective and defragment the inhabitants’ external and interior flexibility needs in three different stages, highlighting the role of companies and architects in designing flexible housing that can adapt to various users and their changing needs and preferences. After the independence of Algeria, in 1962, the mining activity, which had ceased to operate by a governmental decision, left behind it a huge industrial emblem. This one is today classified as a cultural and historical heritage in Bechar province. However, land and buildings left vacant by industry are located in the middle of the city of Kenadsa, where a relatively high population density is centred. This configuration suggests that both the town and its inhabitants are confronted to a serious risk of soil and air pollution. The brownfield of Kenadsa, which is situated in the entry of the town, embodies the identity as well as the history of the city. In the hope of reducing the abandoned industrial spaces, this paper proposes forms of land use planning that pave the way for the evolution of the town in question. Therefore, a historical approach that places the phenomenon in its space and time framework is adopted. This approach is followed by an impact study that is accompanied by a survey of some notabilities. Finally, this paper suggests ways to preserve cautiously the traces of an industrial past that, at the same time, poses constraints to urban planning and harms the urban landscape and the environment.
