Also in the agriculture an analysis of cost-effectiveness, measuring technological innovation and profitability becomes necessary. The ‘smart farm’ model exploits information coming from technologies like sensors, intelligent systems and the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm to understand the influential and non-influential factors while considering environmental, productive and structural data coming from a large number of sources. The goal of this work is to design and deploy practical tasks that exploit heterogeneous real datasets with the aim to forecast and reconstruct values using and comparing innovative machine learning techniques with more standard ones. The application of these methodologies, in fields that are only apparently refractory to the technology such as the agricultural one, shows that there are ample margins for innovation and investment while supporting requests and needs coming from companies that wish to employ a sustainable and optimized agricultural industrial business.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122261885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aiming to contribute towards that, the paper proposes an empirical-based analytical formula for estimating the expected damage frequencies to underground cable joints, when subjected to overheating. Empirical-based formulas for estimating the damage frequency to underground cables, subjected to earthquakes are also reported in the paper. The implementation of such models within a Decision Support System able to support resilience enhancement decision making processes is briefly illustrated in the paper.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130187655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Natural disasters and terrorist attacks remind us how dependent we are on electricity and how fragile the system can be. The paper deals with the resilience of hospitals’ electricity distribution system. In particular, a supervising platform is illustrated that can be superimposed to the main components of the power system in order to promptly collect and centralize anomalies or malfunctioning or outages. To this aim, an Internet of Things (IoT) based solution has been implemented that allows equipping at low cost the various electrical components in the distribution MV/LV substations of the hospital’s power system. The solution implements a platform based on Raspberry Pi3.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131549864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The publishing of Summer and Winter Outlook, twice per year, and of the annual Mid-term Adequacy Forecast (MAF) report provides a comprehensive information to the Member States in terms of hourly probabilistic assessment of reliability standards, e.g. Loss Of Load Expectations (LOLE), Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS). With a time horizon between mid-term resource adequacy assessments (1 to 10 years ahead) and short term resource adequacy assessments (week ahead to intraday), the seasonal outlook aims to bridge them. Since the degree of uncertainty decreases in the shorter time horizons, seasonal outlooks can improve the quality of adequacy assessment for the upcoming months compared to yearly assessments. However seasonal outlook degree of uncertainty is quite high, as for instance temperatures, wind and PV cannot be precisely forecasted in this time horizon. Hence, a probabilistic methodology is needed in order to improve seasonal outlook reliability, starting from general approaches already applied for mid-term adequacy assessments. This paper highlights potentiality and challenges of adopting a probabilistic approach in the seasonal outlook process, especially focusing on the use case of Italy.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131754053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This project proposes the implementation of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) model in the distribution network based on the integration among the power system, the control system and communication system. The VPP is obtained by clustering distributed energy resources thanks to Internet of Things technologies and Cloud systems to develop a system of aggregation, coordination and optimization of distributed energy resources able to monitor and the power absorbed by electrical users and provide dispatching/flexibility services to the electricity distributor.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125225812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a software tool is proposed to support residential microgrids designers. The user can define settings, devices and real operating conditions to achieve the structural configuration of a residential microgrid. Different Distributed Energy Resources are considered to face the demand requirements in presence of Renewables generation. The promising aspect of the proposed tool is based on the maximization of power extracted from each Distributed Energy Resource and on its suitable absorption to satisfy energetic demand. The application of Smart Converters to DER generators permits an online maximum power achievement. In addition, a proper control strategy activates management logics of energy sources and domestic loads to maximize the microgrid self-consumption.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"31 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132694318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method for automatic tuning of the controller parameters is proposed. These are here computed by solving a non-linear optimization problem with constraints both on the transient response of grid frequency and on the amount of power that can be exchanged by the control actions. Some penalty coefficients are also taken into account to favor the former or the latter regulation, in particular by considering possible different prices for the two services. Thus, the performance index to be minimized is related both to the employed energy and to its cost. It is obtained starting from a simple model of the regulators both in the continuous and in the discrete time domain. In the simulations, this latter formulation has allowed a considerable reduction of the computation time, so as to ease the analysis of a complete 2030 annual scenario for the Sardinian power system, in case of loss of a DC link pole that connects the island to the Italian mainland.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124496119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This topology is investigated in three states of two-cell DAQZSI, three-cell DAQZSI and n-cell DAQZSI. These topologies are completely analyzed and the boost factor are obtained. High value of boost factor without increasing the number of used active elements is the most important advantage of this inverter in comparison with the conventional Z-source inverter. In addition, the voltage and current equations of used capacitors, diodes and inductors are calculated. Finally, the correctness of the presented analyses is reconfirmed by using the simulation results on the two-cell DAQZSI in EMTDC/PSCAD software.","PeriodicalId":413577,"journal":{"name":"2018 AEIT International Annual Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125716455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
