Or elles comptent parmi les chefs-d’œuvre que nous a legues le xive siecle et, en plus d’offrir un divertissement litteraire, elles representent aujourd’hui pour nous d’importantes sources pour les recherches interdisciplinaires sur le discours du Moyen-Âge tardif en termes de politique, d’ethique, de morale, d’histoire des mentalites et d’histoire des emotions. The former was an exiled German-Jewish poet who had turned his back on his home country because he refused to be muzzled, and who did not seem destined to hold any established social position. The latter was a nobleman from Normandy who felt called to politics and was never too shy to throw himself into the electoral fray, although in the end he had to admit to himself that it was not his political actions but rather his theoretical works that would commend him to posterity. In December of that same year, the editors of the Journal etranger published commented excerpts from Mis Sara Sampson (1755). They pleaded for a new form of tragedy combining the legacy of the English prototypes of domestic tragedy (Lillo, Moore) and the aesthetics of “bourgeois and domestic tragedy”. The reviewer (who cannot be Diderot) does not, however, aim to break with Aristotle’s Poetics, unlike the author of Le Pere de famille. He takes sides with the emotional component, while referring to the figures of Oedipus and Orestes.Such a position made it possible for modern tragedy to return to the pathetic which, in Aristotle’s eyes, was to be elevated to the rank of essential constitutive element of the “great genre”, alongside peripeteia and anagnorisis.The article analyses this neglected and even forgotten category which is the polar opposite of the heroic mode. Ce sont surtout ses « Stories » tirees de la vie d’un avocat penaliste qui ont fait sa gloire et sa reussite commerciale. Pour certains critiques et chercheurs en litterature, elles se lisent comme des reflexions philosophico-anthropologiques sur le crime. Ce faisant, ils suivent une piste que l’auteur von Schirach a lui-meme tracee dans ses textes et paratextes. Le present article propose au contraire de lire ces traces comme faisant partie integrante d’une strategie par laquelle von Schirach s’adresse au lecteur de litterature populaire aussi bien qu’au critique professionnel. Cette strategie s’observe dans le rapport qu’entretiennent les textes avec l’image de l’auteur von Schirach, avec leur caractere seriel, ainsi que dans l’usage des citations en epigraphe. Delacroix’ “Liberty Leading the People” and its commentary by Heine in the first article he sent to Germany from Paris open up to an elitist aesthetic. There is a close bond between Delacroix’ sensual approach of the art of painting and Heine’s “pantheistic” sensibility, influenced by Saint-Simonian ideas, which the poet associated with the Berlin Hegelianism of the 1820s. Dans une deuxieme partie, la reception du meme mythe sera analysee dans des textes d’histoire des idees de la deuxieme moitie du xxe siecle (Adorno, Ernst Junger, Oskar Negt) qui anticipent de maniere le plus souvent encore implicite la lecture ecocritique de la piece de Goethe. Ce faisant, on ne prete pas attention au fait qu’il n’emploie pas encore ce terme dans son essai influent de mars 1879 Der Sieg des Judenthums uber das Germanenthums. Le neologisme apparut la premiere fois dans le nom et le programme de l’« Antisemiten-Liga » fondee en septembre 1879. On a prete encore moins d’attention au fait que c’est non Wilhelm Marr qui est a l’origine de ce parti, mais le chimiste et ingenieur berlinois Hector de Grousilliers. Marr assista a l’evenement fondateur et devint membre du parti, mais il n’y occupa aucune fonction. C’est par ailleurs Grousilliers qui, paradoxalement, avait eu le premier l’idee de fonder un « Lessing-Verein ». Par une volte-face absurde, il en resulta l’« Antisemiten-Liga ». Par une curieuse reevaluation de la Parabole de l’anneau de Lessing, Grousilliers attribua une semantique antisemite au concept de tolerance. Il developpa ce sujet plusieurs fois au sein de l’Antisemiten-Liga avant de devenir l’editeur du magazine antisemite humoristique et satirique Die Wahrheit.
