Under Sanitation, availability and maintenance of toilets, and drainage system organization demand major attention. Existing toilets are inefficient in usage of water for flush. In the context of scarce resources, it is inevitable conserving them wisely so as to facilitate them to all citizens. As water is one of the major and must utilities of a city, its conservation is highly desirable in all possible aspects. One of the aspects of saving water is its usage in toilets. Current toilets in Indian cities consume much water, thereby causing a portion of scarcity of water. It is also required to design drainage systems satisfying cities requirements, by employing Internet of Things technologies. The design of any smart city must ensure its sanitation, while adopting new smarter solutions quickly. In this paper, we present modern toilet models suitable for Indian environment, requiring less water. In addition, it is shown how to use toilet flush as fertilizer. Hence, we also present in this paper, a new Internet of Things based drainage architecture as an innovative solution to address drainage clogging.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122540044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For effective classification of hyperspectral images, feature reduction techniques through feature extraction and feature selection approaches are applied to improve the classification performance. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is the widely used feature extraction method for dimensionality reduction. In this paper, PCA and its linear variants such as segmented-PCA (SPCA) and folded-PCA (FPCA) together with nonlinear variants kernel-PCA (KPCA) and Kernel Entropy Component Analysis (KECA) have been studied to effectively extract the features for classification task. The feature selection over the new transformed features was carried out using cumulative-variance accumulation based approach except for KECA that employs Renyi entropy based feature selection. The studied methods are compared using real hyperspectral image. The experimental result shows that the classification accuracy of KPCA (95.9245%) and KECA (95.6262%) outperforms FPCA (95.1292%). However, the FPCA provides the less space complexity.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122921227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For more than a century ago, Charles Darwin depicted that subconscious mind is more powerful than conscious mind. The parasympathetic Edinger-Westphal oculomotor complex hinders the sympathetic activity and this mediates the pupil dilation or retinal reflection. It causes subconscious retinal response significantly associates with a rapid visual search or identification of images of events, a person of interest during crossover roads or watching some interesting content. To prove the concept, the authors developed a Rapid Serial Visual Image Slider (RSVIS) and record the pupillary response on a subject. Thus, the radius amplitude of dilation (in pixels) for six set of Inter-Stimulus Intervals (ISI) during RSVIS were gathered. Analyzing the radius amplitudes of pupil on different ISIs, authors found a significant pupil dilation occurred during the search of an interesting image of events, objects, and human despite the rapid image replacement.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124087134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a simple and non-ionizing method based on Pigeon Hole Imaging (PHI) for mapping subcutaneous vein patterns. In PHI, localized impedance values on multiple adjacent positions are measured placing an electrode array on the surface of a volume conductor and the conductivity distribution beneath the electrode array is obtained. In this study, the impedance measurements were simulated in an FEM based software COMSOL Multiphysics. An FEM model of a human forearm with different domains including skin, muscle, subcutaneous layer and veins was created. The conductivity of blood is higher compared to that of its surroundings which is the basis of localization of subcutaneous vein in the current study. It is shown that the proposed method can detect and map the pathways of subcutaneous veins fairly accurately using 5×5 matrix of PHI electrode array. However, the resolution of the image needs to be increased and the method needs to be evaluated in human subjects to justify its usefulness in practice.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"92 Suppl 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128007023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Webcams are used to capture the hand images followed by Morphological image processing to extract information from human hand movement. The five degrees of freedom implemented in the proposed method are rotation of base, arm like motions, elbow like motions, grip motions, and rotation of grip. The robot hand is controlled successfully using human hand movement, where the system can pick up, manipulate and move objects from one place to other with precision. The user can control the hand entirely based on his/her intentions to accomplish the required task. Our proposed real-time method of implementing human hand movement also ensures instantaneous control and performance. Distant control of the robotic hand not only ensures complete safety to human, but also allows flexibility in controlling distant objects. Overall, our proposed system can guarantee safety, flexibility and accuracy in performing sensitive tasks in day-to-day life thus offering suitability for risk prevention.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"101 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129316086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system first detects a user's location and works with different agro-ecological and agro-climatic data in upazila level to calculate similarity between upazilas using Pearson co-relation similarity algorithm. Then it selects top-n similar upazilas. Finally, utilizing the seasonal information and crop production rates of each crop of the similar upazilas, it recommends top-fc crops to a user of a upazila. The system has been evaluated with real data and we have found a reasonable and satisfactory accuracy. The system can help farmers in producing appropriate crops. As a result, they can increase their lifestyle and can contribute more to the society. Here, an Arduino based system has been developed by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology. An accelerometer will also be used that will measure the velocity and the amount of the vehicle's tilting when it will struck over something. When the velocity of the car will be more than the defined maximum velocity for the road or it tilts, a warning will be given automatically. Also, whenever an accident will take place, the GPS will locate the geographical coordinates for that particular place, and using the GSM it will send an SMS. In this paper, a worldwide accessible Cloud based automation system is presented and implemented using Raspberry Pi. The proposed system can be used in industrial sectors to reduce the waste of electric power, and providing notification in case of fault or abnormal disturbances in the industry. Moreover, the system would be useful for the handicapped people to control the electrical appliances of their home/industry without anyone's support. The proposed work includes the design and prototype implementation of a Cloud based Automation technology. This system consists of two major units: first one is the Web Server or Cloud where user can locally and remotely monitor the current status of their residential/industrial machinery and sensors. The second part is the ability to control that machinery from suitable remote location and able to give proper instructions to the system. This system is more scalable and reliable than other typical automation system. The proposed Cloud based Automation system would be an effective solution to provide a proper 24 hours monitoring and control system for industrial as well as individual customers.","PeriodicalId":411099,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (R10-HTC)","volume":"232 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116285188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
